The scenario depicted in a question and answer that appears to be a review of previous lesson or this
conversation could also be part of the Generalization where the teacher recapitulates the concepts covered for the
day through a simple recall Q&A.
APPLICATION:
1. The answer depends on the level being offered by the school. If the school caters the primary and
elementary level, then the school should produce generalists. Its is important to know the basics of every
subject so that when they move on to the higher levels, they could build upon the basics they have acquired
in the early years. If the school offers high school level, still they should produce more generalists only that
the subjects this time are more complex than that of the elementary level. In the high school level, the
leaners become more and more of a jack of all trades. Meanwhile, if the school offers college level and
vocational courses, the school should produce more specialists since expertise in a certain field is a must
upon graduating college or vocational courses.
2. For me I still agree with Spencer about promoting competition in class because it does not only motivate the
learners but also pushes them to breakthrough their own limits. But it should also be noted that this should
be in a form of a healthy competition, one that motivates each learner to perform better than their best and
develops respect and inspiration against greatest competitors rather than envy and hatred.
3. I firmly agree to these thoughts. Indeed, we can only truly aim for nation development if we exercise these values
in our daily lives. They shall not remain just a vision but these shall be accompanied by action. Through realizing
these visions of a progressed nation only can we truly say we have done our part as responsible citizens. Thus, values
development and regular practice will lead us to building a better nation.
4. Indeed, you cannot bring the learners to the world since it seems impossible to travel with them whole year round
just to impart knowledge about the world, instead, bring the world to them by constantly relating the lessons to
their daily lives and making them simulate important details and events in the world. This is then in line with John
Dewey's philosophy which is learning by doing. Practical applications and simulation are perfect examples of Dewey's
philosophy of education.
5. Yes, Philippine education is indeed equitable since it has been readily available and offered to every Filipino citizen
who wish to enrol. Recent legislations include the EFA 2015 or also known as Education for All Program. Its
objectives include to provide basic competencies to everyone to achieve functional literacy for all. Meanwhile,
another legislation called the Republic Act No. 10931 offers free education on higher levels. This is otherwise entitled
"Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act" which we now enjoy in state universities and colleges.
6. Yes it is pro-poor. For the past decades tertiary education has always been one of the greatest barriers of
education since the tuition fees are so high and there are very little scholarships availble, mostly with very high
standards to meet. This free tertiary education gives hope to the poor to go on and chase their dreams. The only
downside is that it is limited to a certain number of learners per institution.
7. The banking method is a one-way method wherein all the knowledge and effort come from the teacher. The
learner is mere receiver of knowledge. Whereas, in the critical pedagogy both teacher and learner benefit from each
other and thus give equal efforts for quality education.
