ASSIGNMENT QUESTION
OBJECTIVE
This assignment is to evaluate learners’ analytical skills in discussing the application of the
food poisoning outbreak investigation and control.
SYNOPSIS:
Food poisoning is common in Malaysia and worldwide. Majority of food poisoning cases are
not severe requiring hospitalisation but seen and treated as outpatients. Nonetheless,
deaths can occur following severe dehydration and multiorgan failure if patients are late in
seeking treatment after developing bouts of diarrhoea. The World Health Organisation
(WHO) estimates almost 1 in 10 people in the world fall ill after eating contaminated food
with 420,000 recorded deaths every year. Furthermore, children under 5 years of age carry
40% of the foodborne disease burden with an annual 125,000 deaths among them.
TASK:
You are responding to a food poisoning outbreak event happens in a boarding School XYZ
affecting 200 cases out of 1,000 school children. Using one particular foodborne pathogen
of your choice, discuss the important steps in conducting the food poisoning outbreak
investigation and recommend its specific control and preventive measures to stop the
outbreak in the School XYZ.

OBJEKTIF:
Tugasan ini adalah untuk menilai kemahiran pemikiran analitikal pelajar dalam
membincangkan aplikasi siasatan dan kawalan wabak keracunan makanan.
SINOPSIS:
Keracunan makanan lazim berlaku di Malaysia dan serata dunia. Majoriti daripada kes-kes
keracunan makanan tidak teruk sehingga perlu dimasukkan ke hospital sebaliknya dilihat
dan dirawat sebagai pesakit luar. Namun begitu, kematian boleh berlaku akibat dehidrasi
yang teruk dan kegagalan pelbagai organ sekiranya pesakit lewat mendapatkan rawatan
setelah mengalami cirit-birit berulang kali. Pertubuhan Kesihatan Sedunia (WHO)
menganggarkan sekitar 1 daripada 10 orang di dunia jatuh sakit setelah memakan makanan
tercemar mencatatkan 420,000 kematian setiap tahun. Lebih-lebih lagi, kanak-kanak di
bawah umur 5 tahun mewakili 40% beban penyakit bawaan makanan dengan kematian
tahunan sebanyak 250,000 orang di kalangan mereka.
SOALAN:
Anda bertindak ke atas satu kejadian wabak keracunan makanan di sebuah Sekolah
Asrama XYZ melibatkan 200 kes daripada 1,000 orang pelajar. Menggunakan satu patogen
khusus penyebab keracunan makanan mengikut pilihan anda, sila bincang langkah-
langkah penting dalam melakukan siasatan wabak keracunan makanan dan cadangkan
tindakan-tindakan kawalan dan pencegahan yang spesifik bagi menghentikan wabak ini di
