INTRODUCTION

A. BRIEF BACKGROUND

The COVID-19 pandemic has greatly affected our daily lives, specially to
students whose learning was temporarily stop for the teachers who needs
to adjust on teaching in different ways. The Department of Education
promoted blended learning via television, modules, online classes, and
face-to-face classes in order to continue the learning of every student. Two
years after the COVID-19 pandemic occur face-to-face classes was back on
track.

B. OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY

1. What are the problems teachers and students face using blended
learning?

2. Can we use blended learning permanently?

3. What modal do students prefer?

C. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

In this study, the effect of blended learning on students and teachers

who are experiencing it in the present time due to the return of COVID-
19 was examined. On the other hand, it helps students to increase their
level of knowledge and interest in learning a new way of teaching, and it
also helps them know what approach they should do at their own pace.
In addition, teachers serve as a guide for them to manage student
adjustments in terms of learning process. It was temporary, the
government and the Department of Education is working together to
restore the traditional learning process and improve the study again
without avoiding diseases and will no longer use technology.
D. LITERATURE REVIEW

Blended Learning also known as technology-mediated instruction,

mixed mode of learning, it is an approach to education that government
provided during the pandemic. It combines online educational materials
and opportunities for interaction even if you are not on the same space
by using different technology or modular learning. As we all know,
students had an option if they want to use internet with online learning
or modular using printed materials that was also provided by the
government. We use to have that kind of learning for almost 3years until
the government allow us to go outside when the number of covid
patients decreases gradually. With this kind of learning we are able to
study even without the presence of the teacher and without the
classroom. Using blended learning has a positive and a negative effect
on different students. For the positive side we are able to be more
independent specially those who choose modular learning, as we do not
have aby teachers to remind us to understand the topic. Negative side, it
shows that the Philippines experience learning deprivation rate as some
of the students chose to stop than to have a blended learning. Specially
those students a remote area and does not have access to internet, and
if they choose to have modular learning there are students who have
illiterate parents that also do not know what to teach to their children.
Research says that 70% of a 10years old children does not know how to
read a simple text due to prolonged school closure. It also becomes so
hard for the government specially to the teachers to reach out to each
and every student who does not have an accessible location to use
blended learning. Despite the added challenges, it is imperative continue
education.
And now that we are already doing face-to-face learning it gives us a
chance to enhance what we learn using blended learning, and we also
got a chance to mingle with our friend again and experience freedom to
go wherever we want. Education is one of the treasure our parents can
give us, it has no value. Cheryl Costello from Education Week Teacher
once said, “The value in blended learning comes from the ability to
create student centered lessons that give students opportunity to
practice skills they need to develop at their own pace.

experienced problem during blended learning does blended learning help you improve
do you prefer face-toface classes
The clustered column shows that eight (8) students experienced having
problem or difficulties during blended learning. Mae, not her real name, says
that she had problem communicating with her adviser because she does not
have gadget to use, while the other seven (7) says they do not have the ability
to connect to the internet. Six (6) participants said they did not experience any
problems during blended learning. The other six (6) said there is not much
problem during blended learning.

Eleven (11) out of twenty (20) G10 student participants said blended
learning helped them improve their knowledge, skills, and some became
independent. While the nine (9) other students said it’s not helpful, because
they did not have a teacher to guide them and it gives them a hard time
answering and learning every lesson.

On the other hand, sixteen (16) G10 students prefer face-to-face classes.
Grace, not her real name, said it was much better than learning alone at house,
there is the teachers to teach and guide, classmates and friends that she can
ask for help, and of course the high school life experience that every teenager
is looking forward to. Four (4) do not prefer face-to-face classes because
learning at home is convenient, I can manage my own time, do other things
instead of being at school, as long as I understand the lesson, I prefer modular
than face-to-face classes, says Jay, not his real name.

it affects my way of teaching it has impact on my health

i encountered problems while teaching

Based on the bar graph four (4) teachers of Teresa National High School says
that blended learning affects their way of teaching. It does affect my way of
teaching, but not all the time because I can adjust easily, says Ma’am Mary
Ann. All four (4) of the teachers we surveyed says they encountered problems
specially when communicating to their students who do not have internet
access. Meanwhile, three (3) teacher participant says blended learning has
impact to their health, they said they are stress adjusting with the new set up.
While Mr. Pantaleon says that blended learning did not affect his health in
anyway.

CONCLUSION
A. Based on the finding the following conclusions are given.
1. The results shows that face-to-face classes is the most prefer modal
by the students, blended learning caused a lot of problems, both to
students and teachers.
2. It is shown that the implementation of blended learning was still
helpful, if it was not implemented by the time, a lot of time will be
wasted.
3. Face-to-face is basically better than blended learning, students get to
learn better inside the school and teachers can teach and guide us
better, there will be no interruptions such as: bad internet connection
and having difficulties on using the gadgets.

B. Based on the conclusion the following recommendations are given.

1. According to the study about the affects of blended learning, it can

have a negative effect on the participants especially their reasons are the same
and compatible.

2. A more in-depth study is recommended to find out the negative

implications it causes to the participants, and the development of things that
can be done to not be a hindrance to learning and teaching. Beside this;
3. The researcher can also include students who stop studying due to
blended learning.
