q2 Lesson Plan 23 1

The lesson plan aims to teach students about physical science by having them observe how matter changes. Students will use paint and salt on paper to see an ombre effect form as the salt absorbs the paint. The teacher will directly instruct students and role play the activity. Students will be engaged by choosing their own paint colors and the teacher will check understanding by observing their work. To conclude, students will write their name and discuss their favorite part of the science experiment. The lesson aligns with the California teaching standards and will assess if students understand how mass changes. Materials needed include paper, glue, salt, paint, and brushes.

Q2 Lesson Plan Project

Lesson Goals or Learning Targets (Word these as measurable student outcomes.)

Students will learn the basics of physical science.

Lesson Objectives or Success Criteria (Word these as student actions, use verbs.)

I will use my senses to see how matter changes.

CSTP Rationale (Describe the ways your lesson aligns with the six California Standards for the
Teaching Profession)

CSTP 1 Engaging and Supporting All Students in Learning

I will engage my students by engaging with their interests in color.

CSTP 2 Creating and Maintaining Effective Environments for Student Learning

I will communicate and be positive with the students.

CSTP 3 Understanding and Organizing Subject Matter for Student Learning

I will keep everything as tighty as I can and keep everything in place. As they learn how the
work is done, I will put myself in their shoes to understand where they are coming from.

CSTP 4 Planning Instruction and Designing Learning Experiences for All Students
I will get everything ready for the students and put everything in place before they get started.

CSTP 5 Assessing Students for Learning

I will analyze their progress as they work and ask to see if they understood.

CSTP 6 Developing as a Professional Educator

I will self-evaluate and see what I could've done better on my teaching for next time.

Lesson Plan Content (Written narrative paragraph about the lesson content.)

I will bring in sheets of paper with a leaf outline with salt. They will then be able to work with
paint of all colors to place on the salt. The salt will absorb the paint and will make a physical
reaction. The paint they choose to work with will blend and make an ombre effect.

Instructional Procedures

• Focusing Event (Describe how you will get students to focus attention on your teaching.)

I will get students to focus on my teaching by explaining the fun science experiment
we will be doing.

• Instructional Strategies (Click into that link for help describing all instructional methods you will
employ during the lesson. Remember, instructional strategies fall into one or more of the following
broad categories: DIRECT, INDIRECT, EXPERIENTIAL, INTERACTIVE, INDEPENDENT
STUDY)

I will be using direct instruction by explaining to them how it will work. I will later use
experiential instruction by role playing what they will be doing so they get a visual
example of the assignment.

• Student Participation (How will you engage students and get them on board to participate?)

I will let them choose any colors they want so that it encourages them to be creative.

• Formative Check (How will you check that all students are involved and engaged in the lesson?

I will look around at each paper and make sure they have something done.

• Closure (How will you end the lesson purposefully, with intentionality?)
I will close this lesson by having them write their name. After they all have their
name, I will ask them what part of the project was there favorite.

• Assessment (How will you assess those students achieved the lesson goals or learning
targets?)

I will assess those students who achieved the lesson goal by seeing that they
understood this science experiment and how mass changes.

Lesson Plan Materials (Include everything needed to successfully complete the lesson with
the full class. Remember to include all supplies, as well as technology, whiteboard space,
classroom space, etc.)
Orange sheet paper, white liquid glue, salt, water, paint, paint brushes, and a pencil.
