Chapter 1
INTRODUCTION
Pollution is a problem that has been plaguing the world even
back then, and it has been becoming gradually worse as time
passes by. But in this time that passed by, we have also found
many solutions to stop the pollution that has been
happening. We
have learned how to get rid of these toxic pollutants in our
atmosphere and our water, but there is still one wall we face.
Finding these pollutants can not only be difficult but also can
be
very harmful to us. This is because most pollutants are mainly
odorless and colorless, in addition to that they can be
poisonous
and have very bad effects to us if we possibly breathe them
in. As
of today some devices have been made to combat this issue
that
we face, but still we don’t reach the theoretical limitations of
our
ability of finding these pollutants.
This is why, the researchers thought of utilizing a device that
has been known to be able to detect harmful pollutants and
many
different gases. The device in question is the smoke detector,
smoke detectors are commonly used to detect house fires.
But, it
has also been known to be able to detect not only smoke, but
other pollutants as well as greenhouse gasses.
Because of this, the researchers made a smoke detector that
can detect these specific pollutants easily and also account
for the concentration of these pollutants in the air. A camera
was also
attached whenever it detected these pollutants and was also
built
to send a text to your whenever it detected excess pollutants
in
the air.
Related studies
Air pollution can cause a wide variety of health concerns like
lung problems and airborne diseases. And because of this,
(Almetwally, Bin-Jumah & Allam, 2020) researched this topic
and concluded that “polluted air is considered one of the
major factors leading to many diseases such as
cardiovascular and respiratory disease and lung cancer for
the people. Besides, air pollution adversely affects the
animals and deteriorates the plant environment”.
Additionally, Alahmad et al. (2023) conducted that:
Globally, more people die from cardiovascular disease than
any other cause. Climate change, through amplified
environmental exposures
, will promote and contribute to many noncommunicable
diseases
including cardiovascular disease.
Air pollution, too, is responsible for millions of deaths from
cardiovascular disease each year. Alahmad et al. (2023)
builds onto the statement of (Almetwally, Bin-Jumah &
Allam, 2020) that states that pollution can cause
environmental and health concerns. When talking about air
pollutants, we often talk about gasses like smoke, smog,
carbon dioxide, methane, etc., this is because these are the
most common air pollutants and are reproduced very easily.
Like smoke that can be produced from using common day-to-
day things mainly from things that use fossil fuels, like cars
and stoves. Additionally, carbon dioxide and other air
pollutants are also byproducts of the burning of these fossil
fuels. Moreover, some of these pollutants can also directly
poison you if you inhale, causing a big risk to human health

2020)
Chapter 3: Methodology
Research Design
In this study, the researchers opted for a qualitative
Research design, the reason for this is because this study
focuses on the accuracy and speed of the device. The gas
sensor in this device is responsible for detecting the
pollutants, and when sensor detects the pollutants the
researchers will measure the speed and accuracy of the
device to detect these pollutants.
