Writing Task 1 Map
The maps describe a seaside village before and after some developments from 1995 until now.
Overall, it can be seen that most green-land zones in this area have become smaller in size and
more amenities have been constructed.
Looking at the northeast of the area, a forest park and a farmland have been replaced by golf
and tennis areas. In addition, a road in the northwest has been constructed and more houses
have been built along the main road that runs from the west to the beach area.
In the southwest, a series of shops and fish markets have been knocked down to make way
for restaurants and apartments by the side of the beach. The fishing port at the sea has also
been demolished. In the southeast, the hotel and the café remain the same while a car park has
been erected to the right of the hotel.

Single map:
Below is a map of the city of Brandfield. City planners have decided to build a new shopping
mall for the area, and two sites, S1 and S2 have been proposed.
Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons
where relevant.
The map illutrates two possible locations for the construction of a new super market for the
town of Garlsdon.
Overall, it is clear that the first site is in the countryside, while the second location is roughly in
the middle of the town centre. The first potential location (S1) is outside the town itself, and is
12km to the south-east of Hindon.
There site is also close to the main roads and the railway. If the supermarket is built there, this
would be easy for shoppers from both Hindon and Garlsdon who could travel either by car or
train.
In contrast, the second suggested location, S2, is right in the town centre and to the north of
the southern industrial zone. The distances form this site to Cransdon and Bransdon are 25km
and 16km respectively. If the supermarket is constructed there, it could be accessed by road or
rail from the surrounding towns. However, because the central area is a no-traffic zone, cars
would be unable to park and access would be difficult.
