Reason: Megaspore mother cell and megaspores are both haploid.

Fertilization is essential for production of seed, but in some angiosperms, seeds develop
without fertilization. Early development of embryo from the zygote is called embryogeny.
Nutrition for development is provided by endosperm. Zygote divides mitotically to form
proembryo.

a. Give an example of an angiosperm that produces seeds without fertilization.


b. Name that process.

27. The generative cell of a 2 celled pollen divides in the pollen tube but not in a 3-celled
pollen. Give reason.

28. Explain any two devices by which autogamy are prevented in flowering plants.
29. During an excavation assignment, scientists collected pollen grains of a plant
preserved in deeper layers in soil. Analyse the properties of pollen grains which help
in the fossilization.

33. Rose plants produce large, attractive bisexual flowers but they seldom produce fruits.
On the other hand, Lady‟s finger produces plenty of fruits. Analyse the reasons for
failure of fruit formation in rose.

What are vegetative propagules? Name any four of them along with an example for
