A college admission application letter is written by a student who would like to enroll
in an academic institution. This serves as a cover letter for all the other college admission
documents. A college admission application letter follows a standard letter format and highlights
your academic qualifications, accomplishments, and reasons for applying in that university.

Dear Ma’am:
Good day!
I am Herman V. Sales, a senior high school graduate of Makabebe National High School. After
careful consideration, I have chosen to apply at Iloilo City State University because the College
of Education in this prestigious institution offers the best education program in the whole region
for aspiring teachers, as reflected in your graduates’ teacher’s licensure exam results.
I have always wanted to be an educator because I consider learning and academics an utmost
priority. My transcript of records and the academic honors I received in my elementary and high
school years prove that I have the highest regard for education, and this will enable me to
contribute positively to the university. I believe that Iloilo City State University can help me make
my aspirations of becoming globally competitive in the field of education become a reality. At the
same time, I will also be of great impact to the school by sharing my talents and skills with
teachers and other students.
I am also active in various community projects. One which I am particularly proud of is the “It is
Story Time” community engagement activity. I helped organize this endeavor and its aim is to
give hope and joy to orphaned kids in our village, children who have no parents to tell them
bedtime stories. Because of this project, I learned how teaching can touch people’s lives in such
a profound way, and this experience inspired me to pursue a career in teaching.
Attached with this letter are the duly-filled application form and a recommendation letter from my
high school principal. I hope that you find my qualifications commendable enough to be given a
slot in this institution. I can be reached through the phone number I provided above.
Respectfully yours,
Herman V. Sales

Admission Director
I am a graduating student at Makabebe National High School. I want you to consider me for
admission at the Iloilo City State University for the education course. I learned from friends that
your school offers the best education program, so please do accept me.
Together with this letter is the application form I accomplished and the recommendation letter
from the high school principal. They are really impressed with my achievements. I hope you are
too. I am also attaching my transcript of records. Feel free to peruse it so that you will know how
excellent my academic performance was during my high school years. I am smart, eager to
learn, and very patient. I believe that these attributes will help bring me to the top of the class.
I was not involved in any extracurricular activities because I chose academics over them, but I
tend to get along with other people very well. I have not had any conflicts and
misunderstandings with anybody. Also, I have the highest respect for authority, and do not have
a bad record at my previous school.
I am hoping for a positive response from you. Thank you very much.
Respectfully yours,

Exercise 1.
1.Does the resumѐ follow the correct format? Why or why not? Justify your answer by stating
three parts of the letter that follow or do not follow the correct format.
POSSIBLE ANSWER: Yes, the resumѐ follows the correct format. The “Education”, “Work
Experience”, and “Seminars and Lectures Attended” are all in the proper places.
2. Does the resumѐ project a professional tone? If yes, give two examples which use formal
language. If no, give two examples which use informal language
POSSIBLE ANSWER: Yes, the resumѐ projects a professional tone. The writer uses formal and
technical language in relating his work experience and most things included in the resumѐ are
job-related.
3. Does the resumѐ indicate what job position the writer is applying for? Explain why or why not
POSSIBLE ANSWER: No, the resumѐ does not indicate what job position the writer is applying
for. This should be included in the opening statement, but the resumѐ does not have one.
POSSIBLE ANSWER: Yes, the resumѐ includes unnecessary contents like the elementary and
high school years of the applicant, his personal information (his birthday, his passion for going to
the movies, and being a hopeless romantic), his job as a cashier, and the seminar on depression
that he attended.
POSSIBLE ANSWER: Summary of qualifications, key skills and strengths, and references are
missing from the resumѐ.
