General Guidelines for the Hip-Hop Contest

1. The participants must be bona fide students of MSU-Maguindanao.


2. Each department and college must have one (1) entry consisting of 8–10 participants.
3. Participants’ dance routine should have the look, posture, music, soul, groove, and attitude
of hip-hop.
4. The duration of the dance should be a minimum of 3 minutes and a maximum of 5 minutes,
including the entrance and exit.
5. No vulgarity, obscenity, or explicit content are allowed.
6. Props that are not considered part of the participants’ attire are prohibited, such as canes,
chairs, tambourines, and other musical instruments.
7. Teams may choose a different dance routine, but still in accordance with the rules of the
competition.
8. The performance order will be determined by the committee via a drawing of lots.

Mechanics

Music

1. All songs to be used in the performance piece must be appropriate and suitable for any age.
Foul taste in music, such as profanity, will result in disqualification.
2. All music will be played through a laptop. The team is responsible for bringing backup music
all the time in case it is needed.
3. The music to be used during the performance does not have a minimum or maximum
number of songs or recordings and may be edited to enhance choreography and personal
performance.
4. The competition music must not contain any inappropriate, lewd, or offensive language.

Costume

1. Attire may include accessories such as hats, scarves, jewelry, caps, gloves, and others, but
refrain from removing any pieces of clothing that can be offensive or out of character.
2. Any attire malfunction that results in exposing team members is grounds for deduction.
Please make sure that participants have dress rehearsals prior to the competition to work
out any costume problems.
3. It is necessary that each performer wear appropriate clothing throughout the duration of the
performance. A costume that is too short or too tight may be considered inappropriate and
not suitable for the audience at all ages.
4. Footwear is required during performances.
