C. Lesson Proper
Media literacy, information literacy, and technology literacy are combined
together as Media and Information Literacy (MIL). Since media and information is
taking up more and more of our time, it’s important that we understand its influence on
everything we do and how we can knowledgeably and skillfully navigate our way
through them.

Key Concepts of MIL


1. All media messages are constructed.

2. Audiences negotiate meaning

3. Media messages have commercial implications.

4. Media messages have social and political implications

5. Each medium has a unique aesthetic form.

Benefits of Media and Information Literacy


1. It teaches you how to verify information and acknowledge others’ perspectives.

2. It encourages audiences to think critically.

3. It promotes responsible information sharing and dissemination.

4. It helps you identify and understand the media’s role in our culture.

5. It teaches you to think and decide objectively, factually, and reasonably.

6. It encourages you to actively participate in public affairs as a citizen.

Disaster Scenario
As earlier discussed, Information Literacy involves being able to access,
manage, and share information in a knowledgeable and responsible manner. This is a
test on how well you can do such task. Read and analyze the situation below.

GOOGLE- is an internet search engine. It uses a proprietary algorithm that's designed to retrieve
and order search results to provide the most relevant and dependable sources of data possible.

YOUTUBE- is a free video sharing website that makes it easy to watch online videos.


You can even create and upload your own videos to share with others. Originally
created in 2005, YouTube is now one of the most popular sites on the Web, with
visitors watching around 6 billion hours of video every month.

GOOGLE DRIVE- is a free cloud-based storage service that enables users to store and access files online. The
service syncs stored documents, photos and more across all of the user's devices, including mobile devices, tablets
and PCs.
