    Activity 1: THE TEACHER WE REMEMBER:

    Based on the given activity, answer the following questions: (5 points each)

    1. From the PPSTs, the Southeast Asia Teachers Competency Standards and the TEDx videos that
    you viewed, what competencies does a great teacher possess?
    Based from the PPSTs, the Southeast Asia Teachers Competency Standards and the TEDx
    videos that I viewed, a great teacher possesses competencies. Great teachers never stop
    learning. The next step is to advance from proficient to highly proficient after obtaining the
    qualification to become a professional teacher. A great teacher, on the other hand, knows and
    understands what to teach, assists students in learning, engages with the community, and strives
    to become a better teacher every day, according to the frameworks provided by the Southeast
    Asia Teachers Competency Standards. Being a teacher entails taking on a larger role that extends
    beyond the classroom. Great teachers, according to the video I watched, have a deep
    understanding of their students. They are also a very good listener which is very important for a
    teacher. Great teachers are capable of bringing out the best in their students. Regardless of the
    difficulties their students are facing, they have a deep understanding and can see beyond. They
    help each student recognize their own worth, destiny, and purpose, which influences their future
    decisions.

    2. Are those competencies limited only to professional competencies?


    No, the competencies I listed above are not limited to professional skills only. Personal
    attributes are also required of all teachers in order for teaching and learning to be succ essful. It
    is essential to provide students with precise knowledge because they rely on what their teachers
    teach them. Personal characteristics of a teacher are very important for a better relationship
    within the classroom and in the larger community to which a teacher belongs. A teacher must try
    to understand and support each of his/her students to the best of their abilities in a classroom
    with different backgrounds and skill levels.

    3. For a teacher to be great, it is enough to possess the professional competencies to plan a


    lesson, execute a lesson plan, manage a class, assess learning, compute and report grades?
    Explain your answer.
    In my own opinion and observation, I think it is not enough to only possess the
    professional competencies to plan a lesson, execute a lesson plan, manage a class, assess
    learning, compute and report grades. Though these are the job or responsibilities of a teacher
    but to be a great teacher, one must also possess a good personal characteristics because it the
    teacher’s engagement or relationship with his/her students is very important. He/she must
    understands the interests, problems or any challenges that his/her students are facing, know
    their capabilities in order for him/her to provide them a quality learning experience and support
    them on their journey as they study.
    4. For a teacher to be great, which is more important - personal qualities or professional
    competencies?
    For me, as what I have said in my previous answers, both personal qualities and
    professional competencies are important. They are equally important. The professional
    competencies must be possessed by a teacher since it is necessary for them to learn the basic
    methods and strategies of teaching, and learn how to handle the different students with different
    characteristics and cultures. A teacher to be great must also have a good personal qualities.
    He/she must have an excellent communication and listening skills so that the students will
    become comfortable with the teacher and to have more interest and be more engaged in
    learning. A great teacher understands the students’ needs and try his/her best on what he can
    do about it especially on the students’ educational challenges.

    5. Who are the teachers that we remember most?


    Based on my own observation, the teachers that we can remember the most are those
    who gave us inspiration and encouragement and those who have done something good that
    touches our hearts. But not only teachers who have done good to the students are
    remembered the most, also those teachers who we have encountered bad experiences as well.
    We mostly remembered teachers when we experience something worst and/or good things
    with them that affects or have impacts in our lives.
