1. COMMUNITY PROFILE

Bago Gallera has been competent when it comes to programs and events
that need to be attended. We have all services and free transportation for funeral
or burial services. There are active Tanod every night to avoid teenagers roaming
around late at night. However, there are inconsistent programs such as clean-up
drives and construction of every road within the specified place in our barangay.
This is a barangay in the municipality of Davao City, in the province of Davao Del
Sur. The population of our barangay is increasing with so many residents coming
from various places where they settled down in our barangay. We also have few
infrastructures and well-built houses. Additionally, we have a number of
subdivisions. The resident’s main source of income is working in the government
offices and private sectors. There are many families living in the middle part of the
poverty line.

Most of the houses are made up of light materials such as wood and cement
as it combined to make a comfortable shelter. People are involving themselves in
business to change the status of their finances. We also have schools in
Kindergarten, elementary and high school. Furthermore, only one (1) Barangay
Health Station with one (1) midwife and six (6) Barangay Health Workers provides
health services to the entire population. The area is not near the hospital but
fortunately, we have 911 service in our barangay. They also provide health
services and various assistance such as education, burial, transportation, and
more.

2. SCOPE OF THE WORK

The community/training needs assessment survey is conducted in Bagasa,

Bago Gallera, Talomo District, Davao City. There are limited participants ages
14yrs old and above. The participants are then tasked to rank the list of programs
we provide which includes tree planting, free dogs/cats spaying and vaccination,
medical mission, feeding program, clean up drive, disaster risk reduction seminars
and they are also given the chance to state other needs they want to address in
the community. There are also few follow up questions like when or when they
would want to hold the training and another space provided wherein they can write
their recommendation and suggestions on what other training they want to be
achieved and implemented.

3. IDENTIFYING COMMUNITY

The community has met the needs of children, youth, out-of-school youth,
senior citizens, and families. There are potential people in the service to share their
knowledge about the problems and success. People are slowly becoming united
to help every individual, especially those differently able. The citizens are friendly,
reliant, responsible, and helping one another. There may be a misunderstanding
within the group but it will slowly resolve due to the patience and understanding of
one’s person. We consider that this community is progressive and it is not too poor
to not provide for the needs of the people within the place. There are concrete
plans proposed to improve the barangay within the specific years and months to
be in the modern world and not be stagnant from the fast-changing technology in
society. In order to make this possible, people are always there to support and give
evaluations to all officers to make the projects possible with the proposed budget
as it should provide quality service.

7. Results and discussion

We handed ten survey questionnaires to the residents of Bago Gallera, and
half of them thought the most relevant program for their needs was "Medical
mission." Half of them also selected the "Feeding program" as a secondary option
for relevance. Six of the ten respondents ranked "Tree planting" and "Clean up
Drive" equally, with three choosing tree planting and the other three choosing clean
up drive as their third most relevant program. For their fourth relevant program,
each of them has a different perspective, however, three out of ten choose
"Disaster Risk Reduction Seminar" as the fourth relevant program. Although
“Clean up drive” received three as the third relevant program, four of the ten
respondents identified this program as their fifth relevant program. Lastly, the
majority of respondents answered, "Free dog/cat spaying and vaccination," with
seven out of ten choosing this program as the least significant.
When asked if they were interested in learning through community
programs, all 10 respondents replied yes. Being interested is one thing, but being
willing to spend their time is another. Fortunately, they are all keen to find time to
participate in community programs. Also, all 10 respondents chose Saturday as
their preferred day to host these events; nevertheless, while all ten respondents
may not agree on a time, the majority of them selected 8:00-11:00 am.

8. Conclusion
In response to the Community Needs Assessment that was conducted in
Bagasa, Bago Gallera, Talomo District, Davao City. The respondents were
formed to discuss the top 3 issues and make recommendations that would lead
to long-term solutions.

The top three issues in Bagasa, Bago Gallera at the time of this study are:
1. Medical Mission
2. Feeding Program
3. Clean up Drive / Tree Planting

Based on the community needs assessment, we can infer that we should ;

- Provide help to community's less fortunate members who have little or no
access to the most basic essentials of life, such as medical care, to
improve their health and quality of life.

- Implement a feeding program that offers people adequately funded

healthy meals to lower the risk of malnutrition. Feeding initiatives help
families and children grow by reducing hunger and improving nutrition.

- Set up community clean-up campaigns. People should be urged to

engage in these clean-up activities, which should be conducted
frequently.

- Families may participate in the tree-planting activity concurrently in each

purok or cluster according to a schedule established by the barangay.

- More youth recreation programs need to be created in order to inspire and

include them in their neighborhood.
- Make young leadership development programs. Youth will benefit from
this and become helpful.

In conclusion, performing a community needs assessment is indeed a

useful instrument we can use to highlight gaps and organize services
appropriately. However, the success of the said programs may vary on
how dedicated the community is to respond to needs of its locals as well
as the cooperation of the residents.

9. Recommendations

As we distributed the surveys, we included a section where respondents could

make recommendations, with the majority of them concentrating on programs such as
job fairs, community livelihood programs, youth activities, and mental health seminars.
As we read these recommendations, we recognized that the respondents are
interested in a program that will improve their lives, particularly those for the youth.
Livelihood programs are also important for the community because most respondents
stated that they wanted to improve their financial situation, learn skills that they could
use to start a business, and that job fairs in barangays can be very beneficial,
especially for those who lost their jobs due to the pandemic. Furthermore, as we read
the recommendations section, they are very concerned about the rampant increase in
teenage pregnancy, and they suggested that seminars on this topic would be valid, as
well as some recreational activities for the youth to enjoy so that they would have
something to look forward to instead of getting preoccupied with getting pregnant.
