CR6C Operation Instructions

1 Introduction
The Creator 6C is a newly developed electrical box specially designed for the CNC-EDM
machine. This new system is the product of Creator’s years of experience in the fields of
electrical and electronics design.

The main features of the Creator-6C are:

1. Automatic point to point jog function.

2. Multiple coordinate, multiple depth level eroding capability.

3. Automatic ten-step depth finishing function allows machining to be completed from rough
to fine finishing in one program.

4. Three axis simultaneous eroding with helical path eroding capability.

5. Wide range of orbit functions, expandable.

6. Interactive man machine interface.

7. Various manual and automatic touch and center find function, quick set-up function.

8. Graphics display function of operation or eroding path.

9. Easy-to-use multi-point matrix eroding program editor.

10. Three sets of auxiliary voltages available to prevent arcing.

11. Three levels of power source for maximum safety.

12. Water and dust resistant.

Important:
1. Unstable output voltage will seriously affect output current and eroding speed. The
higher the voltage, the higher the current and the faster the eroding speed. But at the
same time, the surface finish will be rougher and the gap will be larger.
2. To obtain the best results from EDM power system, it is very important to select a
power source and cable diameter that properly matches the maximum current
consumption of the electrical box and horsepower of the EDM fluid pump. If the
power supply is insufficient or the electrical cables are too thin, the machine will not
function as desired.

3.1 Control panel components
Voltage gauge:Displays voltage between operating electrode and work piece.

Current gauge:Displays the average eroding current.

Emergency stop : After pressing this button, the third power(servo power and edm
power) source will shut off and an Emergency Stop Signal will
display on the screen and the server will not activate. Once the
source of the problem has been found, press this key and then the
RESET button to restart the machine.

OVERRIDE dial:Turn this dial to adjust the federate of each motion block.

OT RELEASE key :When the Z-axis run over the limit switch on the work table, the
EMERGENCY STOP light will flash on the screen and the server
will not activate. Use this key to reset the machine.
1. Press and hold down the key.
2. Then press the RESET key. The server will restart. Wait until the
“SYSTEM OK” and “SERVO OK” light and remember to keep pressing
down the “OT RELEASE” key.
3. Use the manual operation key until the machine reaches the center
position and then release the OT RELEASE key.
4. If the machine still does not reset, follow these steps again and move the
machine a little farther this time.

ON key:Pressing this key starts up the system’s main power source.

OFF key:Pressing this key shuts down the system’s main power source.

3.2 System ON/OFF Procedure
System ON Procedure:
1. Press the green START at the lower left corner of the control panel. This will start up
the electrical box. The monitor screen and computer system will then activate and
boot up the main menu.
2. After the main menu appears, press the RESET on the keyboard and wait for the
“System OK” light to flash red on the system status area. This means that the
system is functioning normally. Then wait for the “Server OK” light to flash red. This
means that the external server system is functioning normally.
3. After the System OK and Server OK lights flash red, you must wait until the Z-AXIS
HOME (seeks out mechanical reference point) function is completed before
operation can start.
4. After the Z-axis returns to home, the system start-up procedure is complete.

System OFF Procedure

Method 1:Press F10 then press Y to shut down the system.


Method 2:Press the red STOP on the bottom left corner of the control panel to shut
down the system.

3.3 Control Panel Functions

The control panel on the CRC6 is made up of two sections. One is the EDM keypad
and the other is a keyboard containing the screen’s instrument and function keys.

The EDM keypad


The CRC6 control panel has an EDM keypad and a keypad made up of logic keys,
mode selection keys and remote keys.

The logic keypad has the following keys:


↑ ↓ ← → :When editing tables, press ↑ ↓ ← → to scroll the cursor left and right
or up and down.

PgUp:Scrolls the screen up one page in the editing mode.

PgDn:Scrolls the screen down one page in the editing mode.

:Erases the proceeding character in the editing mode.

ENTER : While in the editing mode, press this key to enter the data. Remember to
check over your data before entering it.

SHIFT :Press this key first and then the characters you want to input when entering
Roman letters, numbers or special character in the top right corner.

Other keys:The other keys are used when entering Roman letters, numbers and other
special characters.

Mode Selection Keys


F1~F10 keys : By pressing one of these keys, you can select the corresponding
operation mode on the selection menu or a subfunction of one of the
operation modes.

Esc key:Pressing this key returns you to the previous operation mode level or leaves
the function.
Del key:Deletes the message.

3.4 Remote Keys

START:

1. Press shift Z-axis operation.

2. In the automatic operation mode, start an EDM program. The pump will start up as
the program starts.

3. In any of the operation modes, the START button can be used to restart operation if

either the STOP or RESET key is used.

STOP key:Halts system operation.
HOME MODE operation.

RESET:Halts system operation


1. When the system is ON, resetting this key will start the server system.
2. HOME MODE operation.
3. AXIS MOVE operation.

◆ X+ X- Y+ Y- Z+ Z- keys:Manual jog keys.

◆ SCALE:Switches to the manual feed scales (1 , 10 , 100 , RAPID (continuous


movement)

◆ HEAD UP:Moves head up.

◆ HEAD DOWN:Moves head down.

◆ PUMP:Key that turns on/shuts down the pump.

◆ TOUCH RESET key:Resets the touch sensor alarm.

1 Mode Display Area
Displays the mode currently used by the operator.

2 File Name Area


Place to enter the eroding program name.

3 Time Display Area


Displays the present time.

4 Eroding Parameter Area


Displays the current eroding parameters and eroding efficiency parameters.

5 Three Axis Coordinate Area


Displays the current working coordinates.

6 Mechanical Coordinate Area


Displays the current position of the three axes in mechanical coordinates .

7 Feedrate Area
(1) F:Displays feedrate for current operation stage.
(2) O:Displays OVERRIDE percentage.
(3) MPG:Displays manual pulse generator feed unit.

System Status Area (represented by a red signal light)
(1) START:Eroding,Indicates that a eroding program is being run by the
system.
(2) STOP:Pause,Indicates that the program currently being run has been
temporarily halted.
(3) END:Complete,Indicates that the program being run is finished.
(4) SPARK:Eroding,Indicates that the system is currently doing eroding.
(5) FLUSH:Indicates that the system is currently doing flushing.
(6) ORBIT:Remote,Displays the remote operation function in use.
(7) ARC:Indicates that the sensor has detected arcing.
(8) FIRE:Indicates that the fire sensor function has been activated
(9) EMG:Emergency stop,Indicates that the system is emergency stop
mode.
(10) HAND:Manual mode status
(11) PUMP:Indicates that the pump is ON.

(12) TOUCH:Indicates that a TOUCH signal has been detected.
(13) LEVEL:Indicates whether the fluid has reached the set height or not.
(14) P-OVL:Pump overload indicator.
(15) T-RST:Touch Reset,Resets the touch sensor alarm.
(16) HOME:Indicates whether the machine has performed the home
function or not.
(17) SERVO:Indicates that the servo motor is ready.
(18) SYSTEM:Indicates that the system is operating normally.
(19) DRY RUN:Indicates that the machine is currently in the dry run mode,
which moves without eroding.
(20) RESERVE:(left open)
(21) SLEEP:Indicates that the system is currently in the sleep mode.
(22) POWER OFF:Indicates machine close down.

4.1 System Overview
The F1 – F10 keys are used to select or display the various operation modes and
subfunctions on the CR6C. Use the ESC key to return back to the previous operation mode
level.

4.2 F1 HOME

The function of this mode is to find the reference point of the machine (zero point on the
work table)

F1 ZXY HOME:Find the machine reference point on all three axes.


1. OVERRIDE key does not function during 3-AXIS HOME operation.
2.The order of operation for the 3-AXIS HOME operation is Z-AXIS  X-AXIS  Y-
AXIS.
F3 X HOME:Finds the machine reference point on the X-axis.
F4 Y HOME:Finds the machine reference point on the Y-axis.
F5 Z HOME:Finds the machine reference point on the Z-axis.

4.3 F2 JOG MDI (Manual Operation)
By pressing the X+, Y+, Z+, C+, X-, Y-, Z-, C- keys, the operator can move the
X, Y and Z axes. And by pressing two or three of the X, Y or Z keys simultaneously, the
operator can move two or three axis. And by using the OVERRIDE key, the operator can
control the speed of the axis movement.

5. Minimum current: 0 Amps, Maximum current depends on the machine model.
6. If you enter A5.0 as the eroding current, you are directly taken into the A table
where you can download all of the eroding parameters for eroding current of 5.0
Amps.
F2 DV:Auxiliary voltage
7. Auxiliary voltages of 100V, 150V, 270V are used during eroding. Unit: Volts
8. Input: Code 1 (100V), 2-5 (150V), 6-9 (270V)
F3 ON:on time
The pulse ON time during eroding. Range 1 – 9999 sec.
F4 OFF:off time

4. System will start auto touch after you input moving values.
5. After auto touch, system will show touch point coordinate at below touch

7 Relationship between eroding parameter and

performance
1、Electric Current:
a. Most important factor for EDMing is Electric current (Amp), Voltage gape, ON time, OFF
time. Above parameter’s setting will be affect the electrode wear rate, finish mold’s
fineness, and gap.
b. When choose Amp, if the electrode’s surface is under 100 mm 2, setting should be under
10A. The rough sparking should be set at 4 ~6A, it will not destroy the electrode surface’s
completeness.

2、Eroding Voltage:
a. 100V: For rough sparking, over 4A and stable sparking. However, if the surface is not
big, under 3A and 0.01mm dial gauge is under stable condition, 100V can be used.
b. 150V: Assist voltage. Used for under 3A’s fine sparking, working surface under 100
mm2, or over 3A with larger working surface. If surface is not large, and working under
3A, 0.01mm dial gauge is stable, it can be used.
c. 270V: Assist voltage. For larger surface, fine sparking.
d. Electrode wear rate.
Low voltage < Middle voltage < High voltage, Low voltage is for rough sparking.

3、Pulse(ON TIME) affects to output (under same current):

4、OFF TIME affects to output (under same current):

8、Voltage:
Default is 50,higher value is more stable but slower speed. Lower value gets higher speed,

11、Sparking example:
A、Steel to Steel:
Use high voltage to increase stability. (Over 200V)
a. If wear rate is a major concern, the ON Time and OFF Time can both enlarge. If
15A, then ON TIME=500~800μs,OFF TIME=80~100μs。
b. If upper and lower mold’s wear rate wants to be the same, use + sparking for some
time, or certain distance, then change to – sparking for some time or distance.

B、 Graphite→Steel:
Enlarge OFF TIME will get stabilization.
Enlarge ON TIME will get stabilization

C、Sharp angle electrode:


Use small current & larger ON TIME in the beginning to protect Sharp angle electrode.
Wait until larger surface to increase bigger current to increase working speed.

D、Thin surface and lots hole:


With stronger oil flush on one side and other side keep oil covered.
PS:Surround working area with oil to make sure the thin surface’s bottom filled with oil.

E、Electrode with lean surface – fine sparking:


a. Middle or high voltage (depend on electrode’s superficial contents) to increase
sparking gap.
b. Soak oil, but oil level must be only a little higher than mold’s surface, and keep oil
flush.

F、Angle handling or enhance slot:


a. Watch oil flush direction, oil flush by 45∘ to enhance ARC flush 。
b. If it is deep and small electric current, use middle voltage and enhance oil flush.

G、A shape electrode:


Drill a hole on top to enhance ARC flush, and it must soak with oil in all time。

Appendix D Program Installation
2.1 Disk Installation
Place the disk into the floppy disk drive and reboot up the system. When the system
reboots, six items will appear on the screen.

1. DOS

2. Install ALL CNC SYSTEM

3. Install CNC.EXE

4. Install USERDATA

5. Install MDB

6. Backup MDB

Six function selections

1. DOS
Returns to the DOS operation mode.

2. Install all CNC system


Reinstalls all of the programs for the entire system.
*** Important *** If you have performed item 6 previously on the disk used for installation,
make sure to check that the backed up MDB data is the same for this machine.

3. Install CNC.EXE
Reinstalls the execution files for the system programs.

4. Install USERDATA
Reinstalls fonts, eroding parameters and subprograms.

5. Install MDB
Reinstalls system parameters, eroding parameters and axis parameters.

6. Backup MDB
Backs up the current system parameters, eroding parameters and axis parameters onto
a disk.
A disk must be inserted in the disk drive to do this. Make sure the disk is switched over to
write-protection.

Appendix F Servo Adjustment

***Adjusting D/A output

1. ZERO ADJ
If the V Command is set to 0V, the motor should lock down. If there is any forward or
reverse movement, adjust the resistance clockwise or counterclockwise direction.

2. SPEED ADJ
This adjusts the internal speed limit and the externally supplied ±10V DC The speed
command here acts as the max speed limit. Clockwise = slow down revolution speed,
counter-clockwise= speed up revolution speed

Adjustment method:
Turn the OVERRIDE dial on the control panel to 100, jog one axis in the pos+ and
neg- directions and adjust that axis’ variable resistance until the D/A OUT is around
1000. Do this for all 3 axes.

3. AC GAIN ADJ
Differences in the motor and mechanical inertia or oscillation frequency once the motor
reaches a stable speed (i.e. accelerate to a certain fixed speed or slows to a stop) can
cause the following situations.
(1) If the motor runs fast, hangs or vibrates excessively once it reaches a stable
speed, the AC GAIN is set too low. Adjust in a clockwise direction until these
conditions disappear.
(2) If the motor makes strange noises (if this continues and the motor or driver

overheat), the AC GAIN is set too high. Adjust in a counterclockwise direction until
the noise disappears. Be careful not to overcompensate. This could cause the
motor to run fast or hang during positioning.
Clockwise direction = increase gain
Counterclockwise direction = decrease gain
(Making the appropriate adjustment to match GAIN instruction can raise AC follow-
up precision and operation stability)

4. DC GAIN ADJ
When it leaves the manufacturer, the motor is set to its maximum rigidity. If the motor
vibrates excessively during start-up or shut-down or shakes or overheats during start
up or shut down, the motor can be adjusted down to eliminate these problems. If
adjusted too low, the motor hold will weaken to a point where its follow-up response
will be affected. (High frequency shaking is commonly caused by interference to the
voltage command or speed feedback signal. Make sure to first isolate and then adjust
the rigidity).
Clockwise direction = increase gain
Counterclockwise direction = decrease gain
(Making the appropriate adjustment to match GAIN instruction can raise AC follow-up
precision and motor hold stability)

Appendix H System Testing Procedure
STEP 1
.Check ampere rating of fuse
.Make sure the output voltage and transformers CT61、CT62 and 5KV are correct
.Switch ON main power switch
.Check JP1.7 JP1.8 = AC.220V , JP1.9 JP1.10 = AC.18V on the CJED-632C
.Check that the computer cables are connected to their proper positions
.Switch ON electrical box power source

STEP 2
.Make sure the power supplies on the back of the machine are OK.
→ Large machine head motor = 220V
→ Pump power source = input power
→ Halogen lamp = 12V

STEP 3
.Remove power cable from the 3-axis motor driver
.Check the direction of the optical ruler (Manually rotate the 3-axis
motor belt wheel )
.If direction is incorrect → set #1X03 position feedback polarity
.Set #1X39 position control OFF ( prevents motor from running high )

STEP 4
.Press RESET to start system
.If the system does not start → Check if the 3-axis limit switch is OFF.
→ Check CJED-632C LED.9 ( ON normal )
→ Check if CJED-665C WATCH DOG is functioning
normally
If not, switch to 74LS123 on the CJED-665C and
then test

STEP 5
.Check if the 3-axis limit switch is functioning properly
.Check if the large machine head locking switch and limit switch are functioning
properly.
( you can also check the WATCH DOG on the CJED-661.

STEP 6 If motor runs high after system is started up.
→ Switch the motor feedback polarity for the axis where the motor is running high.
→ Connect the power supply to the 3-axis motor driver
→ Set each axis position control on #1X39 to ON
→ Set speed command polarity #1X04 (for the axis with the motor problem )

STEP 7
.Set HOME point direction
→ Set home point polarity #1X23 for each axis

STEP 8
.Make sure the PUMP is turning in the right direction.
If not → lack phase

STEP 9
.Check the CJED-662A and make sure it is operating normally.
( The computer sends commands to the machine through the CJED-662A )
EX: PUMP will not start → CJED-662A LED.4

→ Start PUMP solenoid
→ Make sure the PUMP fuse is ON

.Switch the power meter to DC and test the electrode and work piece for DC 3.6V

Check if the alarm or touch indicator are lit.
If not → check the CJED-665 CN2

.Check the CJED-631A ( JOG board )
KEY IN and see if it has reached ( check the CJED-661A light no and the
diagnostic menu x flag number).
