    BRAKE (FRONT) FRONT BRAKE(for 4WD and Pre-Runner) INSPECTION

    PROCEDURE

    1.CHECK BRAKE CYLINDER AND PISTON

    a. Check the cylinder bore and piston for rust and scoring.
    If necessary, replace the disc brake cylinder assembly and front disc brake piston.

    2.CHECK PAD LINING THICKNESS

    a. Using a ruler, measure the pad lining thickness.


    Standard Thickness:
    Item Specified Condition
    except 16 inch Front
    11.5 mm (0.453 in.)
    Disc Brake (Type B)
    for 16 inch Front Disc
    11.3 mm (0.445 in.)
    Brake (Type B)

    Minimum thickness:
    1.0 mm (0.0394 in.)

    If the pad lining thickness is less than the minimum, replace the front disc brake pad.

    a. Using a micrometer, measure the disc thickness.


    Standard Thickness:
    Item Specified Condition
    for 15 inch Front Disc
    25.0 mm (0.984 in.)
    Brake
    for 16 inch Front Disc
    28.0 mm (1.102 in.)
    Brake

    Minimum Thickness:
    Item Specified Condition
    for 15 inch Front Disc
    23.0 mm (0.906 in.)
    Brake
    for 16 inch Front Disc
    26.0 mm (1.024 in.)
    Brake (Type A)
    for 16 inch Front Disc
    25.0 mm (0.984 in.)
    Brake (Type B)

    If the disc thickness is less than the minimum, replace the front disc.

    4.CHECK DISC RUNOUT

    a.

    Check the front axle hub bearing looseness (Click here Drivetrain>AXLE AND DIFFERENTIAL>FRONT AXLE
    HUB(for 4WD and Pre-Runner)>ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION) and front axle hub runout (Click here
    Drivetrain>AXLE AND DIFFERENTIAL>FRONT AXLE HUB(for 4WD and Pre-Runner)>ON-VEHICLE
    INSPECTION).

    b. Install the front disc with the 6 hub nuts.


    Torque:
    105 N*m (1071 kgf*cm, 77 ft.*lbf)

    c. Using a dial indicator, measure the disc runout 10.0 mm (0.394 in.) from the outer edge of the disc.
    Maximum disc runout:
    0.05 mm (0.00197 in.)

    NOTICE:
    Do not place the magnetic portion of the dial indicator near the axle hub or speed sensor.

    If the runout is more than the maximum, change the installation position of the disc so that runout is the
    smallest possible. If the runout is more than the maximum even when the installation position is changed,
    grind the disc. If the disc thickness is less than the minimum, replace the disc.

    d. Remove the 6 hub nuts and front disc.
