4. Major duties and Responsibilities in different organization


4.1. Hope school Assosa: Hope Enterprise Assosa area project School Principal (April,
01/2016 until now) and Homosha Education office Benishangul Gumuz Regional state,
School Principal (November, 11 /2012 – March, 31/2016)
Hope Enterprises was established in 1971 as one of the first indigenous non-governmental
organizations in Ethiopia. Hope promotes holistic transformational human development
aiming at improving the quality of life of the underprivileged. It is operating in six regions of
Ethiopia including Addis Ababa, Oromia (Herrera and Roggie), Amhara (Dessie), Gambella,
Benshangul (Assosa) and Southern Nations and Nationalities (Sintaro). In these regions Hope
is implementing basic care, education, vocational training and community development
programs leading to competence and sufficiency.
Duties and Responsibilities

 Support and secure the commitment of teachers and subordinates to the vision, culture,
and policies of the school and promote high levels of achievement for HOPE students.
 Ensure annual school plan, which coincide with SMAP of HOPE enterprises and School
Improvement Program procedures; are prepared together with representative of teachers,
parents, and students.
 Ensure teaching-learning is conducted according to the government curriculum and the
quality packages designed by the MOE are well implemented.
 Ensure department and teachers prepares their annual plan which is derived from school
annual plan in the prescribed school calendar.
 Ensure the implementation of the school plan, especially as it relates to delegation of
responsibilities to departments/sections, and clearly informing teachers and students about
policies, plan and priorities for meeting objectives and targets, and any future
development needs.
 Ensure continuity and progression of teaching by supporting and supervising teachers in
choosing the appropriate sequence of teaching and teaching methods in line with school
plan.
 Submit school request supplies, materials, and equipment timely to the branch manager as
requested, and avail the necessary teaching and learning materials that the curriculum
requires before the beginning of a school year.
 Recruit the necessary teaching staff for the school after granting permission from the
headquarters,
 Prepare an orientation program for the staff and the students and let each be oriented of
such program during orientation week and at other times deemed necessary
 Responsible in developing positive working relationships and norms with and between all
teachers, students, and staff, and ascertain the realization of such norms.
 Ascertain that each teacher gives monthly tests, assessment, mid semester and semester
exams according to the annual calendar and to the professional requisites and expectation
of HOPE.
 Supervise and support the creation of a learning environment that promotes stimulating
and challenging learning, student centered teaching method, active participation of
students, behavior, and discipline, and holistic development of students.
 Ascertain that the students live up to the rules of conduct promulgated by the organization
with your staff being required to implement such rules.
 Control teachers’ attendance and punctuality during entering and exit from classrooms,
and supervise staff according to the standards of the profession and that of Hope twice
yearly using the guidelines set forth by the organization.
 Encourage parents’ involvement and ensure that parents/guardians are well informed
about their children’s progress and attainment in the school. .
 Assign duty master teachers during lunch and break times.
 Accountable for organizing and assigning responsibilities for co-curricular clubs and
committees.
 Ensure co-curricular clubs and committees prepare annual plan according the prescribed
date and procedure, and follow up on the implementation of activities according to the
plan.
 Strength students’ parliament and conduct meeting according to the school calendar.
 Organize meetings with teachers, parents, and PTA according to the school calendar.
 Create communication and network with government education bureaus and institutions.
 Organize and prepare reports that should be submitted to education bureau, branch,
headquarter, and donors regarding the education sector as requested, and send through the
Branch Manager. Especially for external offices, the information conveyed in the reports
shall be accurate and acceptable, and by no means jeopardize the reputation of HOPE.
 Organize tutorial class programs and ensure the classes are given every week.
 Ascertain that the cleanliness of the classrooms and the security and care of the property
in them is maintained through an assignment of the staff and children.
 Accountable to organize library, laboratories, and pedagogy centers for them to be
functional enough for the teaching-learning.
4.6. Bnishangul Gumuz regional State Homosho (June, 27/2011 – November, 10/2012)
and Maokomo Special Woreda (Jul,y 8/2009 – March, 09/2011) Education office: As
Chemistry and mathematics Teachers, Benishangul Gumuz Region,
 Required to provide educational and instructional services as directed by the school
director and during the period set in the school calendar.
 Teach according to the ministry of education curriculum and school calendar.
 Prepared for assigned classes, and show written evidence of preparation upon request of
immediate supervision. For this aim, annual lesson plans and weekly plans for each
subject should be prepared according to school format and giving due consideration to
academic calendar, subject portion and period. In addition, annual and weekly lesson
plans should be presented on time.
 Maintain classroom discipline in accordance with the school’s procedures and
encouraging students about good practice with regard to punctuality, behavior, standards
of work and homework.
 Strive for the teaching learning to be that promote students active participation,
democratic thoughts, freedom of expression, Ethiopian nationalism, good values,
analytical thinking, respect for others and so on.
 Strive to raise students’ interest and active participation by incorporating the subject
content to outside world.
 Strive to make the subject to be taught modern and applicable to contemporary world by
exploring new information and technology and by self-updating.
 Teach students individually and in groups using various methods which may include
demonstration, laboratory supervision, tutorial, field lesson, and other forms as the
subject area requires and as instructed by director and deputy director. Also, use different
teaching aids to supplement the instruction.
 Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those
objectives to students.
 Prepare and implement remedial programs for students requiring extra help.
 Assess how well learning objectives have been achieved through different methods of
continuous assessments, assign and grade homework and class work regularly, and use
them to improve the overall teaching learning process.
 Administer standardized ability and achievements tests, and assessment of students as
requested by school administration and procedures, and maintains effective and efficient
record keeping procedures for individual student’s progress.
 Interpret results to determine students’ strength and areas of need, and strive to get
solutions for the hindrances of students’ better achievements.
 Identify students with special character and needs, make appropriate referrals to the
school administration when necessary.
 Respect the deadlines for exams, tests, and grade reports to submit on time to the
concerned body.
