LEARNING EPISODE 1
The School Environment
The display board or what we more commonly refer to as bulletin board, is one of the
most readily available and versatile learning resources.
To achieve the Intended Learning Outcomes, work your way through these steps:
1. Examine for bulletin board displays. Include samples of those found at the entrance,
lobby, hallway and classrooms
2. Pick one and evaluate the display.
3. Propose enhancements to make the display more effective.
OBSERVE
As you look around and examine board displays, use the observation guide and forms provided
for you to document your observations.
1. Go around the school and examine the board displays. How many board displays do
you see?
2. Where are the display boards found? Are they in places where target viewers can see
them?
Some board displays can be found near the faculty room, guidance office, clinic, principal
office, and inside and outside of student rooms, while others can be found near the side of the
guards table, canteen, stairway, and outdoor or garden of the school, and they are in places where
target viewers can see them.
1 | Episode 1.2
1. What are the displays about? What key messages do they convey? What images and
colors do you see? How are the pieces of information and images arranged?
Some displays are about the earthquake preparedness guide, while others are about officers,
class schedules, student motivation, announcement, a map of the Mabini Colleges, and an
organizational chart. The key messages do they convey is were about raising awareness and
receiving updates on school announcements and activities. I saw several images in board displays,
including school activities, suicide prevention month, unity, earthquake preparedness guide,
images of school officers, and a map of Mabini colleges. And I saw a variety of colors in displays,
some of which were rainbow colour, while others were brown, black, and white. It's also well-
organized.
2. What materials were used in making the displays? Are borders used?
Images, coloured papers, Cartolina, tarpaulin, and a wooden frame are used to create the
display. And, yes, board is used.
3. Do you notice some errors? (misspelled words, grammar inconsistencies and the like).
No.
5. Think about what got your attention. Why did it get your attention?
One thing that drew my attention was the class schedule, which was posted outside each room
near the door. Because as an observer, it makes it easier for me to locate the teacher and his or her
subjects.

Based on the questions on the observation guide, write your observation report:
Observation Report
Many board displays could be seen as I walked into the high school building. I saw
approximately 12 displays in various locations such as the faculty room, guidance office,
clinic, principal office, and inside and outside the students' room, as well as other displays on
the side of the guards table, canteen, stairway, and outdoor garden of school. When it comes
to the placement of these board displays, they are ideal because they are easily visible to
students and visitors.
It's great that Mabini Colleges' high school building uses board displays to easily
inform students about what they should know. These displays make it easier to spread
information because they draw students' attention to what is posted on the wall.
From among the board displays that you saw, pick the one that you got most interested in.
evaluate it using the evaluation form below.

My Proposed Board Display
1. Name at least five skills that a teacher should have to be able to come up with
effective board displays. Elaborate on why each skill is needed.
7 | Episode 1.2
Critical Thinking skills- A teacher must analyze, evaluate and reflect on the
concept about the information to be posted.
Excellent grammar skills- A teacher should always proof read everything that
need to be posted to avoid grammatical errors.
2. Which of the skills you named in #1 do you already have? Recall your past
experiences in making board displays. How do you practice these skills?
The skills that I already have among the mentioned skills on numbe r 1is organizational
skills because in my previous experience in making displays I arrange properly the
information and images that could not overlapping and the viewers can see them
properly.
3. Which skills do you still need to develop? What concrete steps will you take on
how you can improve on or acquire these skills.
The skills that I still need to develop more are excellent grammar skills and creativity. I
can improve these skills through watching and reading about grammar and also I can
improve creativity by searching for various designs or lay-out.
