Motif: Classic Vintage Debut Party
Theme: Take a step back in time and make it a retro themed party or retro birthday
party. The 60s and 70s were decades dedicated to peace and love, disco
dancing, crazy clothing, and groovy music, which make it an ideal theme for
your next party.

PURPOSE OF THE EVENT

It is regularly observed Philippine tradition to womanhood, many young girls dream of
having their debut party on their 18th birthday. It is a coming-of-age ceremony in the Philippines
where the age of maturity is 18. The Quinceanera, a Latin-American tradition, is thought to have
inspired the Philippine Debut. It also represents a girl’s passage from childhood to womanhood.
A traditional Quinceanera celebration includes a big entrance of the debutante, dancing,
a candle ceremony, a toast, cake cutting, and other event-related customs. The debutante wore
an unique gown for the occasion, and her guests are required to dress appropriately as well.
Similar rites are observed during the Philippine Debut, with some modifications to maintain the
event more in line with Filipino custom. The 18 members of the entourage, the 18 roses dance,
and the 18 candles are all part of a typical Philippine debut party. The 18 treasures and 18 shots
are among the most recent additions.
