A Semi Detailed Lesson Plan in

Fundamentals of Electricity
IAE 102
I. Objectives
At the end of a 45-minute discussion about the electrical tools and equipment, the
BTLED-IA students are expected to;
 Identify the different classification of electrical tools and equipment;
 Demonstrate proper use of electrical tools and equipment;
 Practice safety precautions in using electrical tools and equipment at all times.
II. Subject Matter/Content
A. Topic: Electrical tools and Equipment
B. Reference: Electrical Layout and Estimate, Second Edition (pages 184-188)
C. Materials:
 Laptop
 Visual Aids (PPT)
III. Procedure, Method & Strategies
A. Preparatory Activities
1. Routine Activity
a. Prayer
b. Checking attendance
c. Review
2. Motivation
Guide Question:
Imagaine working withouth a tools? Can we finish our work efficiently?
B. Presentation
Electrical task can be accomplished systematically to save time, effort, and
resources. Most of the work cannot be done using bare hands.
Common electrical tools and equipment needed in the installation of electrical wiring.
1. Screw drivers = are tools made of steel hardened and tempered at the tip used to
loosen or tighten screws with slotted heads. They come in various sizes and
shapes.
Four kinds of screw drivers
 Philips screw driver - is a screw driver that has a cross tip resembling (+)
sign. This is used to drive screws with cross slot heads.
 Standard screw driver - is the blade tip is wedge-shaped and resembles a
negative sign. This used to drive screws with a single slot heat.
 Stubby screw driver - comes in either standard or Philips screw driver with
short stank or blade and a shorted handle used to turn screws in tight
space where standard screw driver can’t be used.
 Allen screw driver - This could be in the shape of a screw driver or a
wrench. Its function is to drive screw with hexagonal slot head.
3 kinds of hammers class
 Claw hammer
 Mallet (rubber head)
 Ballpeen Hammer.
3 types of pliers
1. The long nose pliers - Long nose pliers is used for cutting and holding fine wire.
This can reach tight space or small opening pliers cannot reach and also used in
making terminal loops of copper wires
2. Combination pliers - is used for gripping, holding and cutting electrical wires and
cables and even small nails.
3. Side cutting pliers - side cutting pliers class it is used for cutting fine, medium and
big wires and cables.
Wire stripper - it is used in removing insulation of medium sized wires ranging from
gauge #10 to gauge # 16.
Portable electric drill - It is used in making holes on metal sheets and concrete walls.
 Generalization
Guide questions:
1. what are the electrical tools and equipment?
2. What tool do we use if we tighten or loosen screws?
3. How many kinds of screw drivers?
4. What tool do we use if we will hold and grip wires?
Application
Choose at least 3 tools or equipment and film yourself on how to properly use
that tools. Send your videos on our Facebook page.

IV. EVALUATION
Direction: Read the statement carefully and encircle the letter of your correct answers.
Put your answers on the space provided before the number.
_______1. This has a cross tip resembling a positive (+) sign. This is used to drive
screws with cross slot heads.
a. Standard screw driver b. Stubby screw driver c. Philip screw driver d. Allen
_______2. These are tools used for driving or pounding and pulling out nails.
a. Pliers b.Screw drivers c. Hammers d. Wire stripper
_______3. These made from metal with insulators in the handle and are used for
cutting, twisting, bending, holding and gripping wires and cables.
a. Pliers b. Hammers c. Screw drivers d. Wire striper.
_______4. This type of pliers is used for cutting fine, medium and big wires and cables.
a. Long nose pliers b. Combination pliers c. Side cutting pliers d. Wire stripper
_______5. A tool used for removing insulation of medium sized wires ranging from
gauge #10 to gauge#16
a. Long nose pliers b. Combination pliers c. Wire stripper d. side cutting pliers
II. Test 2
Enumerate the following
6-8 What are the 3 kinds of pliers
9-12 What are the 4 kinds of screw drivers
13-15 Two examples of electrical tools.
IV. Assignment
Research on the internet about Electrical materials. List 5 electrical materials and their
function.
R1 = 20 ohms
R2= 40 ohms
R3 = 80 ohms
1= 1+ 1+ 1
RT R1 R2 R3
1_ = _1_ + _1_ + _1_
RT 20 40 80
RT= 11.43 ohms
Vt = 10 = V1 10v = V2 = 10v = V3 10v
IT= VT\RT
IT= 10v \ 11.43
IT= 0.87
I1 = V1 \ R1
I1 = 10v \ 20 = 0.5A
I2 = V2 \ R2
I2 = 10v \ 40 = 0.25A
I3 = V3 \ R3
I3= 10v \ 80 = 0.125A
It = I1+ I2 + I3
IT = .5 + .25 + .125 = 0.87A
Generalization
Guide Questions:
 What is parallel circuit
 In parallel what is the constant the voltage or the current?
 In getting the total current class what is the formula?
Application
Given:
VT = 30v
R1= 2
R2 = 6
R3= 8

Find the value of the following

I1=
I2=
I3=
IT=
IV. EVALUATION
Explain the following:
1. What is parallel circuit
2. Explain rule 1 in parallel circuit
3. Explain rule 2 in parallel circuit
4. Explain rule 3 in parallel circuit
IV. Assignment
Advance Study
Browse on the internet about the electrical tools and equipment. In a long bond
paper draw at least 1 tool or equipment and then present it to the class
tomorrow.
