If the train was moving at 25m/s and the man ran at 10m/s; find the length of the bridge.

5. Okello bought 5 physics books and 6 mathematics books for Ksh.2440. Adwar bought 7
physics books and 9 maths books for ksh.3560. use matrix method to find the price of each.

6. A solid in the shape of a triangular based pyramid with the base in the shape of an
equilateral triangle of side 2cm and height h is submerged into a beaker containing 20cm 3 of
water. If the water level increases to 21 cm3, determine the value of h giving your answer in
surd form. (3 marks)

7. A salesman earns a basic salary of Ksh. 40,000 per month. He has a target of Ksh.100,000 of
sales per month. In addition to his basic salary, he is paid commission as follows:

10. A cardboard piece was cut from a regular polygon, and thrown away. A student picked up
this discarded piece, and what he discovered is shown below. (3 marks)

17. A civil servant who claims a monthly personal relief of ksh.1750 and an insurance relief of
sh.1500 ends up paying a net tax of shs.23,250 per month. His monthly allowances amount
to shs.22,400. He is housed by the employer for which he pays a norminal rent of shs. 5,000.
Apart from the tax and norminal rent, the following deductions are made from his monthly
income;

18. A man moves from town P on a bearing of 037 0 to town Q which is 8.3km away. From point
Q he moves on a bearing of 0890 to town R which is 10.8km from Q. He finally moves to
town S on a bearing of 2960 at a distance of 25.5km from R. Calculate:
i) How far west town S is from town P. (4mks)

ii) The distance between town P and town R. (3mks)

iii) The bearing of P from R. (3mks)

19. A cylindrical water tank of diameter 10.5m and 7.7m high is covered with a hemispherical
top as shown in the fiure below

a) If the tank is to be filled with water using a pipe of diameter 3cm and water flows into the
tank at the rate of 5m/s, calculate the time taken to fill the tank. (8mks)

b) Suppose the water is used to supply an estate for one day and each family uses 250 litres of
water per day, estimate the number of families in the estate. (2mks)

20. The diagram below shows the speed time graph for a train travelling between two stations.
The train starts from rest and accelerates for 150 seconds. It then travels at constant speed
for 300 seconds and finally accelerates uniformly for 200 seconds.

21. Two variables P and R are connected by the equation P = QR n - 10


The table below gives values of P with corresponding values of R.

22. The vertices of a four sided figure PQRS are P(2,2), Q(8,2), R(8,6) and S(6,4). Under a rotation
the images of P and S are p’(0,8) and S’(-2,12) respectively,
a) Draw PQRS on graph paper (1mk)

b) Mark P’ and S’ on the same diagram and use them to find the centre and angle of
rotation. (3mks)

c) Obtain Q’ and R’ the image of Q and R respectively after this rotation and write the
coordinates. (3mks)

d) Find P’’Q’’R’’S’’ the image of PQRS after a reflection in the line y = 3, hence write the
coordinates. (3mks)

and A respectively.
