1.Description of main parts of the escalator

summary:The escalator has some main components, such as truss, drive, transmission system,

steps, track system, balustrade, decking, safety equipment, and electrical system etc.

The following is the main structure of FES type escalator

1.1 Truss

‹ All the components of escalator are fixed on the truss. The metal frame uses high strength,

low deformation, and angle steel. The two pieces of truss are connected with channel steels

and steel plates. The use of gas shield welding, the ultrasonic and magnetic powder flaw

detection, ensure that the safety of the frame is highly dependable. At the supporting point,

there are some rubber pads, which can lessen the transmission of vibrations, between the

supporting angel of truss and the surface of the supporting pillars of the building.

1.2 Transmission system

‹ Steps and handrail are driven by the transmission system.

‹ The driving equipment 12 turns main axle 2, via double roller driving wheel 3, and then turn

steps chains and make steps running; And then turn the pinion 13 on the main axle, transfer

to handrail axle chain wheel 5,via the handrail driving chain 11, and making handrail running.

‹ The size of each type chain wheel and its number of teeth is designed according to the

requirement of movement of the escalator. All the chains are easy to be assembled and

disassembled, and are guaranteed to be of sufficient strength and stiffness.

1.2.1 Main driving shaft

‹ The main driving shaft is composed of main axle, driving sprocket, double roller driving wheel,

bearing, pinion etc, and fixed with truss via pins and bolts on support-plate.

‹ If the driving chain or the steps chain breaks, there is a danger that the steps and the

passenger on the steps will slip forward. If the escalator is fully loaded and it is a high-rise

type, then passenger may easily be injured. Therefore, the EN115 standard provides that

there must be another brake device against this kind of situation.

1.2.2 Handrail driving shaft

‹ The handrail driving shaft is composed of friction wheel (with rubber tier on), handrail axle,

handrail axle chain wheel, bearing, etc, and fixed with angle steel via bolt.

1.3 Drive unit

‹ The escalator uses the drive with high efficiency, lower noise and transmission calm.

‹ The service brake is the mach-electrical type. The brake releases via power supply during

operation. When power breaks down, the brake acts via the pressure spring.

‹ Drive unit is composed of motor 3, gear box 4, service brake 2 and fly wheel 1etc.

1.3.1Adjustment of the brake


Summary Contents
Brake It is composed of magnetic 1,safety switch 2, pressure spring 3,
brake arm 5, brake pad 6(see diagram1-7a)。
Stop distance can be adjusted via the pressure spring.
The brake pad should be ex-changed if it fretted to much.
Adjustment of the Escalator is guaranteed to be certain stop distance. It is dangerous if
brake distance this distance is too big. Check this distance every maintenance .This
stop distance is about 300mm on free load. (see diagram
following1-7b).Adjusting the length of spring until it meets standard
that the brake distance is 300mm.

The gap of magnetic The gap of magnetic pole 10 and bolt 8 of brake arm 5 is L=0.5mm

and adjusting Rotate bolt 8 until it strikes magnetic pole 10.
After striking 10, rotate bolt 8 outwards 0.5-1mm, the gap must be in
accordance with each other.
Fasten nut 9 on both side, and adjustment is over.

Warming !

‹ Shut off motor power. Before hand-wheeling restore the block to the normal position.

‹ Operate the hand-wheel lever to the state (see diagram 1-7d) and keep this position. And

then rotate the flying wheel according to the direction signed on the flying wheel.

‹ When the escalator is controlled by two drive device, the two motor must be operated

synchronously according to the step 2.

‹ When finished the action, loose the hand-wheel lever and then the hand-wheel lever will

come to the normal working states.

1.4 Steps

‹ The outside layer of the roller is made of polyester resin and inner layer is composed of roll

bearing. The step fixes its position with two nylon pads fixed at its both sides. In addition, the

vice rollers are free wheel and they aren’t connected with the chains. Thereafter, the

structure make the steps are level within rail of passenger side and are able to turn upside

down within return side.

1.5 Handrail

‹ The escalator is equipped with two single winding traveling handrails. Each handrail forms an

endless loop without visible joint. The handrail is composed of rubber, canvas and steel

strips, and has high drawn proof.

‹ In standard model, the handrail is black, but other colors can be selected according to the

customer’s requirements.

1.6 Skirting

‹ The skirting panels are made of stainless steel or carbon steel with Teflon, and they are

located at each side of steps. The skirting panels are fixed on truss via skirting supports.

1. 7 Outer and inner decking

‹ The outer and inner decking generally uses stainless steel, and they are inserted into the

clamping profile on the handrail support. The inner decking is fixed to the skirting via

stainless steel screws, and the outer decking is fixed to the truss by all kinds of support

plates,.

1.8 Comb centering device

‹ The comb centering device is composed of comb supporting 2, comb plate 1(five pieces

when width 1000mm), and contact switch 4. The thickness of supporting plate is 20mm, and

the material of comb plate is die cast aluminum. The comb supporting is fixed with the truss;

the comb plate is fixed on the supporting plate by screws. There exists a certain gap of mesh

between the teeth of the comb and the teeth of step. When there is a foreign body blocking

into, the comb support move backward, then the switch will be activated to stop the escalator.

1.9 Steps chains tension system

‹ The steps chain tension system is located at lower section; it is composed of lower section

tension plate 1, tension shaft 4 (with steel rollers and bearing), compressing spring 2, safety

switch 3, etc. The lower section tension plate 1 is fixed on the truss by the supporting plates.

The tension pulley takes the lower section tension plate 1 running on the direction forward or

backward, so that the steps chain is tension. When the steps chain is broken, the switch is

activated to stop the escalator.

1.10 Handrail tension system

‹ The handrail is moved by the rubber tier on the friction wheel. The appropriate tension of the

handrail can be achieved by adjusting nut on the tension rod. In addition, by modifying the

pressure roller against the handrail, one can increase or decrease the friction between the

friction wheel and the handrail. The handrail moves in the same direction of movement of the

step.

‹ The handrail moves in the same direction of movement of the steps. The permitted value of

the difference in speed between the two is within the range 0~+2%.

1.11Automatic lubrication(optional function)

‹ It’s optional to use automatic lubrication system to supply oil to the steps chains, drive chain

and handrail drive chain timely in order to improve the performance and prolong their lives.

‹ Automatic lubrication system will supply oil to the escalator when all the integrating time is

not less than 167 hours on operation. It spends 72s to supply oil to the drive chains time after

time.

Summary Contents.
Frequency If the escalator works normally, it is about 3 months between two
times lubrication.
Note 1) The oil number must be same as the original one in the oil box.
Otherwise, the oil in the box must be cleaned completely.
2) More or less oil adding to the parts is harmful. So readjusting
the quantity is avoided.
3) when testing the automatic lubrication, the oil pumps works
continuously no more than 12 minutes.

1.13 Step reversing fences

Warning !

‹ The fence is fixed at the end of step reversing point in the machine room and

promotes its safe protection.

‹ The power must be cut if it needs to disassemble the step reversing fence on the

maintenance.

2. Electric control system and safety equipment


Summary Contents
Consist of The electric control system of the escalator applies a new type of PLC control device or the
the electric micro-computer control device.
control It is composed of top machine room control box (UCB),bottom machine room control box
system (DCB), lighting device (handrail lighting or skirting lighting), overhaul switch, safety switch,
monitoring equipment and connecting cables etc.
Top and The “UCB” box is installed in the top machine room on the frame, in order to control main
bottom circuit. The PLC computer in the “UCB” box carries programmed control of the escalator. In
machine addition, it carries out monitoring all safety switches, handrail speed (optional function), and
room motor speed. In addition, the “UCB” and “DCB” box provides a 220V and 36V outlet socket,
and an emergency stop button on the maintenance panel. On the left skirting or the entrance
device, near the upper and lower landing of the escalator, there are a directional selection
switch and a stop button.
Safety To ensure the safety of the escalator, it is fitted with 17 safety switches in accordance with the
switches EN115 standard (when a vertical drive unit is used,):
4 upper and down comb contacts, 1 driving chain broken contact (when the drive devices is
double ,this contacts are two), 2 steps chain broken contacts, 4 upper and down handrail entry
contacts, 2 steps sag contacts, 4 skirting contacts

Fault display 1)、LED fault display
(optional If there is abnormal status on operation of escalator, one number of 1-9 or A-E will indicate on
function) the display screen on the upper end section of outer decking. That means there are problem
of one section of fault display schedule. After eliminating this problem, it indicates nothing on
display screen. It is convenient for testing and maintenance.
2)、LCD running-state monitor
Main functions:
(1) System monitoring :
Observe the state of escalator by LCD, as follows:
a) Displaying of running-state, protection info or others
b) Displaying of running hours and running times
(2) Information searching:
It can search type of the protection info and the occurrence time, while protection happened, it
can also search the total running-hours and the current running-hours.

The elaborate contents can be seen from the instruction principle of electric control

system.

3.Items and period of maintenance

3.1Safety operation and usage of the escalator


No Contents
1 Before operating the escalator, check whether there is any foreign object at the positions
where comb plate locate at both upper and bottom of the escalator.
2 The escalator must be operated by competent or special trained personnel, and be started
under free loads.
3 Standing on the running escalator, passenger must face to the traveling direction, his two feet
must be in the yellow line mark, and one of his hands must be on the handrail.
4 Small children must be held firmly by an adult while taking the escalator.
5 Bare-footed is not permitted to take on the escalator. Transportation of bulky and heavy loads
is not permitted.
6 Use key operating the escalator, if the escalator can’t run, check whether the power switch is
on or not, whether the main switch and maintenance lock on control box are on normal running
position or not. The escalator cannot run yet even if everything is OK, usage of the escalator is
not permitted before a careful and full checking.
7 Where building obstacles can cause injuries, appropriate preventive measures shall be taken,
to prevent collision, the outer edge of the handrail and walls or other obstacles shall under no
circumstances be less than 80mm. This distance shall be maintained to a height of at least
2.30m above the steps of the escalator. In particular, at floor intersections and on criss-cross
escalator, a vertical obstruction is not less than 0.3m in height, not presenting any sharp
cutting edges shall be placed above the balustrade decking, e.g. as an imperforate triangle. It
is not necessary to comply with these requirements when the distance between the centerline
of the handrail and any obstacle is equal to or greater than 0.5m.`
8 At the landing’s entrance of the escalator, a sufficient unrestricted area shall be available to
accommodate passengers. The width of the unrestricted area shall be at least correspond to
the distance between the handrail centerlines. The depth shall be at least 2.5m, measured
from the end of the balustrade. It is permissible to reduce it to 2.0m if the width of unrestricted
area is increased to at least double the distance between the handrail centerlines.
9 Sequence of operating the escalator: Check whether three phase mains is 380V or not and
whether earthed wire and neutral wire is right or not. Close main switch →connecting main
power and lighting power→connecting control circuit (220V) on main control box→turn key to
the direction where the escalator is to be→wait a moment and pull out key after the escalator
is running normally. While the escalator needs to be running in the reverse direction, stop the
escalator by pushing the red stop button at first, then turn key to the other direction after the
escalator has been stop absolutely.
10 Running check: while the escalator needs to have a checking or maintenance, insert the plug
on the maintenance device into the special maintenance socket on the control box. Then the
normal circuit had been cut, and the maintenance circuit has been connected. The escalator
can run while men operate the maintenance switch. After the check work has been finished,

the maintenance plug must be pulled out form the control box. Then the normal circuit is
connected and the maintenance circuit is cut. Then escalator turns to the normal condition.
11 If the escalator is not used for a long period, the main power should be cut, and the steps
chains, the handrail and the pressure belt should be loosen.
–––––Loose the steps chains: loose the compression spring via loosing the nut 3 on the
tension shaft; (see 4.8)
––––Loose the handrail: loose the nut5, nut 6 on the tension pole and nut 3 on the tension
support to loose the handrail; (see 4.15.1)
––––Loose the pressure roller: loose the spring via loosing the nut 2 on the pole. (see 4.15.2)
12 The steps chains, handrail and the pressure roller should be tightened when the escalator is
reused after been not used for a long period, and all of the safety switches should be checked
carefully, such as the handrail entrance device, the combing contact, etc.

3.2 Item and period of maintenance

Precaution item during maintenance:

Notice !

‹ A warning board written of “Keep off, the escalator on maintenance” must be erected at the

entrance of the escalator

‹ Use maintenance switch to run the escalator during maintenance.

‹ Starting the escalator is not permitted absolutely, when man stands on the disassembled

steps.

‹ Take a clean work after maintenance, and sure that there is not any tool lost in the escalator.

3.2.2 Contents and method of checking:


Contents Method
Cleaning 1、Clean the upper and bottom machine room;
2、Clean the surface of the tracks and pay attention to the
safety in cleaning;
3、Clean the steps.

4.1Move the movable decking

‹ While the face of movable decking is stainless steel, insert a special key into the decking,

then lift the decking and pull it out at last.

4.2 Disassembling the steps

Notice !

‹ Disassembling the steps must be in the lower machine room. Operate the escalator with the

maintenance handle until the auxiliary roll of the steps is at the jag of the swerving wall, and

then loosing the clamping screws, push the clamping ring and sleeve of shaft to the

inner-place. Rotate and lift the steps, its auxiliary rolls can go through the jag. Mark on the

step before taking them out for facilitating reassembling them(see diagram 4-2)

‹ Add yellow paint on the three neighboring steps (yellow is on middle of step and

length is about 300mm). And when maintenance the escalator, please disassembling

the step with yellow paint and make sure the fixed states of steps.

‹ Mark on the steps and main step shaft before disassembling the steps for facilitating

reassembling them

‹ Notes of reassembling steps: Assemble step at the reverse sequence of disassembling

step. Before fasten clamping screws, align the mark on step to the middle of the shaft. Run

escalator downward slowly, and after fastening clamping screws. At the same time, check the

mesh depth of combs into the grooves of the tread and adjust till it meets standard

4.3 Check combing plate

‹ The combing plate has a break point of strength against serious damage of the escalator for

passenger’s safety, changing broken combing plate in due course is necessary.

‹ Loosen fixing screws, take out the damaged combing plate, and change it to a new one. In

the reverse sequence of disassembling combing plate.

‹ While step is running between the guide rollers (3), if there is noise of friction, that mean the

positions of guide rollers are not correct.

‹ Adjust the positions of guide rollers. Make sure that the clearance between the step and

guide rollers is 0.2~0.4mm.

4.5 Disassembling the outer decking

‹ The outer decking 1 are inserted into the clamping profile 4, and its joints are connected by

joint plate 3, and it is connected to the metallic frame via support plates.

‹ Method of disassembling outer decking: Loosen all bolts 2, pull the joints plate 3 out, and

then take away the outer decking.

4.8 Steps chain

‹ Check the steps chain in the bottom machine room, the tension of steps chain must be in

accordance with each other.

‹ Tension the steps chain of the escalator, and the length L of the compressing spring is about

150~160mm.

‹ When adjusting the compressing spring, if there is noise of striking in the bottom machine

room, that means the compressing spring is too loosen, then take a appropriate adjustment.

At the same time, check whether the steps are moving in line and entering the combing plate

smoothly. If not, adjust by compressing or loosing the compressing spring a little at one side.

4.9 Check the handrail drive chain

Notice !

‹ On the upper section of the escalator, disassemble three adjacent steps and turn the hollow

to the front of upper combing plates, check the handrail drive chain.

‹ Under free load, the sag of loosing side of handrail drive chain is about 10~15mm,if not,

adjust it to meet the figure.

‹ During adjusting, if the sag of one side is too much, make that the sag is about in accordance

with each other via winding the hand-wheel, and then adjust the chain. The end, measure the

lolling each other.

‹ During adjusting, it must be synchronous of both sides.

4.10 Drive chain

‹ Under free load, the lolling of the loosing side of drive chain shall be 10~15mm,whenever it

is too loosen or too tighten, take a adjustment.

‹ Use a brush or oil can to lubricate drive chain links. Oil number:Mobil SHC 627 or Shell

Omala Oil 100.

0.4mm. If there is serious abrasion, please change it to a new one at once.

‹ Lubrication the shaft sleeve of step with geese usually. The point of lubrication is shown in

the following diagram.

‹ The gap between step and skirting shall not exceed 4mm at each side, and 7mm for the sum

of gaps measured at both sides at two directly opposite points.

‹ While the escalator running, the main drive shaft must operate normally without unusual

noise.

‹ The normal position of lubrication is shown as the following diagram. When lubricating the

bearing of main drive shaft, exchanging the screw 2 and oiling bolt 3 and then lubricate them.

‹ Lubricate the bearing of main drive shaft with oil. Add oil with gun through the bolt 1 and 3.

4.13 Check handrail drive shaft

‹ While the escalator running, the handrail drive shaft must work normally without unusual

noise.

‹ Lubricate the bearing for handrail drive shaft with oil. For it is a bearing with lid, add oil with

an oil gun.

4.15 Check tension of handrail

4.15.1 Tension of handrail

‹ For the material of handrail is different, the precise figure cannot be provided, the following

suggestion is instructive:

‹ The sag of handrail between handrail support rollers spaced 1200mm is about 5~10mm.

While the handrail running upward, the handrail cannot be lift up off handrail guide rail.

‹ Loose handrail after the escalator has been stopped two months.

4.15.3 Clean the handrail

Method of cleaning dirty handrail is as following:(clean handrail after assembling handrail):

‹ Use handrail cleaning solution for a detergent to dampen a cloth, and rub on the surface of

the handrail. Continue polishing with a dry cloth until the handrail gleams. Afterwards use a

soft cloth to re-polish the handrail.

‹ To the heavy dirty place, we will use a special detergent mixed by detergent 250 and cleaner

oil 150.

Warming !

‹ No matter what condition, gasoline or solvents containing gasoline are not allowed,

talcum is forbidden.

4.15.4 Handrail speed monitors (optional function)

‹ If the handrail speeds is over or lower beyond permitted range, it is dangerous. In theory, the

speeds of handrail and step are same. The handrail moving at a speed tolerance of 0% to

2% of the speed of step is permitted in EN115.

‹ The handrail speed monitor has the function of monitoring handrail speed. It is installed at the

lower end truss. While handrail is over speed limitation or broken, the handrail monitor will

transmit the information to control box and stop escalator at once.

‹ Notice: It is strictly prohibited to break sensor of the handrail speed monitor. The

distance L between sensor 3 and bolt 4 on monitor roller 2 is about 2mm

4.16 End reversing chain

‹ One of the ends of end reversing chain is fixed by a pin, and the other end is fixed on another

pin via a set of springs 4. All the pins are fitted on the handrail supports.

‹ While the handrail running normally, there is no noise. If the abrasion of end handrail

reversing chain is great, there is noise. Then change it with a new one. Disassemble the pins

and springs and move the reversing chain out. Put another reversing chain on and do in the

reversing sequences.

‹ If the dry thing is too much, take them away.

4.17 Check electric system

‹ In general, contacts and relay and transformer and so on, those electronic components need

not to be maintained. If found any fault, change to a new one at once. Short of any safety switch is

not permitted.

4.18 Safety switch

4.18.1 Check broken chain contact

‹ At the end of the steps tension device, there is a safety contact at each side monitoring its

working condition. If the steps chains meet barrier or break, these contacts will work and stop

the escalator.

‹ Adjusting position of contact:Adjust position of baffle of switch to make a gap less than

0.5mm between baffle and contact.(see diagram 4-17)

4.18.2 Check skirting contact

‹ The four skirting contacts locate at the outside of upper and lower curved skirting. When

there is any foreign object between skirting and step, it can cause their working to stop

escalator.

‹ Method of adjusting position of skirting contact (see following diagram 4-19):

‹ Step sag contacts locate at the upper and lower end of inclined part of the escalator. While

steps rotates or sags, the screwed poles 2 rotate and turn the switch pole 3 rotate and make

contact 5 to stop the escalator.

Method of checking and adjusting:

‹ Move the space (formed by disassembling three adjacent steps) to the locations of contacts.

‹ Check whether the gap between end of screwed pole 2 and steps 1 is 3+10mm.

‹ Rotate the hexagon pole 3. It can rotate agilely and make contact working.

‹ Add a little oil at the baffle of contact 4.

‹ The drive chain broken contact is fixed on a support, which is connected with truss. There is

an arm, which can rotate up and down, hanging out and lay on steps chain.

‹ While step chain is broken, the arm will drip down and make safety contact working and the

escalator stopping.

Method of checking:

‹ Check whether the arm can rotate up and down freely.

‹ Check whether the contact is working orderly.

‹ Lubricate axle of rotating arm.

‹ When the under side of drive chain is loose, the gap between the plate and safety contact is

more than 10mm, and check whether it is working orderly when steps chain is broken.

4.18.5 Check comb contact

‹ There is a comb contact 4 located at the each side of back of comb 2. When any foreign

object inserts combs, steps run backward, and turn pole 13 running, and those contacts will

work to make the escalator stop (see diagram 4-3).

‹ Adjusting nut 12;

‹ Make sure that the length L of compressing spring is about 48mm;;

‹ Fasten nut 12.

4.18.6 Check handrail entry device

‹ The handrail entrance device is composed of entrance plate, handrail protective block, spring,

and contact etc

‹ When any foreign objects insert into the handrail entrance device, the handrail protective

block 2 will move backward to compress spring 3 and make safety contact 4 working and

then the escalator will stop.

Method of checking;

‹ Push the handrail protective block 2 lightly to make spring 3 compressing and contact 4

working. If the handrail protective blocks do not work freely, check whether there is foreign

object in it or the spring is not working orderly.

‹ The position of the protective block can be adjusted via the support 5.

4.19 Reversal-proof function

‹ First, cut the power when the escalator or passenger conveyor changes the direction of

running, and stop the escalator or passenger conveyor. Second, stop the escalator or passenger

conveyor before the speed of escalator exceeds 1.2 times of rated speed and cut the power of

escalator or passenger conveyor by motor monitor system. The motor monitor system tests the

change of speed of escalator or passenger conveyor on the regulated direction and functions

when escalator or passenger conveyor reverses the regulated direction.

4.20 Auxiliary brake

‹ The auxiliary brake is equipped on the main shaft, among the double sprocket 7. When the

brake acts caused by drive chain broken or other event, the block 2 turn inside via the pole to lock

brake baffle 4 on the brake dish 5. The brake grate 3 on the brake dish 5 releases outward via the

brake spring 6 to lock the double sprocket 7 and stop the main shaft 8.

Notice !

‹ When the drive chain is broken or its speed is beyond the standard or it is reversal, the

auxiliary brakes act to stop the escalator.

‹ If the equipment include auxiliary safety device, then the device must be checked

timely, avoiding out of action because of rust. The inspection must be done every 3

months! Take the power off when checking the brake.

‹ The spring is adjusted already before delivery.

‹ When resetting the brake, please cut the main power and hand-wheel running in up

direction at first. And then get the power; reset the brake on the normal position. Pay

attention to adjusting the installing seat to the normal position.

NRS Indication as following:

‹ If the steps or handrail reverses the direction on the abnormal operation, NRS function is

used to check escalator’s reverse and feedback the signal to stop escalator.

‹ NRS setting is made up of 2 parts, one is a plate like left which is equipped in one side of

motor( When motor runs, the plate circles of center); another is NRS switch ( OMRON

D4MC-3030), it acts in two direction of machinery (in down direction and in up direction) and acts

a single direction of electric (in down direction).

‹ Since it is impossible when escalator or passenger conveyor reverses when it’s in down

direction, NRS function acts when escalator or passenger conveyor is in up direction.

‹ Function:Exchanging the nc and no signal of NRS in down direction, but this NRS signal is

unprocessed by the procedure. Up direction, that the signal is nc is right; The escalator reverses

when the signal of nc change to no, Then NRS acts, the power is cut to stop escalator, and

electromagnet is pulled in, meanwhile, brake is sprung back, then to stop the dish.

4.21 Maintenance drive unit

‹ Check oil level of gearbox

Man should often check the oil level ruler. Add same oil if the oil level is lower than the mark (oil

brand: ISO460 (VERTICAL GEAR)). When it works 1500h, please exchange oil of the first time.

And after that exchange oil for interval 20000h.

‹ If man does not know the brand of lubricant or is not sure. Clean all lubricant (work with oil

cleaner).

‹ Maintenance of motor

Keep cleanness of the body of motor and lids of fans against dust going into motor and hurt its

cooling system. Its protective rate has to be tested by professional and it can be used after their

confirmation. Otherwise, the motor must be changed to a new one. (Note:If the type of the motors

are different, the vent and inlet are different too. See the following diagram 4-24).

‹ Maintenance of sealing ring

While man is changing the radial sealing ring, lubricate oil on the edge of sealing ring. In addition,

the sealing ring must be vertical to axle (against damaging the edge of ring)

1. Preparation before installation

2. Lifting and shipping of escalator

Abstract: The escalator assembled in factory can be transported to site in whole units or
sectionalized.

Notice:

‹ When re-checking the construction dimension,the height of the span must be coincide with

the construction layout drawing. The owners offer the nominal height, so that we can

calculate the thick of the steel. The sides are lower 5-10mm than the ground which has

been decorated, and then adjust them freely.

‹ When rejoin the escalator, attention must be paid to the combination sign writing on the

truss coincident.

2.1 Joining the truss

1 When joining, the two pieces of metallic frame should be drawn close slowly
avoid collision of the guide rails.
2 Fix the neighboring metallic frame pieces with the auxiliary technique pin which
is inserted into the position of pin.
3 Insert two M24 and five M16 high-strength bolts and fast the spring washers and
flat washes and nuts.
4 Fetch down the auxiliary technique pin, and assemble the pin to location.
5 Combination of high-strength bolts with dynamoelectric wrench。
Notice:torque of bolt:M16 bolt is 85±5Nm;
M24 bolt is 287±5Nm。

2.2 Lifting and shipping

2.2.1 Steps and method

‹ When lifting the escalator, the hitch positions can only be located at the lifting

devices on two edges and the sectionalized positions of the escalator Collision of the

Notice:

‹ The route of transportation of the escalator has to be kept always unblocked and clean.

The dimensions of height and width along the route shall meet requirements.

‹ The loading capabilities of ground and temporary cover-plates shall meet requirements and

shall be reinforced if necessary. Predetermined auxiliary materials shall be ready.

‹ The completed and uneven floor shall be covered with plank.

‹ The hitch positions of the escalator shall be provided with specified loading capability and

shall be located at correct position.

‹ The loading capability of floor must be assure.

‹ Concerning pedestal of escalator frame, loading requirements specified in construction

layout drawing should be ensured to be satisfied.

‹ Pedestal surface should be even, clean and level.

2.2.2 Lifting the escalator

‹ Pay attention to the upper and down direction and the installation sequence of the

escalator.

‹ Safety precautions and working plan must be ready.

2.2.2.1 In case of floor cover and the fixed hitch existence, the down-lift procedures of the

escalator are shown as the diagram below. (When lift the escalator in the whole units)

2.3 Adjusting the level of the escalator

‹ After lifting and position the escalator, adjust the escalator again on the base of adjustment

that has been done on the lifting section.

‹ After positioning of escalator, metal truss is adjusted to level position by adjusting bolt of

supporting angle steel.

Notice of adjusting:

‹ The levelness of metallic frame can be measured either with bubble spirit level placed on

the rear side of comb plate, or with transit.

‹ During adjustment, the middle four screws should be loosened temporarily and the

escalator will be adjusted to level with the two screws at both sides.

‹ Then the middle four screws should be tightened until they touch the supporting steel plate

(see the following diagram).

‹ When transit is used, put its scale perpendicular to the rear side of comb plate and adjust

the level of metallic frame to specified range, and this is the first adjustment.

‹ Adjust the levelness of the escalator on the line section of truss.

‹ After tension of steps chain, there is an extractive adjustment in the standard of the first

level step of upper and down ends.

‹ If readjustment of height and other distances is needed, it should be performed on the

condition that above-mentioned levelness is maintained.

Notice:

‹ When the escalator is transported to the site sectionalized, cable is laid on the upper

escalator. After rejoining all metal truss together, loose cable and send them to

bottom machine room control box along the truss and fix them, and insert the plug

into the sockets on the bottom machine control room according to indication mark.

‹ More and more than two parataxis escalator, the ends of upper and down metal truss

align when position, the gap of outer decking is coincident with construction layout

drawing. If not, negotiation should be carried out with the owner in advance and

guarantee the gap is coincident.

‹ Lifting and position the escalator and make sure that the distance between the angle

steel 1 and layout beam 4 is about 40mm.(see diagram 2-5).

2.4 The intermediate support of the escalator (if have)

‹ Intermediate support is required in case of horizontal distance over 15m. Please contact

us.

‹ If the escalator has intermediate support, it can enforce the strength and loading ability of

escalator

‹ Adjust the intermediate support after lifting and position the metallic frames.

‹ The intermediate supports connect with the truss via the bolts 4, and adjust it by nut 2 and

bolt 3.

‹ When the escalator has the antisimic supports, the intermediate support should be

welded on site. And must meet the requirement of construction layout drawing.

‹ After positioning of the escalator, rejoin the disassemble guide rail and steps chain.

Method of assembling:

1 Connect the guide rail with connecting plate and bolt.
Notice:If the joint is uneven, it should be filed to smooth, it demands the
gap is 0.2/500mm by rulers
2 Joining steps chain:Install the main shaft and shaft sleeve of step and
clamping ring on the step chain via spring pin connect the broken chain with

4. Assembling handrail system

Abstract:The clamp seats of balustrade have been adjusted in factory, and the clamp profiles
have been connected with the clamp seats by bolts, so the clamp profiles need not

to be adjusted. All the clamping seats are welded to truss and they are sites of other

assembling

Adjustment of lower curved end glass panel:

‹ Guarantee that the rectangle side of the curved glass panel is perpendicular to the

clamp panel with a rectangle ruler or eyes;

‹ If necessary, the glass panel can be adjusted a few millimeters by rising the

front edge or the rear edge of it;



‹ Tighten clamp seat and tighten all screws on the clamps. Don t screw down clamp

seat nut on the joint of the either of glass panel;

‹ Check with angle ruler 3 whether the glass panel is vertical. (If necessary, insert

pads between glass panel and clamp profile.)

‹ Mount 2 U-type rubber pads on joint edge of the panel to protect panels from

damage. These rubber pads automatically provide the 2mm gap between the panels. The

rubber pads can be cut from U-type which can be transported to site following escalator.

And the length of each rubber pad is about 20mm.

4.1.2 Assembling the second glass panel

Step and method:


Steps Methods
1 Put the center washer in the clamp profile at the clamp seats. At the joint position
of the panels, there must be a pad under each panel
2 Lay the glass panel in the clamp profile vertically with a suction pick-up and move it
near the glass panel pre-mounted.
3 Fasten one of the clamp seats that are about at the position of the middle parts of
the balustrade.
4 Check whether the glass panels are vertical or not. ( If necessary, insert pads as
described in 4.1.1)
5 Fit 2 rubber pads at the joint panels.

‹ Remain panels are mounted as described in 4.1.2.

‹ The gap between the glass panels is no more than 4mm. And guarantee the gap in

upper and lower coincident.

‹ Keep a constant check whether the gap between two panels is vertical to the

clamping profile and parallel. When all the panels are mounted, clamp the remaining

clamp seats;

‹ Tightening torque: MA=35-40Nm (for clamp seats on the line section)

MA=15-20Nm (for clamp seats on the head section)

‹ After assembling all the glass panels, please fasten the head end section of two

ends at first and then adjust the panels on the middle of the truss upward and

downward. But guarantee that the transition of the neighboring panels is equal and

then fasten all the clamping seats.

4.2.2 Assembling handrail guide rail


Steps Methods.
1. Assemblies of the lower curved end section at reversing
Assemble the lower part station and the upper curved end section at the drive
of the curved end section station.
2. Using clamping tool, clamp the double-faced mucus to
the glass panel in the front of the end clamp seat firmly;
3. First, as described in detail I, insert the link block 1 into
the guide profile, fix the screw 2 and nut 3, and then fix
the screw 4 and nut 5 as described in detail II.
4. Knock handrail guide rail with rubber-hammer or
wooden-hammer slightly, guarantee them mounted onto
the glass panels, and then fasten the bolts. (see diagram
4-4)
Lower curved section 1. Stick the double-faced mucus to the glass panel.
2. Position the curved section vertically on the glass panel
correctly, and join it with the curved end section already
mounted.(see diagramⅠof 4-4)Insert the link block 1 in
the guide and fix screw 2 and nut 3;
The straight section 1. Stick the double-faced mucus to the glass panels.
2. Mount the entire straight section on, and tap them with
rubber hammer or wooden hammer, ensure that the
guides are just lying on the glass panels.

‹ The length of any double-faced mucus is 200mm; connect the neighboring glass panels by

make sure that the gap of neighboring pieces is equal.

‹ The transition position of two-balustrade support profile must be smooth and ridge-free. If

not, make flat by slipper. The gap between handrail guide rails is no more than 0.5mm. If

necessary, adjusting the head handrail guide rail slightly.

‹ In order to ensure that the straight part is guided parallels with the glass panel, please do

not knock or twist the guide. Check whether it is sitting correctly along its length.

4.3 Assembling handrail

4.3.1 Handrail feature

‹ Since the handrail is consists of one-piece continuous rubber section mixed with steel

ropes manufactured specifically for the passenger conveyor, its strength is high and so it is

suitable for a high tension

4.3.2 Cleaning of the handrail

Dirty or unsightly handrails should be cleaned as fellows:

‹ Use a cloth soaked in water with a litter washer-up detergent (do not use washing powder)

rub the top of the handrail vigorously. Heavily soiled areas should be rubbed repeatedly

until the handrail shines again when wiped down with a dry cloth.

‹ To heavy dirty place, we will use a special detergent mixed by detergent 250 and cleaner

oil 150.

‹ No matter what condition, gasoline or solvents containing gasoline are not allowed, talcum

is forbidden.

4.3.3 Assembling handrail

‹ The handrails are already pre-mounted and pre-adjusted in factory; they are delivered

without completely dismounted.

‹ To the multi-pieces escalator, the handrails are always circled in the upper piece; they are

expanded as lower diagram after the joint of the multi-pieces. Lay the handrails on the

guide rollers between balustrade and skirting.

‹ Check whether the handrail is sitting properly all the way around. If not, adjust the handrail

immediately.

4.3.6.7 Check downward travel

‹ When the second adjustment procedure in the upward direction is completed, the direction

of travel is again reversed and the adjustment of the first procedure checked

‹ If the lateral play in the handrail is still too great, further adjustment should be made again

as described.

‹ Good handrail travel indicators:1)、Minimum lateral movement on change of direction;2)、

No lateral pressure as it runs onto friction wheel;3)、Runs centrally in the middle of the

balustrade reversing chain.

4.3.6.8 After-check

‹ After 20 hours operation, the adjustment should be checked again. Slighted

position-adjustment may be necessary after running in this period. These should be done

as described.

‹ Particular attention must be paid to the exact fit of the joints. Sure that there is no gap on

joint;

‹ Ensure that the transitions always clean and free of ridges,the ridge is less than 0.2 mm,

the gap is no more than 0.3mm。

‹ If necessary, sections can be tapped into propriety position with a rubber mallet.

‹ Ensure that the joint between sections is properly interlocked.

‹ Install the inner piece use the bolt, be sure fit the head skirting. Connect the outer piece

support 2. Connect the outer piece with the outer decking by bolts.

6. Testing of the escalator

Abstract: Before testing the escalator, pay attention to the safety items.

Steps Contents
1 Pay attention to the protective works on site, a warning board should be erected
around the escalator entrances. And there is no other installation company.
2 Clean the construction site, clean the dirty from the surface and cove of steps,
and disassemble the comb.(assembling re-cleaned steps when checking in
downward direction).
3 Because of UV380v on working, pay highly attention to the safety operation;
Before connecting the power, checking whether the preliminary works is
sufficiency.
4 Check the junction, the installation and junction of electronic components on
control box and maintenance box according to relevant drawings and if they are
coincident with the type of control box and operation requirement. Check the
installation of the electronic components on control box and maintenance box
and the quality of wiring meet requirement or not. Check whether the power is
short or not. All electronic components must be safe and avoid accident.
5 There is a maintenance socket on bottom and upper ground floor. When running
on maintenance, a maintenance socket is jumped out.
6 All power switches are on the position of OFF before the power is connected.
Check voltage after power is connected. If it is normal, connecting the main
switch, checking voltage of other switches.
7 Check the sag of drive chain between the drive unit and drive shaft. In general,
the sag has been readjusted in factory. The lolling of loosen side is 10-15mm on
the position of adjusting justly.
8 Motor has been pre-lubricated in factory. And check the oil level. And check
whether the drive chains need to be lubricated.
9 Check the tension of drive chain and steps chain broken device, and adjust the
switches.

‹ Operate the escalator by adjustor himself when testing the escalator.

‹ Make sure that the main power and the emergency stop switches have been cut when

7. Assembling the movable decking

Abstract : The escalator has been installed in the finished building in level, so guarantee the

movable decking in level. The front piece lies behind the comb plate, guarantee that the

gap between them is 6mm, this must be guaranteed, otherwise distance that comb

centered set moves back when something strange in it will be influenced.

Steps Methods
1 Check the levelness of the decking between comb plate and building with a level
gauge.
2 Stick it to the frame of the movable decking with rubber strip and screw special
bolts (for open the decking use) in the decking
3 Fit it in position, then screw the bolts out, at last screw the bolts of the decking in
the decking
4 Through adjusting the height of bolt 7 and 8, we can adjust the level about movable
decking and building floor. (See detail diagram 7-1)
5 After adjusting, fasten the bolts of the supporting angle firmly

1.1Assembling outside cladding

‹ Outside cladding has been pre-mounted in factory, and then assembling the outside cladding

in sequence according to the label struck to them on site.

‹ The installation manual is as follows, such as the escalator is transported to site with two

sections.

1) Assembling the outside cladding 3 and 4 and 5 neighboring the joint of the escalator.

2) Assembling the outside cladding 1 and 7 of the straight section.

‹ Assembling outside cladding 3: insert one side of outside cladding 3 into the cladding 2, and

then connect the support on cladding 3 to the truss with rivet.

1.1.2Assembling the straight outside cladding

‹ Insert the outside cladding 1 or 6 into the neighboring outside cladding, and then connect the

iron piece pre-welded on the other side of the outside cladding to the truss with rivets or weld

them together.

1.2Assembling the bottom cladding

‹ Outside cladding has been pre-mounted in factory, and then assembling the outside cladding

in sequence according to the label struck to them on site.

‹ Assembling the bottom cladding on the joint of the truss (Assembling the bottom cladding 6

and 7):

Connect the bottom cladding 6 and 7 together and insert them into the middle of the bottom

cladding 5 and 8. Pull them to the side of the escalator and insert the other side of the bottom

cladding into the fixing support and then adjust their position to the appointed position.

‹ Assembling the bottom cladding 4 and 3 and 2 and 1 and 10:

Insert the iron piece on the bottom cladding 4 into the bottom cladding 5 and then fix the

bottom cladding to the supporting strip pre-welded on the truss with rivets. And then

assemble the other bottom cladding as described upper

1.3Assembling packing plate

‹ Outside cladding has been pre-mounted in factory, and then assembling the outside cladding

in sequence according to the label struck to them on site.

‹ Assembling the packing plate on the joint of the truss:

Assembling the packing plate 3: Insert the upper side of the packing plate 2 into the fixing

support and then push them inside and then pack the fixing support completely.

Assembling the packing plate on the upper and lower line section

‹ Insert the decorative packing plate into the fixing support on the truss and then push them and

guarantee that the plate is assembled well with the neighboring packing plate. And then fix

the plate on the truss with rivets.

‹ Notice: the actual length of the decorative packing plate is decided on site in order that the

plates assemble tightly.

1.4Assembling cover head plate and decorative angle steel and strip

‹ Assembling the decorative strip: push the decorative strip into the upper side of outside

cladding 1 and 2 (or 3 and 4) and then connect it with the outside cladding with rivets.

‹ Assembling the cover head plate and decorative angle steel: make the fold side of the cover

head plate faces upper and assemble it on the head of the truss and then assemble the

decorative angle steel. Fix them on the block pre-welded on the truss by rivets.

‹ If the escalator is transported to jobsite in sectionalized, the lighting profiles near the

neighboring metallic frame pieces are assembled on jobsite. Lighting profiles are

connected with skirting and inner decking plates by latch nuts and flat washers and

rivets.

‹ The skirting lighting is continuous lighting. As an optional function, it is convenient

and safety for passengers to ride the escalator. Skirting lighting is installed in the

skirting panel on both left and right sides.

‹ The sequence of assembling the skirting lighting:

a) Insert the lighting into the lighting profiles and connect up the wire of each lighting

tube;

b) Then insert the lower edge of lighting pieces into the gap between the lighting

profiles and skirting, arrange the lighting pieces from lower end to the upper end.

c) At last, connect the lighting profiles and the inner decking with rivets.

‹ All the lighting are in series, power cable is connected from the bottom machine

room.

‹ Power cable is connected from the bottom machine room.

1.2 Balustrade lighting

‹ When assembling the lighting cable, please make sure that the end of the lighting

cable across the connecting piece according to the drawing 3, and then fix the

connecting piece on the handrail entrance device on the top of the escalator( see

diagram1-2d);

‹ Assembling the lighting cable according to the road sketch of lighting cable of drawing

1 from the top to the bottom of escalator, the lighting cable insert into the pre-mounted

lighting supporting(see diagram1-2b);

‹ Assembling the lighting cable, can use the rubber hammer blocking the lighting cable

carefully, and pulling the lighting cable is forbidden;

‹ When assembling the lighting cable on the bottom of escalator, the assembling

method is the same as the assemble top. At last, fix the connecting piece on the

handrail entrance device;

‹ Remain of the lighting cable is on the bottom of escalator.

1.3 Skirting brushes

‹ It is fixed at left and right skirting panel to cover the gap between steps and skirting in

order to avoid possible risk caused by the gap.

‹ The skirting brushes are inserted into the clamping shape steel pre-mounted on the

skirting by rivet.

‹ The skirting brushes guarantee the passengers must stand near the middle of the

step of the escalator and guarantee the passengers safety.

1.4 Truss Heating System

‹ It is fixed in the truss among all service steps to avoid freezing caused by rain and

snow. It shall be equipped for outdoor installation in cause of temperature

circumstance below zero.

1.6 Step missing device

‹ Two sensors are fixed at upper/lower return sections to receive pulse signals from

steps passing and stop escalator before missing step entering comb plate in case of

step missing.

1.7 Step gap illumination

‹ Special green laps in the form of fluorescent tubes, mounted on both the top and

bottom of the escalator, make the individual steps clearly discernible and

distinguishable, especially at the horizontal runs.

‹ Boarding the escalator is therefore made much easier for the young, elderly and

inexperienced persons.

‹ Separate the oil and water because of the different density so that it can protect the

environment.

‹ The oil and water can pour out along the direction of arrowhead.

1.9 Countermeasure for Inundation of Lower Pit

‹ Install float switch in the lower machine room to perceive the water level; Float switch

is operated before step chain (sprocket) is soaked. If float switch is operated, stop the

operation of the escalator.

‹ The float switch support is welded on the truss, and guarantee the distance is 10mm.

1.Scope of PCS-200B system


1.1. Type:This instruction is only fit for PCS-200B escalator and passenger conveyor made in
SJEC.

2.General Structure Instruction


2.1 Upper Machine Room
Upper machine room lying in the top of Escalator is to lay drive devices and control devices.
The general electric parts in PCS-200B control system are as follows:

) Standard Features
 Upper Control Box [UCB]:
It is the control system center of the whole escalator or conveyor, all the control and
drive signals are sent out from here.
 Drive motor [MT]:
It is 6 poles , 3 phases asynchronous motor, its voltage range and frequency must
match with the power of your area.
 Brake electrical magnet [DZT-L]:
It is the brake device of escalator or conveyor. The voltage range and frequency can be
selected according to the local power .
 Motor speed monitor[PS]:
It is to monitor the speed of flywheel as well as to avoid reverse and will stop escalator in
case the speed is over 120% of rated speed or under 80%.
 Brake monitor contact [SABO]:
It is to monitor if the brake has been opened before Motor starts.
 Comb plate contacts [KSZS], [KSYS]:
It has two contacts, left and right. If there are some foreign objects caught between the
comb plates and the steps, the resulting pressing will let one of the contact act and stop
the escalator or conveyor.
 Tread monitor switch [KST]:
Located at the beginning of the transitions curve in the inclined sections of the conveyor, it
is to monitor if any of the treads dropped or lowered. It is connected in series in the safety
circuit.
Note:Escalator doesn’t have this switch

) Optional Features
 The Drive Motor Ⅱ [MTF], The Brake electrical maget Ⅱ [DZT-LF], The
Brake Monitor Contact Ⅱ [SABF], The Drive-Chain Monitor Contact Ⅱ
[KQLZ]:
It is necessary to add these electric parts if the escalator or conveyor adopts double drive
motor.
 Drive chain contact [KQLY]:
This contact monitors the tension degree of drive chain. If it is broken, the contact will
stop the escalator or conveyor. Its action also can be used to make safety brake device
spring.
 Automatic Lubrication System [MJ]
This device can provide adequate lubrication for all chains automatically or manually.
 Mobile cover-board contact [TBS]:
This contact can let the system change into inspection status automatically after the cover
board is unlocked.
2.2 Lower Machine Room
Lower machine room lying in bottom of Escalator is to place lower control box.
DuringPCS-200B control system, the general electric parts are as follows:

) Standard Features
 Down Control Box [DCB]:
It is like a change trains placed between main control box and all electric parts at the
bottom. It connects the electric-parts with the controller and supplies necessary inspection
interface.
 Lower Step-Chain Monitor Contacts [KXZY], [KXYY]:
Left and right contacts monitor the tension of two traction-chains. When they are broken,
the contacts connected in safety circuit in series will stop the escalator or conveyor.
 Lower Comb Plate Contacts [KXZS], [KXYS]:
There are two contacts, left and right. If there are some foreign objects caught between the
comb plates and the steps, the resulting pressing will cut one or two of the contacts and
stop the escalator or conveyor.
 Lower Tread Monitoring Switch [KXT]:
Located at the beginning of the transitions curve in the inclined sections of the conveyor,
the switch monitors all of the treads. If one is dropped or lowered, it will cut the safety
circuit.
Note:Escalator doesn’t have the switch。

 Inspection handle [INH]:
It is a special handle doing inspection operation for maintainer. The handle is current at
upper and lower machine room.
2.3 Main Body
It is the main body except upper machine room and lower machine room. It
includes operation function, inspection function, lighting and display function:

) Standard Features
 The key for direction [SA-S, SA-X]:
There are two self-reset tri-state (left, middle and right) keys at the top and bottom, which
can set the running direction of escalator or conveyor. It can be placed on skirting, inner
cover board, handrail board or auto-start pillars according to the type of escalator.
 Emergency stop buttons [STPS, STPX]:
Emergency stop buttons locating at both upper and lower of the escalator or conveyor are
used to switch off the power of the escalator or conveyor manually during emergencies or
normal conditions. It is self-reset and it may be located on skirting, inner cover board,
handrail board or auto-start pillars according to the type of escalator
Note:The buttons is necessary to install clear shuck and buzzer according to diverse
standard of different countries which can prevent fault operation.
 Step (Tread) sag contacts [KSW, KXW]:
Fixed at the start sections of both inclined upper and lower transition curves, it will be
acted to stop escalator in case step (including step roller) sags more than 3mm.They are

 Handrail entry contacts [KSZF, KSYF, KXZF, KXYF]:
There is a self-reset key near every handrail entry points (all 4 units). These keys can
detect whether there is any danger object wedged in handrail entry points then a switch
will act and turn off the Escalator or Conveyor.
 Skirting contacts [KSZW, KSYW, KXZW, KXYW]:
These contacts are installed at the transition curve of both the top and bottom of the
Escalator or Conveyor. If any object gets caught between the step and the skirting panel,
these contacts will act. They are all connected in series in safety circuit.
Note:This feature is optional for conveyor.
 Step gap lighting [LMPS, LMPX]:
Special green lamps in the form of fluorescent tubes, fixed on both the top and bottom of
the Escalator or Conveyor, make every step discernible, especially at the horizon.
Note:This feature is optional for conveyor.
 Comb lighting [LMPSZ, LMPSY, LMPXZ, LMPXY]
Located in the skirting on both sides of top and bottom of Escalator or Conveyor for
highlighting the entrance and exit of the moving steps.

) Option Features
 Handrail speed monitor [ZFS, YFS]:
In order to keep the speed of handrail and step running synchronously, both left and right
monitor sensors are located in handrail support and monitor the handrail speed at any
moment.
 Step Upthrust Contacts [KSFT, KXFT]:
They are fixed at upper/lower transition curves. If any step is upthrusting, the contacts will
stop the escalator or conveyor.
 Motor Thermal Resistor Protection [MHP]:
In order to ensure the motor thermal could not be too hot in a long time running. We
increase the MHP and connect in the safety circuit.
 Safety-Brake Magnet [DDL], Safety Brake Magnetic Contact [DDK]:
Fixed on main shaft, will be acted in case of drive-chain is broken or speed is over 120%
or the standard brake isn’t effected.
Note:As standard requirement, it shall be equipped for non-public service’s escalator
when rise height is over 6m; it is standard feature for public service escalator.
 Energy- saving switches [JNS, JNX]:
There are three kinds of auto-start mode in our company, auto-start by photocell sensors,
auto-start by trade pressure, auto-start by diffuse reflection; they all need to install two
key switches at both upper and lower of Escalator or Conveyor. The two switches are
used to change the running mode between normal and energy-saving mode. They may
be located on skirting board, inner cover board, handrail board or auto-start pillars, which
is according to the type of escalator.
 Monitor emission sensors [MS, MX] ,receiver sensors[NS, NX]:
Auto-start by photocell sensors, auto-start by trade pressure, auto-start by diffuse reflection
of our company are necessary to install a pair of passengers monitor sensors at both
upper and lower of Escalator or Conveyor. These sensors are to monitor the signal of entry
used to change running mode. They may also be located on inner cover board or
auto-start pillars according to the type of Escalator or Conveyor.
Note:Escalator or Conveyor don’t use sender when special sensor is adapted.
 Traffic Indicator Lights [LMS(G/T), LMX(G/T)]:
Auto-start by photocell sensors, auto-start by trade pressure and auto-restart mode of our
company are necessary to install traffic indicator lights at both upper and lower of
Escalator or Conveyor. These lights display
allow entry(a moving green arrow) or no entry(a red stick)

and indicate passengers to get on Escalator or Conveyor correctly. They may be located
on outer cover board, inner cover board, handrail board or auto-start pillars according to

the kind of Escalator or Conveyor.


 Buzzers [BUZS, BUZX]:
These buzzers located on both upper and lower of Escalator or Conveyor may output
warning sound in case of start, emergency, abnormity of handrail speed or reverse running.
They may be located on controller box or on auto-start pillars according to the functions of
Escalator or Conveyor. Before the escalator or Conveyor starts the buzzers will buzz 3
seconds. If malfunction happens, the buzzers will buzz until malfunction resolved.
 Photo-electricity auto-start pillars [PSZ, PSY, PXZ, PXY]:
It is necessary to install a pair of Photo-electricity auto-start pillars on both upper and
lower entries (the distance between these pillars and the comb intersection line should be
≥ 1.3m) if it is auto-start by photocell sensors mode. These pillars are used to install [MS,
MX, NS, NX], [LMS(G/T), LMX(G/T)], [BUZS, BUZX], [JNS, JNX], [SA-S, SA-X], [STPS,
STPX].
 Remote monitor[BMS]
This function can monitor four states of escalator and passenger conveyor, including
up,down,break-down,stop.In this function,we only provide the interface of that four switch
signals,and ,the display divice should be offered by user.

3.Control Instruction For Commissioning


This control system is an advanced blue print of Escalator or Conveyor, because it
not only supplies safe, credible and self-contained standard features, but supplies
plenty of optional features to fulfill every latent requirements of clients as well.

3.1 Standard Features


(1)、 Normal operation
PLC will be ready to work after switching on the power switch ZK (main switch), lighting switch
GFCI1, running switch GFCI2, RD1, RD2 and the safe relay JAQ attaches through a set of
safety contacts. Escalator runs upward: key switch SA-S at the entrance of Escalator shall be
turned to the upward direction, DZT-L opens, SABOL and SABOR contact activate. Y and U
attaches in the same time, main motor MT performs a star type running upward, after 1.5~2
seconds. Y detaches, △attaches , main motor MT will be in a normal △ running.

(2)、 Inspection operation


When Escalator needs inspection operation, please insert the plug of maintenance panel to
the inspection-socket of main controller of PC controller. Turn the emergency button on, push the
common button and up/dn button together; Escalator will make a sport running (main motor takes
the star mode running).
Note: To avoid wrong operation, you must make the stop button “open” status as soon as
you stop inspection operation.

(3)、 Upper and lower inspection interlocking protection


There are two inspection sockets in both upper machine room and lower machine room, SJEC
designed upper and lower inspection interlocking circuit to avoid both upper and lower
machine room do inspection operation at same time. If both two-inspection panels plugged
into inspection sockets, both of them have no effect.

(4)、 Contactor contacts adhere protection


The main circuit and brake circuit of this system have over two contacts connected in series.
In order to avoid making some trouble after contacts being adhered, PLC monitors all the
actions. If contactor adheres, escalator can’t start.
(5)、 Over-speed protect and abnormal reverse protect
PLC is monitoring the drive motor real-time by the signal of sensor, its function is to avoid
reverse and will stop escalator or conveyor if the speed is over ±20% of rated.

1、 Automatic timing lubrication: if the running time add up to 166.65 hours, the
control system provide adequate lubrication for all chains and will stop after 72 seconds.
2、 Manual lubrication: In condition of inspection operation, push the lubrication
locating in controller, you can lubricate to all chains and control the lubrication time
according to practice.

(9)、 Safety brake device


PLC is monitoring the tension degree of drive chain and the speed of Motor real-time, if
system occurs some malfunction as follows, the safety brake will act and stop escalator at
once.
1、 Motor speed is over 120% of rated speed.
2、 The drive chain is broken.
3、 The running direction is opposite to setting direction

(10)、 Handrail speed monitor


PLC is monitoring each handrail speed real-time, if one of the handrails is broken or
running speed is over ±15%, the system will force escalator to stop.

(11)、 Start buzzer


Before the escalator or conveyor starts, the buzzers buzz 3 seconds in order to warn
passengers.
Note:In standard feature, buzzers locate on both upper and lower control box.。

(12)、 Mobile cover board monitor


In order to ensure the safety of maintainers, the control system will enter inspection status
automatically after the cover board is unlock.

3.3 Option (Charge) Function——Auto-Start


It is necessary for energy saving mode to select auto-start system in some places where
peoples are often discontinuous. Users can select auto-start mode according to different
requirement,

(13)、Auto-start by photocell sensors


The escalator (conveyor) should be ON or OFF automatically with the use of photocell
sensors installed at the hairline stainless steel pillars, which are fixed at least 1.3m before the
comb intersection line. Direction indicators, control switches and buzzers will be integrated in
the same pillars.

[Normal Running ]:

Turn the energy-saving switch JNS(X)to “normal” status. Other operations are same as
standard feature.

[Auto-Start Running ]:

Turn the energy-saving switch JNS(X)to “saving” status and set a running direction, the
escalator remains stop if no one enters; Once PLC receives the entry signal, escalator will run
at rated speed automatically; then if there is no entry signal for some time during running,
escalator will stop automatically after remaining running a few seconds.
The traffic indicators installed at the pillars display “Allow Entry“ or “No Entry”, if passenger
enters the “No Entry” entrance, the buzzer will buzz to warn him and escalator or conveyor will
start to run 10 seconds in the setting direction.

(14)、Auto-Start By Trade Pressure


In this function, it is necessary to install a pair of pressure sensors under both upper and
lower trades, they monitor whether there is passenger entering. Direction indicators, control
switches and buzzers are installed at a different position according to different modes.
The control principle is same as Auto-start by photocell sensor’s system.

(15)、Auto-Start By Diffuse Reflection


In this function, it is necessary to install a pair of stainless steel bracket which is used for
placed photoelectricity sensor (transmit unit and receive unit) on both up and lower trades 在此
handrail entry safety device. According to its diffuse reflection function, detect the passenger at
the escalator (passenger conveyor) entry.
The control principle is same as Auto-start by photocell sensor’s system.
Adjust way:
1.Let one man stand to the inspect object station
2.Take the plus knob to the end of counter-clockwise
3.Spin knob slowly and clockwise, until red and green lamp both light

1. Summarization
Protection Information Collecting and Displaying System (PICDS) is specially designed for the
controllers of escalators or moving walks , which belonged to PCS-200 or PCS-200A system. In normal, it
can display the running-state of escalates or moving walks. When protection happened, it can keep the
protection info and current state, which should be provided to the maintenancer.
PICDS are composed of collecting system (FCMCB), displaying system (FMSDB) and digital operator
(DIGITAL OPERATOR).
Main functions:
(1) System monitoring : Observe the state of escalators and moving walks by LCD, as follows:
a) Displaying of running-state, protection info or others
b) Displaying of running hours and running times
(2) Information searching: It can search type of the protection info and the occurance time, while
protection happened, it can also search the total running-hours and the current running-hours.

Running Up Counter

Display the up-running times in normal. When escalators or moving walks begin to run up, it can be
added one automatically

Running Down Counter

Display the down-running times in normal. When escalators or moving walks begin to run down, it can
be added one automatically

Running time counter

Display the total running hours. When there is a running signal, the counter can be added one per
second; when there is no singal, it cann’t work until receive a new running signal, and then continue to
count.

Counter running time


Display the latest running hours. When the escalators or moving walks begin to run, it is resetted to zero
and begin to count; when stopped, the timer stop counting and keep the last number until next running.

Counter clearing

Clear the up-running counter, down-running counter, total running timer and current running timer.

Software version

Display software version number in this system

[Working principle]
Information collection board located in controller is in charge of collecting all the contacts status、PLC’s soft
faults (for example: Motor Speed Monitor、Handrail Speed Monitor) and running information, then
transferring them to LCD display as soon as it actives.

1. If X5 is off but X8~X23 is on, The display information is Thermal relay or Phase relay
or E-stop and Skirting contacts protection. This signal isn’t saved , if X5 is on ,it will
be normal.
2. If there are default , The protection information will always be saved until the
machine running again.
