Statement of Purpose

Introduction
It's my pleasure to introduce myself as Touhidun Nahar, a graduate of B.Pharm from
Southeast University, one of the best and most prestigious universities in Bangladesh. I was
born on 8th January 1996. I am the daughter of Md. Fazlul Haque and Mrs.Sufia Begum &
my spouse is Md. Mahfuzur Rahman. I am a Bangladeshi citizen by birth. It’s been many
years since I was fond of studying abroad, wanted to finish my graduation but for many
reasons I couldn't do so. After getting married my husband told me that he will support me
in making my dream come true, as he knows the value of education. I would like to pursue
my Master’s degree in “Good Manufacturing Practice” from the University of Technology
Sydney, Australia. I am very keen to expand my skills and now want to learn about
industrial standards, broaden my perspectives and explore new opportunities in the field of
health sector.

Academic Background & other achievements

I have completed my S.S.C in 2011 at Bangladesh Rice Research Institute ( Brri) High
School with a GPA of 5.00 on a scale of 5, my H.S.C in 2013 from Gazipur Govt. Mohila
College with a GPA of 4.70 on 5 scale and my Bachelor of Pharmacy from Southeast
University with CGPA of 3.93 on 4 point scale. It was 4 year’s course and every year there
were 2 semesters. It started from January 2015 and ended in December 2018. Throughout
my Bachelor of Pharmacy, I received a tuition fee waiver in all semesters to maintain my
CGPA 3.90 or above and I also have a publication regarding “Investigation on in vitro
antioxidant and in vivo neurobehavioral effects of Clerodendrum indicum leef extract”. I
was not only involved in my academic career but also performed some extracurricular
activities including attending a conference and scientific poster presentation at University of
Chittagong, organized by Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and I was
also a member of pharmacy club of Southeast University. Now, I want to earn a master's
degree in good manufacturing practice. I will be very grateful if your university waives my
tuition fees, that will motivate me to keep my CGPA in the top tier. To improve my English
proficiency, I took IELTS and got a Band score of 6.5 (Listening 7.0, Reading 7.0, Writing
6.0 & Speaking 6.5).

Family Background
My family is from Bangladesh. It consists of me, my mother and my two siblings and I am
the youngest one. My mother, Mrs. Sufia Begum is a housewife & owner of 03 storied
building with 4 flats, 4 shops, while my father Md. Fazlul Haque, was a scientific officer in
Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (Brri) and died in 2021. My two siblings are also
working as government employees at the same organization. My spouse Md. Mahfuzur
Rahman, Senior Product Associate, Healthcare Pharmaceuticals Ltd. My comprehension of
the significance of dreams in life and the pointlessness of existing without them is improved
as a result of these insights. I have always believed that anyone who is enthusiastic and
committed to attaining their goals can accomplish anything, and my family and mentors
have always provided me with the support and inspiration that I've needed throughout my
life. They have consistently encouraged me to pursue my career in my chosen field.

Gap explanation
From 2013 to 2014, there was a one-year gap between the preparation time for admission to
the public university and the medical institution, but we have no proof of documents on
hand and lost all application documents and admit cards. I have completed all my semesters
and thesis in 2018 but got my certificate on 26th June 2019. Then I started looking for a job
and finally received an opportunity in Trade Queue International as a product executive.

Why I have chosen this course

The Master of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) is a degree program that focuses on the
principles and practices of manufacturing in the pharmaceutical and biotech industries. The
program is designed to provide me with a thorough understanding of GMP regulations and
guidelines as well as the knowledge and skills needed to implement and maintain GMP
compliance in a manufacturing facility. This is important because GMP ensures that the
products produced are safe and of high quality and that the manufacturing process is
consistent and controlled to minimize the risk of errors. Graduates of GMP programs like me
may be employed in a variety of roles within the pharmaceutical, API and biotech industries
including quality control, quality assurance, supply chain and regulatory compliance.

Similar Program in my country

No Bangladeshi universities offer opportunities to study in GMP as a major subject but in
graduation this was included just as a part of a course like quality assurance. However, this
subject is very important because as I mentioned earlier, there are a lot of pharmaceuticals,
API and biotech industries in Bangladesh where GMP is needed to abort manufacturing
errors of the product. For example, in Penicillin antibiotic if GMP is not maintained then
cross-contamination occurred, as a result beta lactum ring breaks and the antibiotic doesn’t
work. So it’s really very important to maintain proper GMP in these industries. That’s why I
want to pursue my master’s degree in this subject in Australia.

Why I do not choose Bangladesh

I thought of other important factors, such as the education system, the rankings of the
universities, the places available for the desired programs and the careers after graduation. I
have compared these between my country and the other countries. According to the 2017
Global Competitiveness Report, Bangladesh’s education system is ranked 84th out of 138
countries, while the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Australia top the list. In
terms of university rankings, most of the universities ranked below 500 on the QS World
University Rankings 2021 are from the US, Australia, UK and other countries, while there
are no universities in Bangladesh only ranked below 500, relatively low learning. The
course structure of Bangladeshi universities is very poor compared to foreign universities.
The delay of class is another reason why I don’t want to continue my studies in this country.
One of the most important reasons behind this is the lack of practical knowledge. The
studies in my country are mainly based on theory but in the field of employment, practical
knowledge is essential. That’s why students in our country are still unemployed after
finishing their studies. Since University of Technology Sydney provides not only theoretical
knowledge but also practical knowledge to students, I would like to pursue my studies at
this university. Ultimately, overseas graduates are also highly regarded. After thinking
deeply about all these factors, I felt it would be better if I applied to study abroad than to
study in my country.

Country Comparison
My decision over how to proceed with my studies was not simple. After conducting
extensive research on well-known study abroad destinations, I determined that travelling to
Australia would present a number of enticing opportunities.
I was searching the websites of numerous colleges and universities in the United States, the
United Kingdom and Canada to pursue my master’s degree. The greatest Australian
institutions demand PTE and IELTS scores for entrance; without these, I won't even be
considered. The majority of educational institutions in USA demand applicants to take the
GRE or GMAT in addition to the IELTS or TOEFL, which requires additional time.
According to my research, the exam requires anywhere from six to eight months of
preparation in addition to a stellar IELTS, GRE or GMAT score; unfortunately, this will
leave a huge gap on my resume. Therefore, the United States of America and Canada have
also slowed down the visa application procedure. It would appear that the expense of living
and schooling is substantially higher in the United Kingdom and the United States compared
to Australia. The climate in Canada is frequently adverse for me. A significant number of
students from all around the world come to Australia for educational purposes every year. It
makes them the third highest in the world to have the greatest number of international
students “Teaching Excellence Award” is among the world’s best institutions for teaching
excellence. The University of Technology Sydney encourages practical learning along with
research activities which will result in one’s profound development to gather experience and
knowledge. So, Australia has been my first choice for higher studies.

Why I Choose Australia

Deciding which country to go for my master’s degree was a bit difficult. I tried to understand
the pros and cons of studying abroad by looking at various sites. I initially noticed that many
countries around the world offer top-notch education, including Canada, the UK, Australia
and the US. Then I started comparing countries based on weather, tuition fees, living
standards, education systems, job opportunities and more. I immediately knew that studying
in Australia would be the best option for me. Unlike Bangladesh’s homogeneous student
body, Australia has a diverse international student body to network with people from all over
the world and share knowledge and learn from different perspectives on current world events
that compliment the overall experience. Australia is therefore an ideal place to study as it has
some of the best universities in the world and thousands of students receive quality education.
The main reasons are many. First of all, I find that Australia offers the best education with
flexible tuition compared to many other countries in the world. The conversion rate of USD
or British pound is much higher than AUD. Australia is also closer to my home country than
Canada or the USA; therefore it is more attractive because the time and cost of visiting my
family will be more realistically and financially feasible. Second, Australia is a heaven for
international students because of the quality assurance of education. A significant number of
Australian universities have higher Qs World Rankings while maintaining costs and fees.
Clearly, Australia has dominated academic excellence over the years. Therefore, Australian
universities are of paramount importance to international students, unlike some other
countries. Third, most parts of Australia have a favourable climate, which is an added
advantage for all students. Australia’s climate remains moderately warm year-round.
Basically, Australia’s weather or climate is more suitable for South Asian students and it
seems that the country is much safer and offers high security measures.
Finally, in addition to all other advantages, the country has a strong and diverse international
community. I really want to participate in a multicultural society. Australia is known for
adopting advanced technology faster than many other countries. Thanks to its culture,
education system and quality of life. All of the above issue made me think about pursuing a
master’s degree in Australia.

Accommodation
I will arrange my accommodation near to my campus and also take the help of websites

Why I Choose University of Technology Sydney

Undoubtedly, the University of Technology Sydney is at the top of my list as it has the most
impeccable reputation in Australia, being ranked 9th in Australia and 137th in the world.
The university also holds one of the top graduate employability rankings by the QS World
University Rankings 2023. It is ranked among the top 1% of universities in the world, which
makes it outstanding teaching and research excellence as well as high employability.
Research has shown that University of Technology Sydney graduates find full time jobs
sooner and also start with higher salaries. In addition to the core modules, this university
will also give me the autonomy to expand my scope of study by taking elective courses
while also ensuring that I’m on the right track in professionalism- a concept that most UK
based universities lack. Also this university is Australia’s leading research university with
the largest number of research students. I looked at the websites of several Australian
universities' in different regions. Despite being vibrant and with great research
opportunities, these universities are less flexible than what UTS offers. Some of them may
have age restrictions or may not have the degree as I am looking for. Also, some other
universities did not meet some criteria related to academic results and IELTS requirements.
After considering everything, I have put together a shortlist of universities with similar
offers to the University of Technology Sydney. In addition to the University of Technology
Sydney, I also looked at the University of Adelaide, Macquarie University, Western Sydney
University, University of Wollongong and University of Tasmania etc. according to the
subject and tuition fees. Next, I removed all of them one by one, except for the University of
Technology Sydney. The standard of living in Sydney also appears to be high due to social
safety and security measures. So, I believe this is the best option for me to gain a lot of
knowledge.

My Future Career Plan and Remuneration Projection

In Bangladesh, there are numerous pharmaceutical and Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients
(API) companies, including Square Pharmaceuticals Ltd. Beximco Pharmaceuticals Limited
, Incepta Pharmaceuticals Ltd. Healthcare Pharmaceuticals Ltd. and Renata Limited which
are among the most reputable. I can work there as a product manager or as supply chain
manager in reputable API firms such as Truchem Bangladesh, Pharma IMEX Ltd. or
PHARMARAW Bangladesh. I expect the income range to be between BDT 150,000.00
(AUD $2000) to BDT 200,000 (AUD $2676), including various benefits such as a car and
overseas training. I may also choose teaching as a profession in future when GMP will
include as a major subject in the universities. After completing the Master's of GMP, I can
pursue a variety of career paths including production supervisor, quality assurance manager,
documentation manager, regulatory affairs manager etc.

Reason for Coming Back to Bangladesh

As I mentioned earlier, I am married and the only daughter of my family. So they have high
expectations for my career path. Also my family encouraged me to attend university in
Australia, which would bring fame to my family and country. So far, my home town
Bangladesh has provided me with a great education. Now is the time for me to give my
country as much as I can. I want to devote myself to improving my education and carrying
out my education for the greater good of the country and society. My parents also invested a
lot in my education and I wanted to come back home and take care of their lives and health.
I really hope that I will be allowed to give my skills and start the path to pursue future goals
for myself and my country. I wish I could come back soon, equipped with skills and
advanced degrees from the University of Technology Sydney (UTS).

I also have a close relationship with my family members, cousins and friends in Bangladesh.
Therefore, I can't not live in another country for a long time while away from my family.
After my father’s death, my mother has become alone and depended on me because she is
very attached to me. In addition, I am also an emotional person, so living abroad for a long
time and away from family will negatively affect my mental health. As my husband will go
with me and he is the eldest son and I am the eldest daughter-in-law of his family, we have
enough responsibilities for the family and we have to look after the family members. On the
other hand, I have lots of property in Bangladesh. So I have to come here to look after my
properties and use them sincerely. As a direct result of this, it is necessary for me to travel
back to Bangladesh.

Sponsorship

My mother will pay all of my financial obligations as well as my husband. She has BDT
6,000,000.00 in Fixed Deposit, which is approximately AUD $80,282.00. Also, she gets rent
from building & shops. In the village we have 1.5 bigha of land.

Conclusion
I strongly believe that studying in Australia will be a great investment for my future. The
kind of experience and knowledge I gain here will be a direct catalyst in developing my
skills and an Australian qualification will ensure my successful future in Bangladesh. I am
well aware of the level of dedication, tenacity and determination that is required for the
degree. I have a sincere desire to be accepted to the University of Technology Sydney
because I believe I have the skills and motivation necessary to successfully pursue a
graduate degree while also making a contribution to the research that is being done there.
This class piques my interest because I believe it will assist me in achieving my goals. The
variety of available classes and the impressive track record of previous students swayed my
decision to enrol at your educational institute. In the event that you decide to accept my
application, please know that I would be extremely grateful and excited to learn from GMP
at your institution and once I've finished, I'll put what I've learned to good use, both for my
own professional development and for the advancement of my country, Bangladesh.
Thanks & Regards
Touhidun Nahar
