PROBLEM
New Software for the Transmission/Chassis and Brake (IBC) ECMs needs to be installed on certain G Series
Off-Highway Trucks. An un-commanded shift out of "Park" can result from a failed shift lever sensor. This
failure may, in conjunction with other factors or circumstances, result in a risk of personal injury or
death.

ACTION REQUIRED
The new software has improved Park Brake Release Logic and is now being used in certain Off-Highway Trucks.
The improved logic requires an operator to press the service brake pedal before moving the shift lever from
"Park" to allow the Park Brake to be released. If operator does not depress the service brake before
shifting out of "Park", the transmission will go into gear, but Park Brake will not release.
Install the software according to your machine configuration. Refer to Image 3 for Group 1 Advisor display
software and supported languages.
The improved software is available in the form of a flash file through Caterpillar Service Information
System (SIS). Go to SIS Web to make sure the flash file part number is still the latest flash file part
number. A newer flash file part number may be available. SIS Web only displays the latest available flash
file.
Recommend to capture product status report (PSR) before and after flashing software.
Ethernet cable will be needed for "Group 2" machines to flash the information display.
Install the 614-7393 film as indicated in Image 1 or Image 2 depending on the truck being serviced. Make
sure the film is visible when the shift lever is in the "Park" position. Film part number should be located
on the bottom right side.
The film illustrates: To release the Park Brake, the Retarder Control lever should be off and the service
brake control pedal must be depressed prior to moving the transmission control out of "Park".
NOTE: Always use the latest software available. Sometimes the flash file part numbers are updated before the
program terminates.
Ensure that you are using the latest version of ET, flash the new Software onto the respective transmission
and brake (IBC) ECM. Refer to the Service Manual if/as necessary.
NOTE: Certain features that were standard in previous software may now be a "Software Enabled Attachment"
and require factory password to enable the feature. Machines previously equipped with this feature will not
be charged to enable the feature.
Note: The new software changes the procedure for releasing the parking brake. Be sure to communicate to the
customer/operator the new procedure for truck operation. The following procedure should be printed and
placed in each truck cab for operator reference.
