PREFACE
All students learn theoretical subjects in their classroom, but as we are the management
students, apart from theoretical studies we need to get a deeper insight into the practical
aspects of those theories by working as a part of organization during our summer training.
Training is a period in which a student can apply his theoretical knowledge in practical
field. Basically, practical knowledge and theoretical knowledge have a very broad
difference. So this training has high importance as to know how both the aspects are
applied together. The study of management acquires most crucial position in the business
administration. In order to be successful, it is necessary to give priority to the
management in an organization. But it can’t be denied that the study of management
would be more educational, materialistic and even more interesting, if it is to be paired
with the work in organization as an employee. The training session helps to get details
about the working process in the organization. It has helped me to know about the
organizational management and discipline, which has its own importance. The training is
going to be a lifelong experience. Management in India is heading towards a better
profession as compared to other professions. The demand for professional managers is
increasing day by day. To achieve profession competence, manager ought to be fully
occupied with theory and practical exposure of management.

This Project Report has been completed in Partial fulfillment of my management Program,
B.B.M in the company AXIS BANK LTD. which is a leading Bank in Indian Market . The
objective of my project was to study Wholesale Banking Product Portfolio with special
3

INDUSTRY ITRODUCTION

Banking Industry

The banking industry is one of the most essential financial pillars of the financial sector,
and it is critical to the economy’s functioning. It is critical for a country’s economic
development that its trade, industrial, and farm funding needs are handled with greater
commitment and responsibility. As a result, a country’s progress is inextricably related to
the development of banking. In today’s economy, banks should be viewed as development
leaders rather than money merchants. They play a crucial role in deposit mobilization and
credit disbursement to many sectors of the economy.

Modern banking in India originated in the mid of 18th century. Among the first banks
were the Bank of Hindustan, which was established in 1770 and liquidated in 1829–32;
and the General Bank of India, established in 1786 but failed in 1791.

The largest and the oldest bank which is still in existence is the State Bank of India (SBI).
It originated and started working as the Bank of Calcutta in mid-June 1806. In 1809, it was
renamed as the Bank of Bengal.

10
The rapid transformation in the banking industry over the last decade has made the
industry stronger, cleaner, transparent, efficient, faster, disciplined and a lot more
competitive.

The Indian banking industry has recently witnessed the rollout of innovative banking
models like payments and small finance banks. In recent years India has also focused on
increasing its banking sector reach, through various schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Jan
Dhan Yojana and Post payment banks. Schemes like these coupled with major banking
sector reforms like digital payments, neo-banking, a rise of Indian NBFCs and fintech
have significantly enhanced India’s financial inclusion and helped fuel the credit cycle in
the country.

The Reserve Bank of India, India's central banking authority, was established in April
1935, but was nationalized on 1 January 1949 under the terms of the Reserve Bank of
India (Transfer to Public Ownership) Act, 1948.
In 1949, the Banking Regulation Act was enacted, which empowered the Reserve Bank of
India (RBI) to regulate, control, and inspect the banks in India.
The Banking Regulation Act also provided that no new bank or branch of an existing bank
could be opened without a license from the RBI, and no two banks could have common
directors.

11
Indian Banking Structure

Market Size

12
The Indian banking system consists of 12 public sector banks, 22 private sector banks, 46
foreign banks, 56 regional rural banks, 1485 urban cooperative banks and 96,000 rural
cooperative banks in addition to cooperative credit institutions As of September 2021, the
total number of ATMs in India reached 213,145 out of which 47.5% are in rural and semi
urban areas.
According to India Ratings & Research (Ind-Ra), credit growth is expected to hit 10% in
2022-23 which will be a double digit growth in eight years. As of November 4, 2022 bank
credit stood at Rs. 129.26 lakh crore (US$ 1,585.09 billion).

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

“Research is an organized inquiry designed and carried out to provide information

for solving problems.”

- Fred Kerlinger.
“Research is careful inquiry or examination to discover new information or
relationships and to existing knowledge.”

- Francis Rammel.

Research is one of the most important parts of any study and to collect the information and

knowledge. Finance research is defined as the systematic design, collection, analysis, and

reporting of data and findings relevant to a specific financial situation facing the company.

The research process depends upon developing the most efficient plan for gathering the

47
needed information. Designing a research plan calls from decisions on the data sources,

research approaches, research instruments, sampling plan, and contact methods.

Research design:-

Research design is the plan for collecting the information related to the study.
Research design explains the methods that are used for collecting the information. The
research design will focus attention on the different methods that are used for collection of
the data. Also it will help to solve the problem. Different forms of collecting the data will
be tasted in the research design.

In this case, survey method is used to collect the necessary data in the survey
method, the personal interview is used to collect the information from the respondents, and
questionnaires are used. The respondents are visited personally, and the detail information
is collected related to the study. The question mainly focuses attention on the consumer
behavior to fulfill the objective of the study

DATA SOURCE

48
For this project both primary and secondary data were valuable sources of information:

 Primary Data

 Secondary Data

Primary Data :

Primary data are those, which are collected for the first time and they are original in
character. The researcher must study a particular problem collects there.

Questionnaire carrying various questions regarding research method. Researchers

personally visited to the customer and ask the questions and sub questions to him and
recorded the answer in the questionnaire.

For this study the researcher did not simply relied on the questionnaire but also
adopted the observation method for collecting real facts.

SAMPLING PLAN:-
Sampling plan includes.
(A) Sampling unit
(B) Sample size
(C) Sampling method

49
(A) Sampling Unit:-
In my study I have primarily collected all the sample data from

 Through Interaction with Employee

 Through Questionnaires filled from Employee

(B) Sample Size:-

One of the most important parts for the research is to decide sample size. I have taken 100
samples. The sample size explains how many customer are covered in the study?
(C) sampling method:-
In my project, I opted questionnaires for survey with visiting customers for
sampling .

Secondary Data:

Secondary data is data gathered from studies, surveys, or experiments that have been run

by other people or for other research.

• Through internet and various websites

50
• Through Journals and Magazines

 Through Bank SOPs

LIMITATION OF THE STUDY:-

The time period of the survey being only one month it was not possible to conduct
a highly in depth and details study.
Different people have a different thought-process and different attitudes. As a
result their manner of answering the questions of the study differs the answers
received sometimes good while sometimes they where negative.
A census survey is not possible due to time period so I have selected sample
survey.
Sample size was to small to conclude vast topic like Brand Value.
Wholesale Banking belongs to large corporate group hence it was difficult to get
complete financial info. about it due to certain restriction.

SUGGESTIONS

The study is aimed at analyzing customer perception about Axis Bank- wholesale Banking
product portfolio with sample size of 100 Customers.

Based on my research and study below are the few Recommendation I

would like to make here for Axis Bank.

 Axis Bank has established themselves as major market player in Banking Industry

however bank has huge threat in terms of core competencies.

 Axis Bank NPA number is matter of concern and bank need to look into it.

 Wholesale banking business negligence or low customer satisfaction can dent

banking business majorly, hence Bank need to keep an eye on it.

 Bank needs to identify the potential or prospects corporate or startup who can turn

as unicorn in future and hand hold them in very initial level. If not in wholesale

banking department but at least if you can serve them better as Retail business

customer also can help you in future.

70
 Axis Bank need to increase manpower in Bangalore circle as I have seen heavy
work load on employees.

 Axis Bank financial number need an improvement as the kind of opportunity they

have in Silicon IT city like Bangalore, Bank is not utilized optimal.

 Axis Bank has to also focus on more govt body initiative in Digital banking space.

 Axis Bank has to focus on more innovative banking model like, cloud banking,
blockchain, digital banking, App support so that bank can have technological edge.

71
CONCULUSION

 At Axis Bank, they believe success is a never ending journey, and this is at the
core of our brand value proposition. In the journey of human progress, we are all

 ‘Sustainable Progress’, as an extension of our brand proposition ‘Progress on…’, is
an articulation of our sustainability philosophy and our steadfast commitment

 Axis Bank wholesale banking unit contribute major chunk of revenue income for
the bank and have many good corporate house, Unicorn startups, Govt. bodies
which is really good for the Bank.
 Bangalore circle contribute a large chunk of profit year on year.
 Axis Bank wholesale banking success differentiate from competitor based on few
basic principal
