Guide to Professional Mechanical Engineering Application

Engr. Bren A. Tablante, PME

1. Run through the PME Write-Shop Seminar Presentation by Dr. Jeffrey Singson.

2. Run through Republic Act #8495 and its IRR. (Implementing Rules and Regulations | page 20 onwards)
a. Carefully read the following:
i. Article I, section 3.
ii. Article III, section 14.
iii. Article III, section 17.
iv. Article III, section 24.
v. Article IV, section 33.
vi. Article IV, section 34.
vii. Rule V, section 21.
viii. Rule V, section 24.

3. Prepare the following documents to be passed:

i. Affidavit of Applicant
ii. Affidavit of Competency (signed by 2 PME’s) (all copies should have dry seal)
iii. Application Form
iv. Certificate of Experience (signed by PME) (all copies should have dry seal)
v. Detailed Description of Equipment Handled
vi. Letter of Application
vii. List of Design Undertaken (signed by PME) (all copies should have dry seal)
viii. Proposed Title #1 (with abstract and table of contents)
ix. Proposed Title #2 (with abstract and table of contents)
x. Curriculum Vitae
xi. NSO Birth Certificate
xii. Original and Photocopy of Transcript of Records
xiii. NBI Clearance
xiv. Photocopy of PRC License (Registered Mechanical Engineer)
xv. Self stamped mailing envelope
NOTE 1: Check the PME – Scanned Copies folder for all my documents for your reference.
NOTE 2: Check the forms folder so you can access editable soft copies.
NOTE 3: Make sure to have at least 6 copies of the documents i to ix because all of these will be included in
the hard copy of your report (book bound)
4. Submit all documents to the PRC office and wait for their advice on the schedule of your first interview.
NOTE 1: During the first interview, everything can be asked (engineering etiquette, ME laws, thermo,
refrigeration, etc) but during my time, they delve on the experiences of each applicant. It is up to
you on how you will answer their questions.
NOTE 2: During the first interview, they will choose between your two proposed titles in which you must
deliver a report thesis in 2 months. If they think both of your proposals are easy, they will ask for
you to do both proposals. Otherwise, they will think of another topic which you can do based on
your experience/credentials. Therefore, it is wise to pick a topic that is not generally easy for them
to give you other topics and not too much hard because you are only given two months to generate
the final report.
5. After doing your final report, submit 5 copies book bound – included inside should be your report and all the
forms submitted) to PRC and wait for your 2nd interview schedule.
NOTE 1: During the 2nd interview, they will require you to do a powerpoint presentation and to discuss your
final report. The topic of your 2nd interview will solely revolve around your final report. They will
also require you to submit 5 USB’s with the report and PPT inside.
NOTE 2: They appreciate if your report focuses on the design of the equipment with heavy calculations
involved. Also, it is better if you include economics (ROI, Capitalization, cost of operation, etc) in
your report. The more calculations, the less they will ask.
NOTE 3: Immediately after the 2nd interview, you will already know if you pass the PME application or you
will need to do some revisions on your report.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Per advise of the board, no one fails the PME application. If the board deems your report is
insufficient, they will only ask you to make addendums to your report to include their suggested topics. If this will
happen, you only need to schedule another meeting with them to discuss the additional topics.
FINAL NOTE: I included the copy of my report in PDF format and my PPT for your reference. I included other reference
materials which you can use to study.
Disclaimer: This guide is only based on the engineer’s own experience during his application for PME and should be not
be treated as a definite guide. The purpose of this guide is to help fellow engineers to succeed in their endeavors. It is
therefore wise to keep this confidential and practice own’s discretion.
