RATIONALE:
The Municipality of Vincenzo Sagun recognizes the significance of the 71st ARAW Zamboanga
del Sur. This annual celebration is a testament to the Province's rich history and diverse culture, which
are sources of pride for the entire region. As a valuable part of the Province and an active participant in
the celebration, the Municipality seeks to contribute to the festivities to uphold the spirit of unity and
cultural pride.
The Megayon Festival, being the official festival of Zamboanga del Sur, holds great cultural and
historical importance. It symbolizes the unity and harmony among the three major settlers that
contributed to the founding of the Province, namely the Subanens, the Muslims, and the local settlers.
Joining the celebration is crucial for the Municipality. It represents an opportunity not only to celebrate
the Province's rich history and diverse culture but also to strengthen relationships with other
Municipalities and promote the unique culture of Vincenzo Sagun. Through active involvement, the
Municipality can foster a sense of community and mutual respect among different cultural groups in the
Province.
Participation in the various activities of the 71st ARAW ng Zamboanga del Sur, such as the
Search for Miss Zamboanga del Sur, the Search for Little Miss Zamboanga del Sur, the Power Dance and
Hip-Hop Sayaw sa Sur Competition, the Sports Tournaments, Zambo Superstar, Mural Painting Contest-
II, and Sectoral Day provide an excellent platform for the Municipality to promote its local talents,
beauty, and skills. These events foster a sense of pride and belonging among the residents and attract
visitors from other provinces and regions, boosting tourism and economic activity.
In order to ensure successful participation, adequate funds are necessary. The proposed support
funds will cover all the required expenses related to the Municipality's involvement in various events.
Therefore, allocating these funds is vital to facilitate a memorable and impactful representation of
Vincenzo Sagun in the 71st ARAW ng Zamboanga del Sur celebrations.
OBJECTIVES:
1. To provide funds for the Mural Painting Contest-II.
2. To promote and highlight the best tourist destination of our Municipality. Through the artistic
representations in the murals, the contest aims to attract tourists by showcasing the unique
attractions and experiences that our Municipality has to offer.
Project Description:
The “Mural Painting Contest-II” is a four-day event organized by the Provincial Government of
Zamboanga del Sur in celebration of the 71st Araw ng Zamboanga del Sur. The contest is set to take
place from September 12 to September 15, 2023, at the Provincial Government Complex, Dao, Pagadian
City.
Each Local Government Unit (LGU) in Zamboanga del Sur, including Vincenzo Sagun, is invited to
participate by sending one official contestant—preferably a painter or artist—to represent their LGU. The
murals created by these artists will depict the best tourist destinations of their respective localities,
thereby promoting the unique tourism packages of Zamboanga del Sur.
The murals will remain on display after the contest, serving as an enduring testament to the region's rich
tourism offerings. They will act as indirect advertisements, encouraging visitors to explore the variety of
experiences that Zamboanga del Sur has to offer.
To support the contestants, the LGU will provide three personnel to assist the representative
painter/artist. These personnel will aid in various logistical tasks, ensuring that the painter/artist can focus
on their creative process. The LGUs will also cover the travel expenses of these individuals, underlining
their commitment to the successful realization of this project.
Overall, the “Mural Painting Contest-II” is an innovative initiative that combines art and tourism
promotion, contributing to the economic and cultural vitality of Zamboanga del Sur.
