Research is a systematic and organized process of inquiry that aims to discover new
knowledge, enhance understanding, or solve problems. It involves the collection, analysis,
and interpretation of data to answer specific questions or test hypotheses. Research can be
conducted in various fields, including science, social science, the humanities, and more. The
ultimate goal of research is to contribute to the existing body of knowledge, advance
understanding, and often provide practical applications or solutions. It can take various
forms, including experimental studies, surveys, case studies, and theoretical inquiries,
depending on the nature of the research question and the field of study. The 5th Liyang
Conference in 2023 held in Indonesia, brought together professionals and experts to explore
creative approaches for transforming global health after the COVID-19 pandemic. The
COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound impact across the globe. It led to widespread
illness and loss of life, strained healthcare systems, and triggered economic disruptions with
job losses and industry setbacks. Education faced challenges with school closures, pushing
a rapid shift to remote learning. Social isolation increased, affecting mental health. The
pandemic accelerated digital transformation, highlighting the importance of technology in
various sectors. Global supply chains faced disruptions, and public health measures gained
prominence. Scientific collaboration facilitated rapid vaccine development. The pandemic
prompted a reevaluation of work culture, health systems, and the need for global
preparedness in the face of future challenges. Dr. Prof. apt. Umi Athiyah, MS, spoke
"Applying Case-Based Learning in the Post-Pandemic Era." The inclusion of case-based
learning in the post-pandemic period represents a transition in the educational paradigm.
This technique has proved its flexibility to distant learning, critical thinking encouragement,
interdisciplinary knowledge integration, emphasis on practical application, and adaptation of
varied educational situations.

Furthermore, this conference placed a strong emphasis on international

collaboration, acknowledging the interconnections revealed by the pandemic. The
conference highlighted the significance of technology in healthcare and the importance of
research and development. That leads to more efficient, precise, and patient-centered care.
This synergy plays a pivotal role in advancing the medical field and improving health
outcomes on a global scale. A key principle that emerged was the commitment to equity in
healthcare, ensuring that healthcare is accessible and affordable for everyone. Everybody
has the opportunity to lead a healthy life. It's not just about treating illnesses; it's also about
preventive care and promoting overall well-being. When healthcare is within reach for
everyone, it contributes to a healthier and more productive society. Additionally, the
conference emphasized the importance of being prepared and resilient in the face of future
health crises, with discussions focusing on the development of robust health systems and
improved surveillance. Preparedness and resilience minimize its impact and prevent its
recurrence. A well-prepared healthcare system can respond more effectively to emerging
threats, whether it's a new infectious disease or other health challenges. Investing in
research, developing robust public health infrastructure, and fostering international
collaboration are all crucial aspects of preparedness. It's not just about reacting in the
moment; it's about creating a foundation that can withstand and adapt to future challenges.
In addition, collaboration in healthcare promotes comprehensive, efficient, and innovative
approaches to patient care, research, and public health. It is a fundamental aspect of
delivering high-quality and patient-centered healthcare services.

The 5th Liyang Conference in 2023 brought together a diverse group of professionals
and experts in the field of research and innovation for global health transformation in the
post-pandemic era. The event served as a platform for discussing and exploring innovative
solutions to the global health challenges that emerged in the wake of the COVID-19
pandemic. This reflection paper aims to highlight some key takeaways from the conference.

One of the most striking aspects of the conference was the emphasis on the
importance of international collaboration and cooperation in addressing global health issues.
The COVID-19 pandemic demonstrated the interconnectedness of the world and the need
for a coordinated response to such crises. The conference discussions underscored the
significance of sharing knowledge, expertise, and resources across borders to effectively
combat future health challenges.

The role of technology and innovation in healthcare was another central theme of the
conference. The rapid development of vaccines and treatments for COVID-19 showcased
the potential of innovation to transform global health. Speakers and panellists at the
conference stressed the need for continued investment in research and development to
create cutting-edge solutions for emerging health threats. Additionally, discussions focused
on the importance of leveraging digital health technologies to improve healthcare delivery
and monitoring, making it more accessible and efficient.

Equity in healthcare was a recurrent topic throughout the conference. The pandemic
exposed deep disparities in healthcare access and outcomes, and many participants
emphasized the need for policies and initiatives that address these inequalities. A
commitment to ensuring that healthcare is accessible and affordable to all, regardless of
geographical location or socioeconomic status, emerged as a key principle for global health
transformation in the post-pandemic era.

The Liyang Conference also highlighted the importance of preparedness and

resilience in the face of future health crises. Participants recognized that pandemics and
other health emergencies are not isolated events but rather recurring challenges. Strategies
for building robust health systems, improving surveillance and early warning systems, and
ensuring a stable supply chain for medical resources were discussed as essential
components of a resilient global health infrastructure.

Prof. Dr. apt. Umi Athiyah, MS discussed about the “Implementation of Case-Based
Learning in The Post Pandemic Era. I have learned that the COVID-19 pandemic profoundly
disrupted the field of education, prompting a radical rethinking of teaching and learning
methodologies. In the wake of this crisis, educators and institutions have been tasked with
reshaping educational practices to meet the evolving needs of students. The implementation
of case-based learning in the post-pandemic era represents a paradigm shift in education. It
has proven its mettle in adapting to remote learning, fostering critical thinking, embracing
interdisciplinary knowledge, promoting practical application, and accommodating diverse
educational contexts.

I have learned about in “Education Regulation of Pharmacy in India” presented by Dr.

Deependra Singh that pharmacy education regulations in India are increasingly emphasizing
a patient-centric approach. Pharmacists are being trained not only in dispensing medications
but also in providing pharmaceutical care, counseling patients, and ensuring safe and
effective drug use. The regulation of pharmacy education in India has come a long way in
ensuring high standards, global recognition, and relevance to the ever-evolving field of
pharmaceutical sciences. It has provided opportunities for a diverse range of careers and is
gradually shifting towards a more patient-focused approach. However, there is always room
for improvement and adaptation to meet the changing needs of the healthcare sector and
society.

Moreover, I have learned that COVID-19 pandemic had a profound and far-reaching
impact on education worldwide. Teachers, students, and educational institutions
demonstrated resilience and adaptability in the face of unprecedented challenges. Many
educators found creative ways to engage students and provide support. Many educational
institutions adopted hybrid models that combine in-person and online learning to adapt to the
pandemic and provide more flexible education options.
