well as advocating towards causes that bears empowering visions. As a youth of my generation, I
often got criticized for the things that I stand for – matters that are way too big for my age and
issues that are too heavy for me to handle. However, as I found myself participating on a webinar
for our NSTP 2 course that was entitled “Amidst Pandemic: Youth Engagement for Positive Change”
and as I listened to the inspiring youth speaker who happens to be at the same age as me, I realized
that as a young individual, there are so many things that I can offer and provide to my community.
The webinar was truly motivational and marked as an eye-opener to all youths. The
discussion started off by introducing the guest speaker Ms. Robyn Mijares, who is an executive
director of a non-government organization that focuses in empowering youth to make a big impact
in the world around them. I was deeply amazed on how the young speaker told the story and origin
of her organization, where it all started from being a passion and turning it into action. At a very
young age, Ms. Robyn have already proved that your age is not a hindrance in making a difference.
But, as we lived in a world where negativities and discrimination are inevitable, it is never easy to
speak up as a person who is only labelled as “just a teenager”. The first half of the seminar talked
about the various prejudices that often older people have towards the younger ones. It pains me to
hear on how some adults can simply belittle our capabilities in sharing our ideas and participation
towards problem-solving situations and meaningful conversations. But then again, big problem are
not only for big people. I believe that as young as we are, there are many things that we can already
support and fight for. As Ms. Robyn mentioned, it is all about the How, Why, and Now. Our age will
not define the changes that we can make in our community, starting from small acts of victories
such as tree planting, mental health awareness, zero waste management, advocating for human
rights, and supporting local products are already effective initiatives that will not only influence our
lives but also the lives of the people that we choose to champion. As a student, I want to be
somebody that has pure intentions in helping street children that lacks access to proper and quality
education, for I am privileged enough to put myself in a great university, it is my sincere desire to
share the blessings and favors that I have to the needy. By giving school supplies, instructional
materials, and teaching sessions, I believe that this can make a great impact.
The whole experience was phenomenal, I am so inspired and driven to give back and leave a
lasting impact to my community. The webinar ended and I am very amaze on how youths can
participate and lead empathic initiatives in the world around them even in the midst of a pandemic.
It just shows that this generation’s young people are capable, empowered, and resilient. It is not
only their intelligence and self-awareness that will make them influential, but it is their desire and
passion to make a positive change.
