A. Air is compressed in a reversible compressor at an initial temperature and pressure of 28 deg. C

and 95 kPa, respectively. Air leaves the compressor at 650 kPa. Compute the compressor work per
unit mass.
B. A cylinder has a bore diameter of 15 cm, stroke of 45 cm and volumetric compression is 2000
cm3, find the volumetric efficiency of the engine.

Thank you and have a blessed day!

Answer : (A)
Given: initial pressure, p1 = 95 kpa initial temperature, T1 = 28 deg. C = 301 K
final pressure, p2 = 650 kpa
Now,
Answer: (B)
Given: bore diameter = 15 cm
stroke length = 45 cm

volumetric compresssion (actual volume) = 2000 cm3

Now,

swept volume = cylinder crossectional area * stroke length

= 3.14 * 7.5 * 7.5 * 45
= 7948.125 cm3
on putting these values in formula ,we get
volumetric efficiency = 0.2516 = 25.16%
Here I have attached the solution for the problem.

Please note that the property of water I taken from ASHRAE standard.

Specific heat of water 4.185 kj/kg.k

Specific heat of water 2.09 kj/kg.k

1ton = 1000 kg

Latent heat of freezing is 335kj/kg.

Please go for it if you find any problem please let me know.

I will definitely help you.

Thanks
Water (specific heat c=4.2 kJ/kg-K) is being heated by a 1500 W heater. What is the rate of change
in temperature of 1 kg of the water?

1500W literally means 1500 J/s.

it takes 4200 joules to raise 1 kg of water by 1 kelvin
1500/4200 = .357
so, the water is being heated at a rate of .357 kelvin per second
The evaporator and condenser pressures are 186 kPa and 11 atm respectively. The intercooler
pressure is approximately…?

Evaporator pressure= 186kpa

Condenser pressure = 11 atm = 1114.57 kpa

As we know for maximum work

Intercooler pressure is the geometric mean of the evaporator and condensor

Pinter-coller = (186*1114.57)^.5
=. 455.314 kpa

= 4.49 atm

One kilogram of wet steam at a pressure of 8 bar (vg = 0.2404 m3/kg, vf = 0.0011148 m3/kg) and
dryness 0.94 is expanded until the pressure is 4 bar (vg = 0.4625 m3/kg, vf = 0.0010836 m3/kg). If
the expansion follows the law PV^1.2 = C, find the dryness fraction of the steam at the lower
pressure.

Three thousand cubic feet per minute of air are circulated over an air-cooled
condenser. If the load on the condenser iss 64,800 Btu/hr , compute the
temperature rise of the air passing over the condenser. a) 16°F c) 20°F b) 18°F d)
22°F
Solution: Q = mCpΔt
Where: Q = 64, 800 Btu/hr
m = ρV
m = 0.075 lb/ft3 (3000 ft3/min) (60min/hr)
m = 13,500 lb/hr
Cp = 0.24 Btu/lb °F
Thus; 6400 = 13,500 (0.24) Δt (c) Δt = 20°F
