ACTIVITIES PRE-LESSON Students asked to responses using either the Present Simple or
Present Continuous. Students discuss their responses with talk
partners. Students play a game which reviews the uses of Present
Simple vs Present Progressive or revises stative verbs (see, like,
seem, understand, need, believe, imagine, know) which do not
usually take the Progressive form.
LESSON DELIVERY Students asked to read through the examples. Students pay
attention to the verbs in bold and they asked what the difference
between the Present Simple and the Present Continuous is.
Students explained that the Present Continuous is also used with
always when describing an annoying habit. Students are given
another example. Students are asked to give some more example.
Students refer to the four texts in the reading activity and they
asked to find examples of the two tenses. Students do the activity
in the grammar section. The answers checked with the class.
POST LESSON Students are asked to write six sentences. Three sentence using
stative verbs and three sentences using action verbs in the present
continuous. Students make two deliberate mistakes. Students swap
the sentences and spot the sentences which are wrong.

ACTIVITIES PRE-LESSON Students asked to play True/False activity. Students receive red
and green cards (red to show False, green to show True). The
lesson starts verbally or with a series of statements on the
whiteboard and students tell whether they think each statement is
True or False using their cards.
LESSON DELIVERY Students divided into groups of four. Students asked to look at the
four pictures and describe the activities they know. Students pay
attention to the list of questions as well as to the words and
phrases in the boxes. Any unknown words are explained. Students
pay attention to the TIPS. Students do the activity in groups of four
and some groups are chosen to act out their conversations in class.
POST LESSON Students are asked to review their learning in this lesson by
completing an exit card: ‘what went well in your learning?’ and
‘your learning would have been even better if…’. The cards are
collected and use them for planning subsequent lessons.

board which will illustrate the difference between ‘used to’ (I used

happily) and mime the action in an appropriate manner while the
