Narrator 1- Good morning, everyone, today me and my group will present a role play in
front of you all. Our theme would be about Jhansi ki Rani, Rani Lakshmi Bai. Let me
introduce the characters to you. Our second narrator would be Aarna. Rani Lakshmi Bai will
be played by Diva, King Gangadhar Rao and General Smith, both will be played by Nishant,
Hugh Rose will be Ridham, and Rani’s friend Mandra will be Shambhavi. So, let’s start by
talking about the battles fought by Rani. Rani’s real name is Manikarnika Tambe, and she
was born on November 19, 1835, and died on June 17, 1858. She was married to Raja
Gangadhar Rao at an early age of 7 years. It all started when Rani’s husband, King
Gangadhar Rao died without a son and under the British policy of Doctrine of Lapse Jhansi
was to be annexed.
*Scene 1*
King- Lakshmi, did you get to know about the new British policy? The Doctrine of Lapse. It
says that if the king dies without a son, his territory must be annexed. What are we gonna
do?
Rani- Don’t worry, we will adopt a son, maybe…
King- No, I can’t take this anymore *collapses*
Narrator 2- Under the pressure of the new policy, the king breathed his last breath on
November 22, 1853. Now, the British were after Jhansi. The first battle, fought between was
fought between Lieutenant Walker. Walker lost the battle to Rani in Jhansi. When Rani
defeated Walker, she advanced to Kalpi, where the British again lost to Rani and Sindhiya, a
friend of British and the ruler to Kalpi, fled his kingdom. Now, too, the British didn’t give up
and in front of Rani was now General Smith. Rani’s friend Mandra was now there to help
her.
*Scene 2*
Narrator 1- Like this, Rani won the second battle too. Now, Hugh Rose led the forces against
Rani. This time, Rani’s fate had no luck. A sewer came and she was blocked. She still fought
till her last breath.
*Scene 3*
Narrator 2- A great leader, who proved all the stereotypes about women being weak wrong,
now was lying in her coffin, heading to be burnt. Rani will always be a great inspiration to us
and thoughts about her would always make us proud. Long Live Jhansi ki Rani, Lakshmi Bai
Thank you!
