WHAT MAKES A HOME?
People most commonly live in
apartments or houses. One’s home usually consists of four primary rooms: the bedroom, the bathroom, the living room, and the kitchen. Larger apartments may also have a dining room as well as a terrace, while houses have a front yard and/or a backyard. The bedroom is usually reserved for sleeping so it holds a bed and possibly a nightstand. There may also be a closet there, though some people keep their closets in the hall. Upper-middle-class families may even have a TV in one of the bedrooms, most commonly the master bedroom, but some may even have TVs in children’s rooms or guest rooms. For some people, a bedroom can also act as a study. The bathroom always has a toilet and a sink. It has a shower tub or a bathtub depending on the space. A lot of people have cabinet mirrors above their sinks usually reserved for storing medications and a first aid kit. If the bathroom’s spacious enough it may even hold a washing machine, maybe even a dryer with it. The living room can serve many purposes. In smaller living spaces it can double up as a kitchen and a dining room, or even a bedroom. In an average home, it is used as a place to watch television, entertain guests, or just spend time relaxing alone or with family. It usually has a couch, maybe an armchair or two, a TV set, and a bookshelf. The kitchen has either a stove or a hot plate and of course a fridge. There’s also counter space for meal making. For a lot of people, the kitchen doubles up as a dining room as well. -Do you live in a house or an apartment? -What rooms do you have?
