A. Read the following explanation carefully

GRAMMAR RULE: SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE


Simple present tense is used to express habitual or general truths.
Examples:
 He walks to school.
 The sun rises in the east.

Verb forms in simple present tense


1. For the personal pronouns ‘he’, ‘she’, and ‘it’, we add ‘s’, ‘es’, and
‘ies’ to the original form of the verb.

 Add ‘S’ to the original verb.


Example:
 The moon shines at night (shine --- shines)
 She eats vegetables. (eat ----- eats)

 Add ‘IES’ to the original form of the verb when the verb end with
a ‘Y’
Example:
 She studies hard every night (study ----- studies)

 Add ‘ES’ to the original form of the verb when the verb ends with
‘ss’, ‘sh’, ‘ch’, ‘x’, or ‘o’
Examples:
 He discusses the assignment with his boss. (discuss –
discusses)

2. For the personal pronouns ‘I’, ‘You’, and, ‘They’, we use the original
form of the verbs
Examples:
 We drink orange juice every morning

B. Read the dialog below with a friend. Then, write the verbs that you
find in the form of simple present tense.

Andy: Do you walk to college?

Budi: Yes. What about you? Do you walk to work?

Andy: I do. But when I’m too lazy to walk, I usually take the bus.

Budi: Do you cook?

Andy: I do, only for breakfast. My husband picks me up from work and we
have our dinner outside.

Budi: What time do you finish your work?

Andy: At seven. I work for six hours.

present tense

GRAMMAR RULE: ADVERBS OF FREQUENCY

When we use simple present tense, we often use adverbs of frequency,


such as; always, often, sometimes, never, usually, and every. We use the
adverbs of frequency to talk about how frequently you do something or
something happens.
Examples:
 Sarah sometimes goes to library.
 Toni never read the book before he took the exam.
