A Semi-detailed Lesson Plan for Grade 8

I. Learning Objectives
At the end of the class discussion, the students should be able to:

A. Analyze and interpret the main themes and literary elements of a modern
short story.
B. Evaluate the impact of the story on their own values and beliefs.
C. Develop writing skills to express critical insights and analyses through
essays and reflections.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Reading and Analyzing Modern Short Story

III. Procedure

A. Preliminary Activities

1. Greetings:
The teacher will greet the students and ask them to arrange the chairs, properly.

4. Review of the Past Lesson

5. Motivation

“CHARADES”
● The class will be grouped into Two (2) teams.
● Each team shall have One (1) representative.
● The host will pick a word secretly and it will only be shown to the
representatives.
● The representative must act the word out in order for her/his team to
guess the right answer.
● Each team will be given 1 minute to guess each word.
● The first group that will gain 3 points will be announced as the winner.
NOTE: Talking or any produced sound is not allowed.
The team that will violate the rule shall be disqualified.

6. Presentation of Lesson

1.1 Proceed to the next lesson which is “Reading and Analyzing Short Story”

1.2 Ask the learners what are their ideas about Modern Short Story

1.3 Introduce Modern Short Story

1.4 Discuss the Modern Short Story literary elements

7. Sharing of Lesson Objectives.

At the end of the class discussion, the students should be able to:

A. Analyze and interpret a modern short story's main themes and literary
elements.
B. Evaluate the impact of the story on their own values and beliefs.
C. Develop writing skills to express critical insights and analyses through
essays and reflections

B. During Discussion:

1. Lesson Proper

- Introduce the concept of modern short stories and provide examples to


illustrate the main themes and literary elements found in this genre.
- Use visual aids, such as charts or graphic organizers, to help students
visualize the elements and themes.
- Address the common misconception that modern short stories are less
significant or complex than longer works of literature.

2. Values Integration

● Lead a guided reflection session where students consider the values presented in
the short story.
● Ask students to think about how these values relate to their own lives and
experiences.
● Discuss the impact of the characters' choices on the story's overall message.

3. Application

● The teacher will divide the class into three groups


● Each group will do Story Analysis Challenges that require students to analyze
specific aspects of a short story. The task is identifying main elements of the
short story
● The group will present their task in the class

4. Generalization

Conclude the lesson with a quick closing activity. Ask students to share one new
insight they gained from analyzing and interpreting the modern short story.
Encourage them to reflect on how this analysis has deepened their
understanding of the story and its impact on their own values and beliefs.
