I. INTRODUCTION
Since ultra-wideband (UWB) technology have many
advantages, such as high speed data, small size, low cost,
low complexity, its outlook is getting a wide range of
attention [1]. To construct such system, many UWB
antennas have been designed and manufactured in a recent
period. Although UWB technology has many advantages, it
still has many issues because several narrowband systems
are used in UWB band, such as WLAN (5.725—5.825GHz),
WiMAX (3.3-3.69GHz) and X-band(7.9-8.25GHz). Aiming
to reduce the potential interferences between the UWB and
narrowband systems, the design of UWB antennas with (a)Top Layer
band notch is amazing. Recently, many notched UWB
antennas are reported with only single [2], dual [3] or three
[4] notch bands, making its prospect is limited. In addition,
the multipath fading and capacity embarrassment are
another urgent challenges, which can greatly affect the
performance of communication systems. A lot of methods
have been presented to reduce the influence of multipath
fading and to increase the capacity. The multiple-input
multiple-output (MIMO) is one of the most satisfactory
techniques [5]. Therefore, the research on the UWB antenna
with MIMO technology has a very broad prospect in the
modern communication system.
In this paper, a UWB-MIMO antenna with quad band-
notched characteristics is proposed based on an original
UWB antenna in [6], which is realized by using a pair of
LSSs and a pair of SRSSLRs in [7]. The proposed antenna
can not only provide four designated reject bands, but also
has a high isolation. The size of the antenna is 40×40×0.5

notch bands. The bottom layer shown in Fig. 1(b) with a
netted slot is to achieve a high isolation.
III. PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS
The VSWR & return loss of the proposed UWB-MIMO
antenna is depicted in Fig. 2, which is obtained by using
HFSS. It can be seen that the UWB-MIMO antenna covers
entire UWB band (3.1-10.6GHz) with a VSWR less than 2
or return loss less than -10 dB, and it has four rejection
bands operating at 3.1GHz-3.7GHz, 4.2GHz-4.7GHz,
5.6GHz-5.9GHz and 7.9GHz-8.3GHz. The proposed UWB-
MIMO antenna can achieve a high isolation, which is less

than -19.3dB, and in most of the UWB band is less than - Fig. 4 Radiation patterns: (a) YOZ plane, (b) XOZ plane.
20dB. General speaking, the isolation is less than -20dB
from 3.1 GHz to 12GHz except 5.4 GHz nearby. IV. CONCLUSION
A compact two-element UWB-MIMO antenna with
quad frequency rejection band characteristics has been
proposed and investigated numerically. The antenna can
provide a bandwidth of 135% for VSWR<2 except the four
notch bands. A pair of LSSs and a pair of SRSSLRs were
employed to create four band notches to reject the
narrowband signals from 3.1GHz-3.7GHz, 4.2GHz-4.7GHz,
5.6GHz-5.9GHz and 7.9GHz-8.3GHz. The further results
will be included in the presentation.
