MEANING OF DIFFERENT

TYPES OF ESSAYS

ARGUMENTATIVE ESSAY
The argumentative essay is a genre of writing that requires the student to
investigate a topic; collect, generate, and evaluate evidence; and
establish a position on the topic in a concise manner.

PERSUASIVE ESSAY
Persuasive writing, also known as the argument essay, uses logic and
reason to show that one idea is more legitimate than another. It attempts
to persuade a reader to adopt a certain point of view or to take a
particular action. The argument must always use sound reasoning and
solid evidence by stating facts, giving logical reasons, using examples,
and quoting experts.

INFORMATIVE ESSAY
An informative essay educates your reader on a topic. They can have
one of several functions: to define a term, compare and contrast
something, analyze data, or provide a how-to. They do not, however,
present an opinion or try to persuade your reader.

NARRATIVE ESSAY
When writing a narrative essay, one might think of it as telling a story.
These essays are often anecdotal, experiential, and personal-allowing
students to express themselves in a creative and, quite often, moving
ways.
