I. LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Content Standard The learners demonstrate their multiliteracies and communicative competence in evaluating
informational texts (expository texts and journalistic texts: news and press releases, and
features) for clarity of meaning, purpose, and target audience as a foundation for publishing
original informational texts.
Performance The learners analyze the style, forms and features of informational texts (expository texts,
Standard news and press releases, and features); evaluate informational texts for clarity of meaning,
purpose and target audience; and compose and publish original multimodal informational
texts ( expository texts, news and press releases, and features) using appropriate forms and
structures that represent their meaning, purpose, and target audience.
Learning EN7INF-III-6 Distinguish facts from claims/opinions:

Objectives At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
a. Differentiate between fact, and opinion,
b. Appreciate the importance of identifying reliable information, and
c. Sort given statements into fact, and opinion, in a group activity.

III. PROCEDURE
Teacher’s Guide Teacher’s Activity

A. Preliminary Activity
a. Prayer The teacher will call a student to lead the prayer.
b. Greetings The teacher will greet the students.
c. Energizer The teacher will present an energizer to boost the energy of
the students.
d. Attendance The teacher will ask the class secretary to write down who is
absent today.
e. Checking of Assignment The teacher will collect the students assignments.
f. Setting of Behavioral Standard The will set a classroom rules for the students to follow.
Classroom Rules
1. Listen and Follow instructions.
2. Raise your hand before speaking.
3. Respect others.
4. Always do your best.

g. Review of the Previous Lesson The teacher will ask the students what is their previous
lesson.

Then, the teacher will ask,


1. What is essay?
2. What are the parts of an essay?

B. ACTIVITY
Activity Name: “Fact or Feeling?” Activity Name: “Fact or Feeling?”
Instruction: Let’s play a game called Fact or Feelings? I’ll
say a sentence, and you have to decide whether it is Fact
when the statement is true , or a Feeling if it is someone’s
opinion.

If you think it’s a FACT, you stand up and raise both hands.
If you think it is a FEELING or Opinion, stay seated and
cross your arms.
The teacher will start the stating the statements one by one.

1. Dogs have four legs. -F


2. Ice cream is the best dessert. -O
3. I believe that school days should only be three days a
week. - O
4. A year has 365 days but when it is a leap year, it has 366
days.-F
5. Blue is the nicest color. -O

The teacher congratulate the students for participating and


analyzing the statements well.
C. ANALYSIS After the game, the teacher ask few question regarding the
activity they had.

Question:
1. What did you notice about the statements you identified as
facts?
2. How were opinions different from facts?
3. What do you think will be our lesson today?

If the student guess it right or near to the right answer, the


teacher will present the topic of their lesson.

D. ABSTRACT
a. Discussion Every day, we read or hear information from news, social
media, and even our classmates. But how do we know what
is true and what is just someone’s personal thoughts?

What is fact?
A fact is true and can be proven.

Example:
1. The Philippines is in Southeast Asia.
2. There are 12 months in a year.

Tip: If you can prove it, it’s a fact.

What is an Opinion?
An opinion is what someone thinks or feels. It is not always
true for everyone.

Example:
1. I think English is fun.
2. Chocolate is the best flavor.

Tip: It sometimes starts with “I think,” “I believe,” or


“should,” it’s an opinion.
b. Activity Activity Name: Fact- Opinion Charade
Instructions: The will group the students into groups.
One member from the team will pick a paper with FACT
and OPINION written on it.
Each team will create a statement based on what they picked
either Fact or Opinion.
The first group to write their answer on the board will get 5
points.

Reflection Question:
“ What would you feel if someone shared an opinion that
sounded true?”

“Don’t believe everything you hear , learn to tell what’s real,


and what’s personal. Learning to tell them apart, help us
think clearly and avoid being misled.”
E. APPLICATION Activity Name: “Sort Me Up!”
Direction: Sort given statements into fact, and opinion.

Instructions: In the same group, place the statement under


the correct category: FACT & OPINION.
After sorting all statements, each group will share and
explain their answer in front of the class.

Group 1
1. The Earth revolves around the Sun.
2. Basketball is more exciting than soccer.
3. There are seven continents in the world.
4. Reading books is the best way to relax.
5. Water freezes at 0 degrees Celsius.

Group 2
1. The Pacific Ocean is the largest ocean on Earth.
2. All schools should have longer recess.
3. Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world.
4. Pineapple on pizza tastes terrible.
5. The Philippines declared independence in 1898.

The teacher will give points to the students.


The teacher will ask if they have understood the lesson and
if they have questions and clarification about the lesson.
The teacher will summarize the lesson for recap.
Then, the teacher will ask the students to answer the quiz in
a 1/4 sheet of paper.

IV. EVALUATION

Directions: Write F if the statement is a Fact and O if it is


an Opinion.

1. The Earth has one moon.

2. Pizza is the best food in the world.

3. Dogs have better hearing than humans.

4. Math is the most difficult subject.

5. There are 12 months in a year.

6. Reading is more fun than watching TV.


7. The Pacific Ocean is deeper than the Atlantic
Ocean.

8. My birthday is the happiest day of the year.

9. The Eiffel Tower is located in Paris, France.

10. Blue looks better than red

V. ASSIGNMENT

Directions: Choose a short article or social


media post and identify five statements
from it. For each statement, decide if it is a
fact or an opinion and explain your answer
briefly. Submit your work .

This task will help you apply your


understanding of facts and opinions in real-
life contexts
