Should Human Genetic Enhancement Be Allowed?

HUMAN GENETIC ENHANCEMENT 2

For centuries, human beings have strived to make changes that can improve their natural

look and longevity. Human genetic enhancement can be described as a mechanism used by

humans to improve their natural versions' known limitations. These enhancements are in respect

to the specific time, environment, and climate changes. Notably, human genetic enhancement is

applied to improve human conditions, such as vision, strength, and memory. Its main purpose is

to advance the performance of the original body system. They are done to cure illnesses or

prevent their occurrence, improve body performance, alter the physical appearance, or enhance

physical and mental capabilities. Considering that human genetic enhancement is proving to

improve body systems' health and performance, it should be allowed to continue positively

impacting human lives.

Human genetic enhancement should be allowed because it improves human health

through gene therapy and disease prevention. Gene therapy mechanism works by implanting new

health replica genes to replace transfigured genes, which weaken immune level leading to

illnesses (Shaw & Catteruccia, 2019). The replica genes boost immunity, thus helping the body

to withstand disease-causing micro-organisms. Further, genetic enhancement helps safeguard the

body's susceptibility to diseases that result from genetic disorders by improving the immunity

level and making the body less prone to contracting other illnesses. Hence, by using gene therapy

and applying disease prevention measures, genetic enhancement assures an ideal way of

strengthening body immunity to enhance a healthy life.

Human genetic enhancement alters the physical appearance and improves human

behavior. For example, people use genetic enhancement mechanisms to achieve skin smoothness

and improve their physical beauty. The appearance is realized by modifying genes that cause

physical discomfort and sometimes lead to congenital diseases (Davis & Arnocky, 2020). As a

result, the induced genes improve the skin, thereby changing a person’s physical appearance. The

preferred physical look improves the person’s confidence and raises self-esteem, making the

person comfortable to interact with other people.

Recent research has shown that human enhancement modifies human behavior. People

who exhibit abnormal emotions that make them unable to perform effectively can use induced

genes that help to suppress the feeling by making them calm. Hence, human genetic

enhancement leads to physical beauty and boosts the body's ability to overcome some reactions

and improve functionality.

Further, human genetic enhancement helps to improve sensory organs. The mechanism is

applied to improve sensory capabilities in people beyond normal human potential. The abilities

include the advancement of the sense to recognize sound, tactile stimuli, light, and chemical

traces beyond human ability (McGann, 2015). Besides, sensory enhancement is implemented to

add a new sense in humans to perform new functions, such as echolocation, that enables people

to detect items in their surroundings by sensing echoes from those objects. Therefore, human

genetic enhancement proves to instill special potentials in humans, thus enabling them to do and

detect things that other people cannot manage to do.

Moreover, human genetic enhancement has become a way to increase the life span of

humans. Many people die from age-related illnesses such as cardiovascular and heart diseases.

Consequently, genetic enhancement has been proved to rejuvenate the body by inducing genes

that boost the body cell. Thus, instilled genes help fight age-related diseases and delay aging,

thereby offering human living prospects twice. Besides, gene enhancement technology boosts

memory to the aged and protects them from impotence. Hence, the longevity of healthy life in

humans is a notable attribute heightened by genetic enhancement.

On the contrary, despite the many benefits of human genetic enhancement, the process

has disadvantages. Since genetic technology uses a viral vector that transfers functional genes in

the human body, there are no facts about where the functional genes are being placed (Patra and

Andrew, 2015). As a result, the functional genes may even replace important genes instead of

mutated ones. Thus, this process may lead to unexpected health conditions and diseases.

Moreover, the newly released genetically engineered species would also have environmental

effects by resulting in an imbalance in that area's ecology, just like exotic species cases. Hence,

beyond focusing on the massive benefits of genetic enhancement, people should also be cautious

of repercussions that might result from applying genetic technology.

Overall, human genetic enhancement should be allowed since the technology has proved

to be an ideal way to improve body systems' health and performance. The benefits of improving

human health through gene therapy and disease prevention are paramount to enhance enjoyable

lives. Additionally, altering physical appearance, improving sensory organs, and boosting human

behaviors helps people comfortably execute their day-to-day activities. Therefore, the expertise

should be embraced and widely adopted to impact lives and enhance healthy living longevity.
