Pe3 - Module 1
Pe3 - Module 1
Exercises are activities that one does repeatedly to achieve goal: to improve one’s own fitness
level. They consist of exercises that improve one’s endurance, strength and flexibility. Physical
fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body; it is the basis of dynamic
and creative intellectual activity. Today, we will learn another physical activity and another way
on how to be physically fit.
Describe the following games. Which type of game do you usually play? What benefit can we
get from playing these games?
The following games are baseball, Luksong tinik, bamboo climbing, and tumbang preso. I
usually play baseball and tumbang preso. As we can see these are the outdoor games and
when we speak of benefits of outdoor plays, we think more in terms of simple everyday
games like the mentions games above, it provides the opportunity to exercise without
stress. It enhances creativity and promotes better socialization among kids. It can also
help in building a connection between the children and their elders. Spending time
outside, even in a city environment, allows a child to make a connection with nature.
There may be trees to climb, birds to feed, ants to observe, and the sky and the
changing cloud patterns and weather to watch. All human beings should get to know
the creation well. Being outside also gives children a freedom they usually don't have
indoors. There are usually less rules to observe outside. Inside is a good place for
children to learn to use a quiet voice, learn not to run, to clean up and generally to learn
to be rule followers. But outside is much more forgiving. The wide open spaces outside
allow for running, jumping, climbing, loud voices and tracking mud all over. The
supervising adults are usually a bit farther away, which allows kids the freedom to make
their own decisions. They take risks and learn to trust their judgement. They create a
world of imaginary play where they are in charge, giving them practice for their future.

ANALYSIS: Answer the following questions. Use the space provided or used separate sheet if
needed.
1. Can you identify the desirable values derived from playing team indigenous games?
Traditional Indigenous games taught valuable skills but also combined
mental and physical wellbeing. Agility, strength, balance, reflexes, hand-eye
coordination, accuracy, strategy, intuition, patience, these are the desirable
values derived from playing indigenous games. Run and Scream is a great
example of valuable skills, children would line up, take a big breath, start
running fast while screaming until they ran out of breath. To an outside
observer, it would look like a bunch of kids having fun running and
screaming. But, in reality, it was a bunch of kids having fun running while
building muscles, increasing the lung capacity necessary for fitness and to
hold the long notes in songs, burning off extra energy, and releasing any
stress.
3. As a Filipino, do you believe that playing Indigenous Games can unite the people within
the community? Why?
As a Filipino I do believe that playing indigenous games has preserve
heritage, promote social cohesion, cultural diversity and nation building.
Furthermore, the games encourage healthy lifestyles, and discourage
unwanted social behavior by keeping the youth engaged. Honoring these
indigenous games unshackles us from the stereotypical thinking that our
games are inferior. These are our games and they are ours to preserve, to
hold on to, to teach and to share. Participation in indigenous games
emphasizes physical development, skills training, reinforcement of
community values and interaction between communities. These games
unite us as people and once we are united there won’t be any discrimination
or bias against each other. An indigenous game brings together a mixture of
people from different communities, backgrounds, religions and beliefs.
Games can offer a new way to meet others that you may not interact with
day to day. As a result, you can make new friends. And who knows, playing a
sport might even open new career and business opportunities for you.
IV. RELECTION
Direction: Write a journal below on the indigenous games you played in your childhood.
My childhood years seem like a lifetime ago, so everything seems pretty hazy to me. I was more
interested in reading books. I did occasionally play such games though, sometimes with my sister,
sometimes with relatives that were around my age, and sometimes with the weird and wonderful
people I called classmates. However, I can’t remember just who taught me these games, nor can I
remember the exact rules. Gilli Danda or also known as “shatom” one of those games I played before,
in this game we need only two pieces of wood, one is small and another is slightly larger. Small called
Gilli and larger called Danda. The aim of the game is to hit the Gilli by Danda as far as possible. This
game was very popular in my childhood, I played this game a lot with friends, but currently it has
almost disappeared. And one of our classic traditional toys that I usually play would be the "turumpo"
or Philippine style top, since then, early filipinos play spinning tops made from carved wood (shaped as
the top's body) and a nail to serve as the tip. Me and my friends love to D-I-Y or Do it yourself toys and
can be made from different materials virtually any wood found in the neighborhood can be made to a
top. We painted our "turumpos" in different hues and patterns to have distinction from others. A
personalized toy with artistic flair. An array of colored tops spinning in the streets is very nice to see
and exudes culture. These turumpos could also be used to perform tricks, for street shows and could
be a battle top wherein two turumpos hit each other and the one left spinning is victorious. Turumpos
evolved to be one of the Philippines' national toy, everyone could play these spinners, even if you are
rich or poor, and can be played by children and adults alike. Sadly, with the turn of the millennial, these
traditional toys began to fade on the streets, as technology dominated the world the traditional games
and toys are being left out. Nonetheless, turumpos and other philippine traditional toys became a
symbol of national art, culture, heritage and games. It should not be forgotten.

Note: Picture yourself during the execution of the selected indigenous game and paste the
picture in the space provided upon the return of the module. Write a story about the
indigenous game you played.
I can still remember when I last played this game. The last time I jumped over another
person is way exciting than I expected because it has been years though. Luksong baka is
another game which is played most of the kids from my childhood times. But little by little, as
time passes by, kids are not playing this game. Maybe due to the big impact of modern
technology. Luksong baka is played usually of kids from 5-10 members. The game starts with
"maiba taya" to identify who will be the "baka" (the person who will be jumped on). All of the
players will then be jumping over the baka. Their objective is to surpass each level of the game
without touching any part of their body (except their hands) to the body parts of the baka. As
the level of the game goes higher, difficulty level also gets tougher and tougher. But for the
players, it is getting even more exciting. There are seven levels in this game.
Pandesal is the first level where the baka kneels on the ground. Spaghetti is when the
baka will bow with the tips of his/her hand placed on the ground. Royal it is like spaghetti but
the difference is that the tips of the hands are placed at the feet of the baka (ankle level).
Patapik sa pwet this is like the previous level but the thing is that the players should tap the
butt of the baka before jumping over. Pasayad this is also like the Royal level but the player has
to land their butt partly at the back of the baka. Horse-kick like the pasayad this level also have
its twist. The players should kick the butt of the baka while they are on air. Star this is the final
level in which the first one to jump will be the first star and so on, so forth. The hands of the
baka this time is placed on his/her knees. After the jump of each of them, they will sit beside
the baka which will add more excitement to the game.
If all of the current players successfully surpass all the levels, the game will then be
resumed at the first level. But if not, the game will be started at the first level and whoever did
not surpass will be the one to be jumping over by the new set of players including the previous
baka.
