The musical instruments of South Asia and the Middle East are categorized as

that are stretched between fixed points (plucking, bowing, and strumming).

c. Idiophone – sound is primarily produced by striking with the use of sticks or


mallets, or other striking devices (striking).

d. Membranophone – sound is primarily produced by the use of bare hand


(palming), without striking devices.
