IV. BACKGROUND INFORMATION

IT is short for Information Technology and is pronounced as separate letters. Information technology is the broad
subject concerned with all aspects of managing and processing information, especially within a large
organization or company. IT is generally not used in reference to personal or home computing and networking.

IT is More than Computers and Networks. While IT is often used to describe computers and computer networks,
it actually includes all layers of all systems within an organization — from the physical hardware to the operating
systems, applications, databases, storage, servers and more. Telecommunication technologies, including
Internet and business phones are also part of an organization's IT infrastructure.

This lab will help you become familiar with the IT profession.

VI. LABORATORY ACTIVITY

Answer the following questions:

1. Why did you take IT as your course in college?

I started to have an interest in information technology courses when I took Computer

System Servicing as my strand of choice when I was in senior high school. I really liked
the subject to begin with, and I am quite sure I want a career in the IT industry,
particularly related to the technical side of IT. A few months before my graduation, I did
some research regarding what IT courses would fit with my skills and future goals. I
found out that IT is a broad discipline and that you can specialize in several specific
areas as an IT graduate, which made it easier for me to decide to take Information
Technology as my undergrad program. I also applied to international schools that offer
IT programs and was accepted to one of them, Bergen Community College in New
Jersey, USA. I wasn’t able to attend the said school because there was a problem with
my visa and pandemic happened after. I got frustrated, and decided to enroll at St. Paul
University Iloilo in their tourism program since it is my 2nd choice of course next to IT.
Unfortunately, I did not like the way the online class was set up. I decided to stop for a
year and moved here in Metro Manila to finally study at FEU Tech. I am taking Bachelor
of Science in Information Technology with a specialization in Business Analytics.

2. What is your “Dream Job”?

I have three options I want to be the CEO of a large technology company or an

entrepreneur, and have my own technology company and last I want to be a lawyer. I
still have at least 3 years to decide if what dream job will I really pursue and focus on
that single goal. I know this is hard to achieve, but that is why we call it a dream job,
right? because it gives us hope and motivation to become that ideal person someday.

3. How do you see yourself ten years from now?

I look at myself as being a successful person (hopefully) who earns a good amount of
money (but isn't driven by it or isn't all about money). I see myself heavily investing in
technology given the fact that the innovation span of it is vast and limitless. Also, a
philanthropist, as I want to give a lot to this world for what it has given me. I just want a
decent life and will try to make it better for as many people as I can and however much I

can. I love helping out other people as much as I can, and I never turn anyone down if
they want my help, and I want to continue being like that. I want to get a nice home to
live in, a healthy and strong body, a car I've always dreamed of, and relax my way
through life, and like I said, do as much good as I can in this world for everyone.
