Berbicara adalah kemampuan dasar untuk mempelajari ilmu bahasa.
Tujuan utama belajar bahasa asing adalah untuk memiliki kemampuan
berkomunikasi menggunakan bahasa yang dipelajari tersebut, terutama bahasa
Inggris. Tetapi faktanya masih banyak dari pembelajaran bahasa Inggris ini yang
tidak dapat berbicara bahasa Inggris dengan baik, terutama murid setingkat
Sekolah Menengah Atas. Hal ini menarik untuk peneliti melakukan sebuah
penelitian di Sekolah Menengah Pertama dalam rangka memecahkan masalah
tersebut. Dalam situasi ini peneliti menggunakan teknik Round Robin untuk
mengajar speaking, karena teknik ini banyak memberikan kebaikan untuk
mengembangkan kemampuan berbicara siswa.
Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah teknik Round
Robin ini memberikan pengaruh yang siginifikan terhadap kemampuan berbicara
siswa kelas XI SMA N 1 Pecangaan pada tahun ajaran 2018/2019.
Metode penelitian ini yang digunakan adalah penelitian kuantitatif. Jenis
penelitian ini adalah penelitian experimental dengan menggunakan pre-test dan
post-test tanpa kontrol grup. Dalam memilih sampel penelitian, peneliti
menggunakan purposive sampling dan peneliti dipilihkan di kelas XI Bahasa
sebagai sampel penelitian, yang berjumlah 31 siswa.
Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan berbicara siswa
kelas XI adalah lebih baik setelah diajar melalui teknik Round Robin daripada
sebelum diajar menggunakan teknik Round Robin. Nilai rata-rata pre-test mereka
adalah 54.19, sedangkan nilai rata-rata post-test mereka adalah 76, t-obtained
14.93, dan t-table 2.042 dengan signifikan level 0.05 dan (df) 30 dari (31-1). Itu
berarti t-obtianed lebih tinggi dari t-table. Maka (H0) ditolak dan (Ha) diterima.
Berdasarkan dari hasil nilai tersebut, peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa ada
pengaruh signifikan antara kemampuan berbicara siswa kelas XI SMA N 1
Pecangaan pada tahun 2018/2019 sebelum dan sesudah diajar melalui teknik
Round Robin. Sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa teknik Round Robin efektif
untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa. Jadi, peneliti menyarankan agar
guru bahasa Inggris dapat menggunakan Round Robin sebagai salah satu teknik
alternatif dalam mengajar speaking.

Speaking is a basic skill of language. The main purpose of learning foreign
language is the ability to communicate using the language, especially English. But
in fact many English learners can’t speak English well, especially Senior High
School students. It leads the researcher interested in conducting a research in a
Senior High School in order to solve the problem. In this case the researcher uses
Round Robin technique to teach speaking, because this technique provides some
benefits to improve students’ speaking skill.
The objective of this research is to find out whether Round Robin
technique has a significant difference in students’ speaking ability of the eleventh
grade students of SMA N 1 Pecangaan in the academic year 2018/2019.
The design of this research is quantitative research. This research is an
experimental research by using pre-test and post-test without control group. In
deciding the sample of the research, the researcher used purposive random
sampling and the chosen the eleventh Bahasa class as the sample of this research,
which consists of 31 students.
The result of this research shows that the speaking ability of the eleventh
grade students after being taught through Round Robin is better than the speaking
ability of the eleventh grade students before being taught through Round Robin.
The mean of pre-test is 54.19, whereas the mean of post-test is 76, the t-obtained
(t0) is 14.93 and t-freedom (df) 30 from (31-1). It means that t–observation is
higher than t-table. So (H0) is rejected and (Ha) is accepted.
Based on the result, the researcher concludes that there is a significant
difference between the speaking ability of the eleventh grade students of SMA N
1 Pecangaan in the academic year 2018/2019 before and after being taught
through Round Robin. It can be said that Round Robin is effective in improving
the students’ speaking ability. So, the researcher suggests that the English teacher
can use Round Robin as one alternative technique in teaching speaking.
