For this module, the goal was to create products, while using sustainable fabrics and ways for
IMILOA Collective. My team’s, GLISME, concept was to create an outfit that would be both
suitable for streetwear and beachwear using scrap materials that we had at home.
The sourcing of materials was quite easy. Each and every one of us took most of the scrap fabric
or old clothes that they had at home to use for the project. Doing this, provided us with a
variety of fabric and colours. Since our team did not have a source of inspiration, we did not
have a fully set colour palette in the beginning. But when sourcing our fabric, and after hearing
the feedback of Priya, the owner of IMILOA Collective, we decided to match our outfit to the
different shade of blues and white.
After the sourcing, the next step was to design our products. This step was quite easy, as each
of us designed an outfit that would fit our style direction, and after a client’s meeting we
merged our idea together to come to the final outfit and matching accessories. After designing,
the next time was the sampling. For this step, each team member was able to experiment for
each proposed pieces. We did about 10 or more samples, based on the correction that the
clients gave us.
Finally, the time to assemble the final outfit came. When assembling the outfit, each of us
assembled a part and we all contributed in assembling the bag as it was the largest piece.
Overall, the assembling of the outfit was very easy and the end result is quite good. It may not
be perfect but for a first attempt it is an excellent work.
In terms of the distribution of roles, I think that the work was divided quite well. Even if some of
us did less practical work, there was some of us that were doing more theory work. Doing it
that was balanced a bit the work. I was doing more of the theory part, such as presenting the
work during the classes, placing them on powerpoint, sending most of the mail to the client and
noting the team meeting minutes. But, I did participate in making the final outfit, as I was doing
the crochet bikini and helped for the bag.
The communication, in between our group was very good. Everyone participated in the main
discussions and gave their point of view and ideas. Also, since we all get well together, there
were no conflict in our group which made the project more enjoyable and that is one of the
main reason our end product turned out quite good.
On the overall, we did not encounter a lot of issues, but the main issue that we encounter was
that, it was a little hard to have of exact amount of fabric since we were using our old clothes or
scrap fabric.
To conclude, we were able to work well in team as our group works well together.
