1. Objective

1.1 To outline the requirements and method of statement for duct work installation

2. Responsibility

2.1 The Project Engineer, Safety Coordinator and Supervisor shall be responsible for ensuring
installation work is carried out as per working procedures. Trade workers must be trained to
perform the require works.

3. Working Procedures

3.1 Preparation

3.1.1 All materials, shop drawings and coordination drawings and other documentation relevant to the
area of works will be checked by the Project Team prior to the commencement of work, ensuring
that these are correct and as per reviewed by the Client/Consultant

3.1.2 Approved storage and pre-fabrication area will be allocated on site, all material safety data sheets
(MSDS) for all chemical materials to be submitted to safety department and displayed on site

3.1.3 Before commencing any construction works, pre-inspections will be carried out on all materials
prior to leaving the storage area by the Project Team

3.1.4 Prior to the commencement of any construction works, areas and access will be inspected by the
Project Team

3.2 Installation

For working at height (WAH) installation, to use Mobile Elevating Work Platform (MEWP), Ladder,
Mobile Scaffold, Scaffold, Working Platform provided. Work at Height (WAH) Safe Work Procedure
(SWP) or Risk Assessment (RA) to be used in concurrence with this MOS for duct work installation

3.2.1 Pre-Fabrication

a. To check and verify that the correct gauge thickness and size of the galvanize (GI) sheet delivered
are according to the specification and the area of works

b. To position the two L-shape GI sheets to form a rectangular shape

c. To use the type of slip joints according to the specification and join the GI sheets together

d. To install the duct flanges according to the specification

e. To apply sealant to all the joints, both externally and internally

f. To install tie rods with detail as per technical specification

g. To install the tie rods, ensure all bolts and nuts are tightened

h. To put the gaskets on the flanges, gasket thickness to follow accordingly to the specification

i. To clean the duct

3.2.2 Anchor Bolt and Bracket Support Installation

a. To mark the anchor location on the slab/wall as per coordination drawing, size and spacing to
follow approved detail installation drawing

b. To drill the holes in the slab/wall for fixing the anchor bolts

c. To insert and drive the anchor bolt with the hammer into the hole until nut and washer are flush
with the fixture

d. To tighten the anchor bolt to the specified torque

e. To fix the threaded rods and brackets to the specified height

f. To ensure all bolts and nuts are tightened

3.2.3 Duct Installation (Ladder/Mobile Scaffold/Scaffold/Working Platform)

a. To use Super Lift or chain block to lift the duct if it is too heavy for the number of men available

b. To lift the duct onto the movable rack and etc. and shift to the designated area

c. To lift duct to the specified height of the installed bracket supports

d. To secure the duct to the brackets, ensure all bolts and nuts are tightened

e. To join the duct according to the type of joint

f. To apply sealant to all the joints

g. To repeat the above sequence for the next duct for the area of works

3.2.4 Duct Installation (MEWP)

a. To use Super Lift or chain block to lift the duct if it is too heavy for the number of men available

b. To lift the duct onto the movable rack and etc. and shift to the designated area

c. To lift and secure the duct to the MEWP, to check the safe working load allowable for MEWP

d. The duct should be placed evenly on MEWP to prevent off balance of the duct during the raising
of the MEWP

e. To raise MEWP to the specified height of installed bracket supports

f. To secure the duct to the brackets, ensure all bolts and nuts are tightened

g. To join the duct according to the type of joint

h. To apply sealant to all the joints

i. To repeat the above sequence for the next duct for the area of works

3.2.5 Lifting of Duct by Using Chain Block

a. To barricade and signage to be put up to warn people to keep away from lifting area

b. To check the safe working load of the chain block and the anchorage point on the slab/beam

c. To install the Chain Block

d. To secure the duct with the chain and hook on both ends

e. To slowly lift the duct to the specified height of installed bracket support, guide rope to be used

f. To install a safety rope for bigger duct when deemed necessary

g. To secure the duct to the brackets, ensure all bolts and nuts are tightened

3.3 Housekeeping

3.3.1 To ensure proper housekeeping is done before and after work activities

3.3.2 To take before and after photos for each work area activities

3.3.3 To inform engineer/supervisor at the end of each day

3.4 Testing And Commissioning

3.4.1 Air Leakage Test

a. To Barricade and signage to be put up to warn people to keep away from the test area

b. To ensure the ductwork under test is installed in accordance to designed schematic layout

c. To ensure that all measurement tool have valid calibration certification

d. To calculate the allowable leakage and confirm it is within equipment test capacity

e. To ensure that there is no opening or holes on testing ductwork

f. To fit the primary duct adapter spigot to one end of the flexible tube. Make air-tight seal using the
over lock straps

g. To attach and secure the primary duct adapter to the opening on the ductwork

h. To drill a hole and insert a tubing into it, to seal up any gap

i. To connect the other end of the flexible tube to the cam lock connector

j. To connect the cam lock connector to the blower

k. To zero the PVM610 pressure sensor with both ports open to the atmosphere

l. To connect the other end of the tubing to the positive port of the PVM610 Micromanometer and
the negative port to the atmosphere

m. To zero the TA465-P pressure sensor with both ports open to the atmosphere

n. To connect the P1(+) and P2(-) to the TA465-P using red and blue tubing

o. To connect the thermocouple to the TA465-P

p. To insert the thermocouple probe into the blower inlet

q. To rotate the speed controller knob anti-clockwise to zero and then clockwise until the required
ductwork static pressure is obtained

r. To wait for 15 minutes, read the Micro Manometer reading & TA465-P reading for static pressure
and determine leakage flow rate, record the test result

s. To arrange and conduct the inspection with necessary parties to witness the air leakage test

t. All parties to sign on the testing inspection form

u. Upon successful inspection of leakage test, disconnect the air leakage tester

1. Objective

1.1 To outline the requirements and method of statement for MV Fan installation

2. Responsibility

2.1 The Project Engineer/Supervisor shall be responsible for ensuring installation work is carried out
as per working procedures. Trade workers must be trained to perform the require works.

3. Working Procedures

3.1 Preparation

3.1.1 All materials, shop drawings and coordination drawings and other documentation relevant to the
area of works will be checked by the Project Team prior to the commencement of work, ensuring
that these are correct and as per reviewed by the Client/Consultant

3.1.2 Before commencing any construction works, pre-inspections will be carried out on all materials
prior to leaving the storage area by the Project Team

3.1.3 Prior to the commencement of any construction works, areas and access will be inspected by the
Project Team

3.2 Installation

For working at height (WAH) installation, to use Mobile Elevating Work Platform (MEWP), Ladder,
Mobile Scaffold, Scaffold, Working Platform provided. Work at Height (WAH) Safe Work
Procedure(SWP) or Risk Assessment (RA) to be used in concurrence with this MOS for pipe work
installation

3.2.1 MV Fan Installation(Floor Mounted)

a. Visually inspect the exterior casing of fan for any damage during transport

b. Ensure installation area have proper space for future servicing

c. Ensure the concrete plinths or I-beam are cased and cleaned for fan installation

d. Place the anti-vibration ribbed rubber pads of correct thickness as per approved drawing

e. Shift the fan to the place of installation in safe manner using folk lift and crane or chain block as
applicable

f. If the fan is shipped in multiple sections, the unit will be assembled strictly as per manufacturer’s
instructions.

g. Shift the fan sections to designated location

h. Ensure fan shifted to correct location for ducting installation

i. Ensure all joints are jointed properly

j. Installation of ducting and associations as per approved method statement and shop drawing

k. Electrical and control wiring and earthing installation as per approved method statement and shop
drawing

3.2.2 MV Fan Installation(Suspended)

a. Visually inspect the exterior casing of fan for any damage during transport

b. Ensure installation area have proper space for future servicing

c. Install temporary bracket for chain block, bracket and spring isolator for fan at the soffit of the slab.

d. Install C-channel for the fan as per coordination drawing

e. Place the anti-vibration ribbed rubber pads of correct thickness as per approved drawing

f. Shift the fan on the C-channel by chain block

g. Install the rod of fan and tighten it while it still supported by chain block

h. Remove the chain block once all the rods of fan has been installed

i. Ensure fan shifted to correct location for piping and ducting installation

j. Ensure all joints are jointed properly

k. Installation of ducting and associations as per approved method statement and shop drawing

l. Electrical and control wiring and earthing installation as per approved method statement and shop
drawing

3.3.1 Ensure proper housekeeping is done before and after work activities

3.3.2 To take before and after photos for each work area activities

3.3.3 To inform engineer/supervisor at the end of each day

3.4 Testing And Commissioning

a. Ensure that the associated ductwork and electrical work has been completed according to the
layout.

b. Conduct megger test to ensure good electrical insulation.

c. Rotate fan manually, if possible, and check whether there is any obstacle or foreign object.

d. Press the ‘Start’, and immediately ‘Stop’ button at local control panel to perform try-run. Check
whether the fan is free to rotate and note for any abnormal noise.

e. Press the ‘Start’ button again and let the fan run for about 5 seconds. Observe for any unusual
vibration and noise from motor or ductwork.

f. Run the fan for a while and check running ampere. If the reading is higher than motor specification,
stop the fan immediately.

g. Take a few air velocity readings from either upstream or downstream side of the fan. Calculate the
average value and convert it into air capacity by: -

where,
Q, air capacity
Vave , average air velocity
A, total duct cross area

h. In the case that velocity measurement is not allowed or not reliable due to site constraint, measure
the pressure difference across the fan and obtain air capacity value with the help of fan curve
chart.

i. Take the readings on the following parameters:


1. Starting current
2. Running current
3. Air capacity
4. Air static pressure
