Ministry of Defence (MoD) has approved setting up of 21 new
Sainik Schools, in partnership with NGOs/private schools/State
Governments. These schools will be set up in the initial round of
across the country in partnership mode. They will be distinct from

the existing Sainik Schools.
Sundari Devi Saraswati Vidya Mandir, located in Batha village of
Rosda, will soon be transformed into a Sainik School. Central
Government has decided to convert it as Sainik School.

East Champaran has been awarded as the best in the district
category and Telari in Gaya as the best panchayat in the East Zone
at the 3rd National Water Awards.

etc. and is assessed through remote sensing.

government records irrespective of the actual trees growing on such lands. RFA mainly comprises of Reserved

✓ The total forest and tree cover of the country is 80.9 million
hectare which is 24.62 percent of the geographical area of the
country.
✓ Forest Cover in India: 7,13,789 sq. km (21.71% of its geographical

area)
✓ Tree Cover in India: 95,748 sq. km (2.91% of its geographical area)
✓ Recorded Forest Area in India: 7,75,288 sq. km (23.58% of its

Geographical Area)

cover in the country followed by Arunachal Pradesh (66,431 sq. km),

✓ In terms of forest cover as percentage of total geographical area,

the top five States are Mizoram (84.53%), Arunachal Pradesh
(79.33%), Meghalaya (76.00%), Manipur (74.34%) and Nagaland
(73.90%).
✓ 17 states/UT’s have above 33 percent of the geographical area

under forest cover.
▪ Out of these states and UT’s, five states/UTs namely
Lakshadweep, Mizoram, Andaman & Nicobar Islands,
Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya have more than 75
percent forest cover
▪ while 12 states/UTs namely Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura,
Goa, Kerala, Sikkim, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh, Dadra &
Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu, Assam, Odisha, have forest
cover between 33 percent to 75 percent.
✓ Total mangrove cover in the country is 4,992 sq. km. (0.15 % of the
country's total geographical area).
✓ Top 5 States / UTs in Mangrove cover: West Bengal (2114 sq. km)
Gujarat (1175 sq. km), Andaman & Nicobar Islands (616 sq. km),
Andhra Pradesh (405 sq. km) and Maharashtra (324 sq. km)
✓ An increase of 17 sq. Km in mangrove cover has been observed as

compared to the previous assessment of 2019.
▪ Top three states showing mangrove cover increase are
