PART - 1 GENERAL

1.01 DESCRIPTION
A. General:
1. Furnish all labour, materials, tools, equipment, and services for automatic transfer
switches, in accord with provisions of Contract Documents.
2. Completely coordinate with the work of other trades.
3. Although such work is not specifically indicated, furnish and install all
supplementary or miscellaneous items, appurtenances and devices incidental to or
necessary for a sound, secure and complete installation.
B. Related work specified elsewhere:
1. Section 16010, General Provisions for Electrical Works
2. Section 16620, Standby Generator System
3. Division 1, General requirements

1.02 SUBMITTALS
A. Shop drawings:
1. Outline drawings of assembly.
2. One line diagrams and wiring diagrams for assembly an components.
3. Interconnection wiring diagrams.
B. Product data:
1. Complete catalog information.
C. Contract closeout information:
1. Operating and maintenance data.

PART - 2 PRODUCTS

2.01 MATERIALS
A. Automatic transfer switches: Electrically operated mechanically held 3 phase AC, air-
circuit breaker type, with supervisory relays on each phase of normal source and
supervisory frequency/voltage relay for emergency source.
1. The transfer switch shall be suitable for all classes of loads to 380 Volts , 3 phase,
60 Hz AC power, when enclosed in an unventillated sheet metal enclosure major
component of equipment shall have Manufacturer’s name, address, type & style
and catalogue number on a plate.
2. Adjust normal source supervisory relays to transfer load if voltage on any phase
drops below 70 percent of normal and to restore load to normal source when

normal source voltage on all phases is 90 percent or more.

3. Obtain voltage for main contact operating solenoid from source to which load is
being transferred.
4. All transfer switches serving line to neutral load(s) shall be 4 - pole switches or
shall have overlapping neutral contacts Transfer switches serving strictly line to
line load(s) shall be 3 pole switches 380/220 volts.
5. Make mechanical design of switch such that it will positively open all
ungrounded conductors from normal source before connection is made to
alternate source and will positively open alternate source before connection is
made to normal source.
6. Design mechanical interlock so it cannot be readily disabled, disconnected,
improperly adjusted, removed or otherwise made inoperative.
7. Switch shall have provisions for visual inspection of switch blades and contacts.
8. Silver surface main contacts and protect by arcing contacts.
9. Make all contacts and coils readily accessible for replacement from front of panel
without major disassembly.
10. Provide red and green indicating lights with fuses, identification nameplates, and
test switch on front to simulate normal power failure at switch.
11. Rate each individual switch as indicated.
12. Provide written approval from the Saudi Consolidated Electric Company (SEC)
Ensure that there can be no parallel operation between SEC power and power for
emergency generator.
13. Provide engine starting contacts and all other auxiliary contacts and accessory
devices for functions to be performed.
14. Provide time delay on engine start, field adjustable from 0 to 10 SEC., by SEC,
and factory set at 4 SEC., to avoid unnecessary starting caused by short time
outages.
15. Provide time delay on retransfer to normal, field adjustable from 2 to 30 minutes,
by minute, and factory set to avoid erratic operation caused by short time
reestablishment of normal source.
B. Operation of Automatic Transfer Switch
Switch shall be arranged to start the generator automatically if normal source voltage
falls below 70% of nominal Provide an adjustable time delay of 0 to five (5) minutes on
engine shutdown in the switch These time delays shall operate only after retransfer to
normal Include a Voltmeter mounted in the trim of switch, wired across two of the
generator phases Sensing relays shall operate without contact chatter or false response
when voltage is slowly varied to dropout and pickup levels Four auxiliary contacts shall
be provided: Two for switch position indicating use, mounted on same shafts with main
contacts; two auxiliary contacts, one normally open and one normally closed, shall
operate after completion of the 3 second override delay All auxiliary contacts shall have
10 ampere minimum continuos contact rating.

PART - 3 EXECUTION

3.01 INSTALLATION
1. The Automatic Transfer Switches shall be free standing type and located as
shown on drawings.
2. Connect as indicated in one line diagram.

3.02 START-UP INSTRUCTIONS

On completion of the installation, the initial start-up shall be performed by a factory
trained service representative together with the engine suppliers representative Service
representative shall demonstrate and test the ability of the engine control, automatic
transfer switch, and handover a list of manuals, operating instructions, wiring diagrams
for all equipments.
