This document furnishes design calculation for foundation of FAN. Overall length of the foundation is 3,7 m. Width
of foundation is 2,2 m and Depth 1 m
standard excel program has been used for the dynamic analysis of this foundation. This program caters for both
the Static and Dynamic checks as per Ferronickel Smelter Development Project standards given in references in
Civil Design Basis
Subject machine is a centrifugal type, 1800 KW (approx.), 1500RPM (approx.), 21.110 ton (approx.) FAN package.
Analysis shows that all critical parameters like weight ratio (6.16), eccentricities (1.32% max), bearing pressure (58
– 74 kN/m2), amplitude (7,62 micron max), velocity (2,5 mm/s max), frequencies (1125 – 1875 rpm)-taken 1500
rpm

The minimum reinforcement should apply in all reinforced elements concrete foundation as per related BS code.
(1) The ends of mild steel reinforcing bars should be always hooked, irrespective to whether they are designed for
tension or compression.
(4) If the foundation is over 1 m thick, shrinkage reinforcement should be spaced approximately 600mm in three
dimensions. (Cube reinforcing with minimum bar diameter of 16mm).
(5) The minimum reinforcement in a concrete block should consist of bars at least 16mm diameter spaced
300mm (max) centre to centre, extending vertically and horizontally near all faces of the block foundation.
ACI Recommendation :Minimum reinforcement for vibratory equipment as per ACI 351.3R-45 :-
As per some firms suggestion, a minimum reinforcing of 50kg/m3 for piers and 30kg/m3 for foundation slabs
should be used. For compressor blocks, some firms suggest 1% reinforcing by volume, Many engineers
recommend additional reinforcement, such as hairpin bars, around embedded anchor bolts to ensure long-term
performance.

10.0 CONCLUSION
The analysis and design of block foundation for the "FAN " presented in this program have been done
following all relevant Codes, Project specifications and Standards. As per the requirement of equipment
vendor, natural frequencies are kept away from machine frequency by 20%. Amplitudes and velocity of
vibration are well within stipulated limit. Hence, the design is considered OK from strength and
serviceability point of view.
