Smarter Decision Making through Psychology

August 4, 2020

Question 1: Define mindset and describe how mindset relates to Reggie’s reaction to the
compliance test. Use your Soomo webtext as you define mindset and apply it to Reggie’s
reaction. Remember to provide an in-text citation for the ideas that you paraphrase.

The attitudes that shape how a person perceives himself and the outside world are known as
mindsets. One's mindset affects how they see, feel, and act in a particular circumstance. Mindsets
can be static or dynamic (Nadelson, et al., 2020). People who have a fixed mindset think that
because their abilities are fixed, they cannot be changed. People with a fixed mindset firmly
believe that their intelligence and talents are all they need to succeed, and that they don't need to
put forth any work. Reggie is an example of someone with a fixed mindset since he perceives
learning new methods of performing his job as difficult when he discovers that conformance is
required. His thinking is resistant to change. He thinks his knowledge and skills are
unchangeable, so he is unable to adjust to any situation, no matter how things change. He claims
that learning a new technology was very difficult for him, and as a result, he doesn't think he can
pass the test on safety policy.

Question 2: What is brain plasticity? How does brain plasticity relate to mindset Use your
Soomo webtext as you define brain plasticity and discuss its relationship to mindset.
Remember to provide an in-text citation for the ideas that you paraphrase.

The capacity of the brain to change connections is known as brain plasticity. With the help of
this capability, the brain can expand and mature with age. The brain has the capacity to alter both
its structure and function when the body and external factors such as the environment change.
Mindset and brain plasticity are related since both focus on development and adaptability. Given
that both the growth mentality and brain plasticity are motivated by growth, It is anticipated that
intelligence and capability will increase with more effort (Mateos & Rodríguez-Moreno, 2019).
According to Reggie's brain plasticity, the loss of a brain cell has caused extremely delayed
neural processing in his brain. He thinks that because of his fixed abilities and traits, he is unable
to learn new skills or develop existing ones. Reggie's fixed mentality causes him to constantly
think negatively, which makes him anxious.

Question 3: If Reggie were your coworker, what about his mindset would you want to keep
in mind when offering advice and strategies to him? Why do you think this is important?
Write a paragraph to identify what is important to remember about Reggie and why it is
important.

The most important thing is that I don't make him feel bad by teaching him how to study and by
offering him advice because he is an old man with knowledge of the business. As it is a human

tendency to take offense when given advice, this is crucial to remember. Reggie is in a horrible
predicament, and the only thing that can help him is the self-testing method, which he can use to
enhance his learning (Nadelso et al., 2020). He can attempt that strategy or look for something
similar that will help him remember stuff, as employing mnemonic devices is one of my favorite
ways to recall knowledge. Reggie must also get enough sleep in order for the new information to
permeate into his brain. A few hours of sleep impairs cognitive function.

Question 4: In Chapter 4, you learned about memory and how to effectively study. Using
Chapter 4 in the webtext, write some talking points for Gloria to share with Reggie so he
will be prepared for the compliance test. Use your Soomo webtext to describe two specific
study strategies and why those would work for Reggie. Remember to include an in-text
citation for the ideas that your paraphrase.

Two strategies include relearning and recalling.Relearning will help them remember the lesson.
Reggie can experience the offered martial arts as often as he wants. Relearning is important in
ensuring that the material is retained in the brain (Rawson, & Dunlosky, 2022). Retrieving is the
critical knowledge that was previously learned but is not conscious is what recalling entails.
Reggie can test his recall by trying to fill in the blanks on the questions.Reggie can use multiple
choice questions to test recognition, which aids in identifying previously learned things and
items. I developed these techniques because Reggie struggles to remember what he has learned
in the event of a test. As a result, by relearning, recalling, and recognizing, one can easily prepare
for the test.
