    Assembly of Failsafe Actuator

    STEP-1 Bonnet Assembly


    1. Lubricate the cavity inside Packing gland or Bonnet with STP Oil where
    Stem packing assembly is to be placed. Refer to Figure 2 for Stem Packing
    options.
    2. Install Stem packing assembly in the Packing gland or the Bonnet stuffing
    box as applicable. Install the Packing gland seal (optional), and Packing
    gland wear ring in the packing gland and thread the packing gland in the
    bonnet cavity. Two 1/4" diameter holes are provided on the top surface
    of the packing gland to help rotation.
    3. Install the Operating stem wear ring inside the Bonnet. Insert the
    Operating stem through the bonnet, until it backseats as shown in the
    figure below.
    4. Install the Actuator housing bottom seal on the bonnet face.
    5. Install relief valve, autoclave fitting and grease fitting (refer to Figure 2 for
    different options) along with check valve (optional) in the bonnet ports.

    STEP 2 Actuator Housing Assembly


    1. Place Actuator housing upon the press, upside down.
    2. Install the Spring lifter wear ring in the ID of the Spring lifter and place
    the Spring lifter inside Actuator housing. Place the Spring on Spring lifter.
    3. Do not dismantle the Spring guide ring / Spring guide base assembly. The
    height is factory set based on the stroke of the valve.
    4. Place the Spring guide ring / Spring guide base assembly on the spring.
    5. Compress the spring till it is possible to install the Actuator housing
    retainer ring in the actuator housing groove

    STEP 3 Hydraulic Cylinder Assembly


    1. Install Piston seal and Piston wear ring in the grooves on the OD of the
    Piston.
    2. Install Piston stem seal along with its backup ring inside the groove on the
    piston stem, with backup ring at the bottom and seal ring on the top when
    looking at the assembled actuator.
    3. Assemble the Piston stem to the driving stem and install the Driving stem
    retainer ring in the driving stem.
    4. Place the piston on the driving stem, such that the Piston stem seal is on
    the top and Piston wear ring is at the bottom. Now install the Piston stem
    retainer ring in Piston stem.
    5. Place assembled driving stem inside actuator housing on spring lifter.
    6. Install the Hydraulic cylinder packing and Modular bearing inside
    hydraulic cylinder
    7. Install the Blind plug seal in the Blind plug and assemble the Blind plug to
    the Hyraulic cylinder.
    8. Install this Hydraulic cylinder inside Actuator housing.
    9. Install socket head cap screws on the Hydraulic cylinder.

    STEP 4 Actuator Assembly


    1. Make sure the Operating stem through the Bonnet is all the way up.
    2. Connect hydraulic line to the inlet port and pressurize the cylinder, so that
    the Driving stem moves down.
    3. Two tapped holes are provided on Actuator housing for lifting purpose.
    Slide the T-slot at the end of Driving stem in to the Operating stem. Install
    the Hex screws.
    4. Install muffler on the Actuator housing.
    5. Reduce the hydraulic pressure to zero. The Operating stem should be all
    the way up.
    6. Place new bonnet gasket on the body and place the Actuator assembly on
    the body. Slide the Operating stem into the T-nut slot.
    7. Tighten the nuts that are diagonally opposite and go in circle in the same
    manner to complete all the nuts. Torque the nuts to values provided in the
    table.

    This completes the assembly of Failsafe Actuator.
