Die Design Features
The following tutorial contains various features of the DieDesign application which were not covered within the
basic and the advanced tutorials.
Blank on Binder
Blank on Binder
Blank on Binder
The Blank on Binder operation enables the user to create a local blank or global blank (FEM) on 3D groups of
faces.
Note: The binder object may contain any type of faces but for best results it is recommended that the binder
object contains only smooth, planar and cylindrical faces.
Select the Die setup icon to enter the Progressive Die Design Wizard. The Progressive Die Setup
Wizard window is displayed
From the DieDesign guide, select the Forming Shape > Add option.
Click the binder part to add a copy of it as new forming shape, name it Blank on Binder and click OK.
We will now create the Binder faces. Before doing so we will remove the irrelevant faces.
Create a contour for the extension faces. Select the Faces Outer Boundary option and select the entire
faces by box.
First, you must select the binder object. Select the stitched object (of the extended faces), as follows:
Note: The system automatically selects the neighbouring faces and stops when it reaches a boundary which
is common to both the binder object and the faces to be blanked.
Exit.
Click OK.
Check the Create New Folder and Copy Master To Folder options and click OK.
Select the Skin option from the Guide. Select the upper face as indicated by the arrow in the picture below
(the group of faces belonging to the selected face will remain).
Copy the model UCS and Rotate it by Z Axis = 90. Select OK.
Select the Form CS icon from the guide. Select the UCS as indicated by the arrow.
We will now create the Binder face by performing the following steps:
4. Create a sweep face that will be later defined as the binder object.
Create another line (meaning, a lower line). Create a tangent constraint between this line and the
neighbouring edge.
Set a fix constraint to the point indicated by the arrow in the picture below:
Add a reference geometry. Select the two edges indicated by the arrows in the picture below:
We will now create an intersection curve. First we will create the intersection plane.
Remove all entities (using the Remove Geometry option) apart from the intersected curve.
Enter the Define Boundary optional step. Note that the system suggests a fixed boundary. Unselect it
Select OK
Select the Filter points. Select the four points as indicated by the arrows in the picture below:
Select OK.
There are some cases that it is required to unbend the sequence of cylindrical faces. The system automatically
identifies (and selects) all the faces containing the same radius and axes. If required the user can un-select
these faces manually.
Select the cylindrical face indicated by the arrow in the picture below:
It is possible to create nesting for a transfer die without performing strip geometry. The system adds a number of
empty instances according to the number of the defined stations, in predefined distances. This is described in
the following procedure.
You may exit the first step without selecting any forming shape or part. Exit.
The selection of the forming shape may assist you to determine the progression value.
