I. Objectives
At the end of the discussion the students should be able to:
a. define fact and opinion;
b. differentiate fact and opinion; and
c. apply the two statements in understanding and distinguishing whether
those assertions are facts and opinions from various sources.

Good morning class! Good morning ma’am!

Before we start may I call someone to lead


the prayer.

B. Motivation

To open up our discussion for today, we are


going to read a poem entitled, ‘Fact or
Opinion ' by Jenny Capps. This poem is
related to our topic for today, so please pay
attention. Yes ma’am.
Are you dear students excited?

May I call someone to read the poem for the


class?
(One student will read the poem)
You can use the raise hand icon on your

A FACT is a fact, now let's take a


look Pull it up your computer, or
open up your book!

It's something that is proven,


something we all know Like, "A dog
has four legs." Or "How does a
garden grow?

You may need to do some research,


or you just might use You eye. Either
way you'll find the answer, because
FACTS Will never lie

If you can look upon to see it, then


you know it must be true. "The shirt
she has on is green." and "The sky a
shade of blue."

It's really very easy to know what a


FACTS about. Just look, read about,
or Google it, then it's a FACT no
doubt!

Now OPINIONS are a little sneakier,


it's what you think or feel. Like green
is a "pretty" color, and pizza's my
"favorite" meal.

Or "I think that dress is pretty, and


football is the "greatest" sport. But
others "think it's basketball...because
it's played on a court.

"I believe" is another clue, that an


OPINION is what it might be. Some
"believe" that Christmas is best... but
Thanksgivings the best for me!

So when you have a feeling, and you


think it must be true. Remember...
that's actually not a fact... it's only an

Dear students, today we are going to discuss


about the statements of facts and opinions.

Let’s Define facts and opinion.

Fact- is a specific detail that can be proven as


true based on objective evidence. Objective
proof can be one or more of the following:
physical evidence, an eyewitness account, or
the result of an accepted scientific method.

Opinion – is a feeling, judgment, belief, or


conclusion that cannot be proven true by
objective evidence.

It is also important for us to distinguish the


difference of facts and opinions.

I will show you a table that will help you to


easily separate fact from opinion.

-states reality -interprets reality
-can be verified -can’t verified

Dear students, let’s read each statement and (The students are identifying if it is

Opinions cannot be proven.

Very good dear students!

Always remember that a fact is a specific


detail that can be proven as true based on
objective evidence. While, opinion is a
feeling, judgment, belief, or conclusion that
cannot be proven true by objective evidence.

IV. Evaluation
A. Read each statement below, identify whether the statement is a Fact or an
Opinion.

1. Mother Theresa has dedicated her life in helping the poor.


2. The sweetest dessert after meal is an ice cream.
3. Basketball game catches the most number of tele viewers.
4. Zeus is the King of the gods in Greek Literature.
5. Not every place has four climate seasons.
6. Every person’s birthday is the happiest moment in his/her life.
7. Vitamin C helps in strengthening the body’s immune system.
8. The more money people have, the more successful they are.
9. Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball ball player of all time.
10. Playing video game is more fun than doing homework
